  1. But not there all the time! Like certain types of bird or wildlife?
  2. But the I695 is part of the Interstate Highway System, which while state owned, is heavily funded federally.
  3. They can't retrieve the bodies, without removing some of the debris. Much of which is on the ship, so going to have to get chopped up, as carefully as practical. At least the ship is still floating and not on the bottom, with containers everywhere, including floating off like an iceberg with most underwater.
  4. The Republicans will be busy blaming Biden, for not protecting the bridge, although it's been open since 1977, I believe. I doubt that they would be game to delay funds, although nothing is guaranteed.
  5. Perhaps you've never heard of the Daily Mail? Or any of a number of British media. I wouldn't trust the date of many of them - they have 6 months worth of 1st April!
  6. Specifically, WD40 has something in it's composition that attacks most plastics. It initially appears to work perfectly to lubricate as what you hope for - perhaps long enough to entice you to do the rest of your fleet. Over a period of time - months perhaps, the plastic will gradually become brittle and disintegrate. Nothing can fix it. Read on the can, for what it IS useful for.
  7. The 2nd Amendment has a lot to answer for! Shoot first and ask questions of the survivors!
  8. There's a guy in WA in Australia, that is facing court over cable tying 3 kids up. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-03-06/broome-man-charged-with-restraining-children-at-vacant-house/103552664
  9. It has an interesting history. Not sure that I would want to pay the daily rate (whatever it is), for a specialist ship of this nature. I suspect it doesn't do a lot of work, but essential. https://www.enr.com/articles/41701-floating-crane-on-job-in-nycs-east-river-has-a-storied-past-of-cold-war-intrigue
  10. Or a scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail!
  11. Try telling that to the people of Queensland, Western Australia and Northern Territory! It doesn't work for them, as the closer you are to the equator, the less point there is. They have had referendums on the subject, so aren't going to conform with the rest. I was just reading today about a town in WA Tucla, which uniquely has a 45 minute difference. It's because they are very close to halfway between Adelaide and Perth, which are 90 minutes apart. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-03-30/central-western-time-eucla-time-second-time-zone-in-wa/103243096
  12. Whereas in Australia, there is another week of Daylight Saving and clocks go back an hour on the first Sunday of April. At least for those states that observe it.
  13. I'm sure people tried it long before Sat Navs were invented.
  14. This article doesn't explain HOW the vehicle was stopped, but no suggestion of guns being crucial to stopping the vehicle. Personally, I don't care how many police cars get damaged in such action, but hitting police officers is totally unacceptable. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-03-29/police-officer-hit-by-car-which-then-allegedly-left-scene/103650148
  15. Indeed, Baltimore is a major port, it can't take months or years. Building a replacement bridge will though.
  16. The Railway Modeller for 1994 November had an article for a 4mm model 'Cathedral', but that was for a 4-8-0!
  17. The CDU cannot give out a higher voltage than that across the capacitor. Where the higher voltage comes from, is after the point motor has thrown, the Back EMF causes a large spike (100s of volts) in the reverse direction. This is what the diodes are for, to shunt those volts from doing damage. Even a more expensive multimeter won't tell give you that information accurately, so don't bother buying one. Just take the advice that there is indeed a large spike of reverse voltage.
  18. Agreed, the SS Lake Illawarra was puny (it was scuttled as a result of the collision), but I'm sure the victims and their families fail to see the difference! Fact is the Dali probably didn't need to be anywhere near its actual size to have the same effect.
  19. Measure the resistance of the coils - power removed totally of course! That will tell you if they're cooked - plus the burning smell of course!
  20. One things for sure, the Harbourmaster that prevented the Australian Antarctic ship from going under the Tasman Bridge in Tasmania, Australia must be quietly smiling at being proven correct! A much smaller ship, but for a bridge that has already been hit and collapsed once.
  21. Still sounds like a 'Wild West' approach to me! Australian police are regulary armed, but I do hope they never resort to such dubious tactics.
  22. More details here. https://www.tme.com/Document/cb545971aaf7e641179e4750a1704dc9/HFD2_en.pdf What voltage did you say the CDU put out? You do have a multimeter?
  23. A CDU cannot put out AC. But yes relays are usually DC, but you can have AC ones.
