  1. The advice given is normally correct for SEEP point motors, i.e. alignment issues. But yes, those 25 Pin DIN ribbon cables are a bit suspect. Using multiple pins/wires will halve the resistance of course. That solution depends on if there are spare wires available obviously.
  2. The stock was described in the May issue, the layout in the 1977 April issue. Intriguingly, one of the 3 MTK Class 25's is described as 'one model having the (Rovex) motors mounted in the roof on press studs'!
  3. Yes, the MRC ones were in the December issues. Another good one was entitled 'Make your own HST', for under 435 pounds'. Using a lot of 2nd hand materials from the authors' scrap builders supply house, IIRC. It was obviously a fake. December 1975
  4. I got bored during the latest lock-down so I decided to take up fencing. The neighbours said they'd call the police if I didn't put it back.
  5. That's part of the catch, to make it sound plausible and seemingly not much at risk. The ones that get me are from businesses I've never heard from, in currencies that trigger an alert straight away. For instance 8000 odd Euros. I'm in Australia, somehow I think I'd remember spending that sort of money!
  6. WW1 caused major problems, as up to that time regiments etc were made up from localities. In Australia, large numbers of soldiers were decimated leaving whole districts with a shortage of men. So much so, that Australian military started assigning men to regiments randomly.
  7. What do you call a cow with two legs? Lean beef. If the cow has no legs, then it’s ground beef.
  8. Does that belong on the 'eBay Madness' thread?
  9. Just do what the other half asks you to do - she'll love you for it. Maybe!
  10. It took me less than 5 minutes to read those posts, so perhaps you're all arguing in your spare time!
  11. It does seem odd that the G0G has chosen to NOT make available to it's members, items that the previous manufacturer has discontinued (for whatever the reason). I have never modelled 7mm or been a member of the G0G, but I kind of expected it to be like the EMGS, which has for decades made items available that are almost essential for EM modelling, yet difficult (not impossible), elsewhere. From what has been suggested within this discussion, what is the attraction of joining the G0G - very little it seems.
  12. Not really a joke, but it should change the mood!
  13. I believe you are getting close to the mark. England was less effected than Scotland, Wales and NI. This was also true of the American Civil War, where the losses in the South were vastly worse than in the North. This is why in some Southern states the Confederate flag is fairly common, in the North, the current 'Stars and Stripes', is the only flag usually seen.
  14. Are you sure, I thought the US was far worse. But it is hard to find out.
  15. I was talking about within England. NI is an entirely different matter.
  16. An old thread, but appears to work, as long as plastic wheels aren't used. http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/27013.aspx
  17. The thing is that the American Civil War, was disastrous to the country and so has never been forgotten, so there is a huge mistrust of the national government, especially by the Confederate states. The death toll as a percentage of the population was very high, indeed the losses of WW1 & WW2 and other wars are less by several factors of magnitude. Yes, I know England also had a Civil War, but by comparison, it has been virtually forgotten.
  18. In recent times, the NRA has been trying to influence Australian federal elections on the basis of the Howard government's gun laws restricting sales/ownership of certain types of fire arms. These were introduced after the Port Arthur massacre. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Arthur_massacre_(Australia) According to the NRA, Australians are afraid to leave their homes, because we can't defend ourselves. I'm happy to leave things as they are thank you. OK, we can't leave our homes in Victoria at present between 8.00PM and 5.00AM, due to the curfew thanks to Covid-19. Again, I'll follow that instruction, it's in my interest.
  19. Perhaps he was one of the accidental gun deaths? There was 495 in 2016. Most countries would be appalled of that number as a total, not just accidental.
  20. Which is a good reason for not starting, if it means disposing of a lifetimes collection.
  21. Because the post man, is going to fill out/change the voting papers?
  22. Yes, timing can be very convincing and the best of us get caught believing them. Suddenly, hopefully you twig after they say something strange. But what sort of printer is it and how do you connect? A friend had endless trouble, with it not able to connect frequently. It was creating endless profile in Windows. Eventually a computer shop fixed it, it was the USB printer cable. Once replaced, then problem gone.
