  1. Just seen on Facebook, the above which took over from TAG models a couple of years ago, is closing the Doncaster shop on 19th May. Citing current economic climate. This just leaves Panda Models on Hallgate
  2. Dover TOPS and Shipping Office closed early 1995, roughly 6 months after the Marine closed to passenger traffic, with work transferring along with most of the staff to Dollands Moor. The office retained full time TOPS clerks until the transfer, and indeed at Dollands the Documentation and TOPS work was carried out as separate functions. As regards the other SE offices, B Arms and Hither Green closed in 81, Ashford as noted 82/83 Tonbridge closed fully around 87 which just left Dover and Hoo on the SE. Norwood closed around the same time as one of the Norwood clerks came to Dover. The Stannox 89600 encompassed both the Town and Ferry yards.
  3. Just to be clear, the NER/ER never had any power twins or 3 car sets allocated. The power twins tended to be active in the Manchester area, the 3 car sets worked off Derby, so would have visited Lincon on the ER.
  4. Freightliner traction fuel discharged tanks 6E53 Ipswich to Lindsey Oil Refinery.
  5. There was an article in Model Railway Constructor in the 70's that featured Passenger loco and also Ranalagh Bridge. This had a trackplan of after the turntable had been removed.
  6. Yes North Pole bank would make a ED cough a little in diesel.
  7. I worked at Dover and Dollands Moor from 1981 until 1998, have dug out our local simplifier for 1986 Speedlink trains working onto the LM / ER / WR :- All maximum weights :- 33 = 910 47 = 1090 73 = 550 2 x 33 = 1320 2 x 73 = 1000 We also had a Ramsgate, Canterbury West, Ashford, Tonbridge working which was booked 740 tons for both 33 and 73.
  8. Credit Card bill when you come home....?

  10. Past experience preferred diversion is Scunthorpe, Old Road, Erewash to Trent or via Derby to Stenson Junction.
  11. The need for two RB was due to the fact that the Night Ferry passengers where Immigration and Customs cleared at Victoria, but the train also conveyed foot passengers and local passengers from Dover, both were offered a buffet service but had to be physically kept apart for Customs and Immigration purposes.
  12. These vans lasted in International traffic until the mid 80's. Last traffic flow was groupage traffic from Stratford LIFT to Basle. There was also an intermittent flow to Italy around the same time. One of the final nails in the wagons international career was DB banning them from their network due to poor condition of the fleet.
  13. I can only remember the relief cabin at the South (Clay Cross) end of the island platform. Never used it, but recall seeing stuffed full of crews with the usual card schools in progress, when passing bye.
  14. Alternately you could tell them to man up and get over it. Sadly IMHO your post illustrates a breath taking ignorance of mental health issues, have had a very close relative attempt to take their own life many years ago, I fndit incredible that anyone who really knows the worthlessness some people feel when suicidal considers that that person should consider others in the method of taking their own life beggars belief. I sincerely hope it never happens to a relative of yours.
  15. Rfd did indeed contribute to the electrification scheme, however it would in theory it would have only been possible to have one 92 under power between Redhill and Tonbridge. Plus there were issues with immunisation of the signal system on the line. Redhill was mainly intended for diversionary use for SB1C gauge traffic every four weeks when the Maidstone East was under possession, and obviously when disruption occurred due to incidents. There was however one booked path IIRC 1145 - 1200 from Wembley which was available, and used for a short while by a trial service to Spain, traffic levels never took off and that died after a very short time. Normal ferry wagons could pass via any of the routes Maidstone / Sevenoaks / or Redhill.

  18. Some of those figures look like some of our former colleagues in the Ferry yard, need to put one on the steps of the 350.
  19. Thanks for that, unfortunately the photo used was taken on the 26th September, 4 days prior to the last run. By the 30th E5013 has gained 4 numbers as per these photos :- https://www.flickr.com/photos/robertcwp/8520527185/in/album-72157603648772112/ http://railphotoprints.uk/p287659169 http://www.semgonline.com/misc/named_17.html So whilst it can be said that the model represents the loco in the early part of the last week, it is not in last run condition. I only noticed this as I was looking at availability yesterday, as I saw the Arrow on its last run at Folkestone, and to me the omission of the second number on each side stuck out like a sore thumb.
  20. Can you confirm that E5013 in blue is meant to represent the loco working the last Golden Arrow on 30th September 1972 ? Thanks
  21. SR Vans at the Kyle http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/477549 I started on BR in 1974 at Hull Paragon, our parcels services regularly had all the SR van variations, both 4 wheel and bogie. Similarly with the GWR Syphons and the other GW design bogie vans. In the run up to Christmas every thing turned up such was the volume of traffic back then. Before I started in March 73 we also had the last "Birdcage" van S3S appear one Saturday morning and sometime later one of the "Plastic" PMVS in the S14xx series.
