  1. The main reason that people are amused PB is because the only price for a DC 24 in P4 until mid December can be £180....£160 for the loco and £20 for the wheelsets. This is because until mid December only loyal customers can buy them and this is the price to them. Dave
  2. ...I've seen factory fitted mentioned somewhere Derek and I have no reason to suppose otherwise. My loco was OO originally so I needed to fit the SLW P4 wheelsets. The pictures are just to show potential customers different areas of the loco. Dave
  3. I'm sure that most modellers/collectors will be happy to pay £180 plus postage up to mid December and £203 after that time for a P4 RTR model of this calibre. I've carried out the 5min P4 conversion on mine this afternoon....the axles are 2mm dia. as per the Ultrascale conversion for the Bachmann 24 but the correct tyre rim thickness on the SLW version explains why their loco looks better in this area... ...scale tyre rim thicknesses give the edge to the SLW version over the Ultrascale (silver tyre).... Hope that lots of you have a SLW 24 under your tree this year More pictures & info on the Scalefour Society forum for those interested, under RTR P4 Dave
  4. Aft'noon all, A little festive tree dressing today... Getting the balance of the lights right first... ...nearly done...not too many decorations... ...international holiday flavours...fish from Sanibel island, Florida ...enamelled badges from The Rhine valley, Germany... ....black bears from Yellowstone National Park, U.S.... Dave
  5. ....just squint a bit Clive....it'll help make them look equal. Dave
  6. ....we're real men down here...we have special wellies for horizontal sheep Andy! Only needed a sail for the constitutional this morning. Not much boating on the Caldon through Cheddleton today. Tank traps on the new towpath cycleway....first cyclist along here in the dark will lose a leg as there are no signs and lights aren't compulsory. Feathered ones provided for Seasonal meal with friends tonight....Christmas tree to decorate first Enjoy what you do Dave
  7. ....we had a call from from one of the Ayrshire drivers asking if we'd seen his garden shed. He wasn't needed to work as coal being discharged was being blown horizontally across the landscape....none in the wagons. Dave
  8. Hi Mal, She has been out again today, this time with her Sheffield girlfriends, to Biggin Hall for lunch....she has even booked us in there for our 10th wedding anniversary meal on Christmas Eve and we're apparently taking Mum & Dad to Buxton Opera house for an Elvis tribute concert in Feb too. Good to see her on a high spot of the rollercoaster for the last two days. She is even buying clothes again now....something that she initially declared pointless after diagnosis. Best wishes for your treatments Dave
  9. ....funny feeling that it will shine a light through some of the lame excuses from the big manufacturers about production delays being out of their control too. If a guy on his own who hasn't released a model before can come up with what might yet be the most advanced & accurate 4mm loco....then their size, muscle power and presence obviously don't count for much. Dave Just a satisfied D5000 owner
  10. Mornin' all, All the best to any with ailments Black on orange start to the day in The Moorlands....temps near seasonal average and it was good to use the jacket just for warmth. Now music by Elle King.....Ex's & Oh's Should be going to the Manchester Exhibition on Sunday morning with 2 or 3 friends.....might see you there Feathered ones provided for....good to see Mr bullfinch 1st to the table this morning Enjoy what you do Dave
  11. .....one consideration about their construction is the height from which they were loaded with largish clasts of limestone. At Tunstead the impact during loading must have been considerable, therefore the robust construction served its purpose. Dave
  12. Don't get the thread locked guys....it has a lot of use for others. Please modify the wording above with some asterisks. Dave
  13. ....the way it works here Robert is for the council to respond if you shout loudly enough. We have neighbours who ring them continuously when grids get blocked, start to overflow and threaten their properties with overflow/flood water. Dave
  14. Mornin' all, Best regards to any with ailments Back to the damp & drear in The Moorlands at kick off today. The council is reducing the amount of ice dancing that I'll be likely to encounter this year with some hidden drains along the roadside at this previously well known ice spot.... ...under the road and away towards the reservoir.... Feathered ones provided for Enjoy what you do Dave
  15. ...funny feeling that it will continue until they are available to the masses Derek....then it'll be someone elses turn. Dave (not employed by SLW and only commenting as a satisfied owner of a D5000)
  16. ....my main (logical) reason for ensuring that she has as much normality as possible in her daily routine Ian is precisely due to gap/difference in male/female takes on emotion versus logic. Is is one of the most logical women that I've met but it is still challenging at times. Dave
  17. ....rollercoaster is the best word Ian. She has just gone out for the day with her friends, dressed up and looking as pretty as I've ever seen her look. The two extremes demonstrated in just 24 hours. My accused and self confessed flaw is absolute logic....Is's friend in Suffolk nicknamed me 'Spock' for locking onto the best solution with the most logic. She wanted one of the small far eastern cars cos she could buy a new one and liked the colour. I pointed out that the cost of the spares was high and that the engineering of the vehicle was 'just enough' rather than 'built to last' which risked high labour costs due to it going to the garage each time there was an issue. She ranted about it being her money but still went out and bought the one which I'd suggested. Dave
  18. Mornin' all, It was easy to understand the early pagans celebrating the return of the sun this morning. Having spent around two weeks hiding from the rain or else having to put all clothing into the airing cupboard due to being caught outdoors by one of the spiteful downpours, it was a joy to head out into the light....and approaching the Winter solstice too. Is is a bit fragile now with the mastectomy due in a weeks time but otherwise fine....yesterday she was busy throwing things around until I asked what was the matter, at which point she burst into tears and described her fear of the operation and partial disfigurement. Feathered ones provided for Enjoy what you do Dave
  19. Evenin' all, All the best to anyone ailing. Struggling with the rain and the constitutionals just now....seems to be precipitating continuously. Managed the short anticlockwise this morning..... ....racing hillside streams suggest that levels in the reservoir may be rising.... ....where have the reservoir fields gone? Approx 2ft to brim full. ....even the nature reserve side of the causeway is wall to wall water.... Feathered ones provided for Enjoy what you do Dave
  20. ....if that is the biggest flaw in this model John, then you have little to worry about. Some components didn't scale down to look as good in 4mm as on the prototype....it may be that an executive decision was made to go for the best looking representation in this instance....but that is not an official line. Electro-coloration of very fine sections in tight situations relative to the next will progress too....if the gaps are too small then you wouldn't be able to paint/repaint the model. Dave
  21. ....you can take it that Sutton Locomotive Works would not release an incorrect model, so D5000 will be correct in 'as built' condition. Locos based on the Southern had some mods to the underslung tanks because of weight/route availability issues. Therefore, if D5000 was reallocated to the Southern I'd be looking carefully at close up pictures of that area, whilst it was there. Dave
  22. ....post reworded just for you Porcy... One correction to my previous posts is that the D5107 model is not a production version....it shows what should happen if sales go well. There are some of the individual features of this sub-class included but not all. Dave
  23. ....yes, if I had to choose a weak spot on the model then I would go along with glazing. Dave
