  1. Thanks Martyn A very interesting read and I might have a go myself Cheers Will
  2. Looking awesome... much better than my efforts! Anyone got any methods of keeping the buffers straight as I've ended up glueing some of my worst offenders.... which feels a little sad seeing as they're sprung. Cheers Will
  3. I'm now curious as to what level of layouts we should all aspire too.... (other than Pendon)
  4. I like the sound of a PWA Fertiliser wagon Or any ferry wagon tbh. So much choice I doubt you can go wrong!!
  5. That sounds an interesting idea Jim... and thanks to you I'm about to order some copper tape
  6. I'm not sure where this is going and imo the arguments placed could easily be applied to any genre/era. Modellers model what they want to see and if they enjoy themselves then fair play. It's funny cause I actually feel some of the digs could very easily be directed at me. After all I live in Surrey with no permanent layout (yet) and spend my time attempting to ultra hack stock. I actually find it quite fun (and running qualities on my test track are my main priority). I'll probably never join a club as I doubt there are many out there who also spend a few months researching MK1 stock in the late 80s early 90s and find it fun... And then go for EM gauge. Anyway that's my current project and what's keeping me sane (?) away from work. A small point I'll make is I don't need to see a layout in every magazine. I tend to read (and find more interesting) smaller achieveable projects... be it stock. .. line side details... electronics etc. And if they have a D&E theme then all the better. (I really could have done with one recently on modifications to MK1 coaches
  7. Thanks Jim! Your use of the copper tape sounds like a genius suggestion. I was looking for a way of sneaking some wires through without fouling the interior.... copper tape sounds a great plan. Cheers Will
  8. This is the funniest thing I've read all day. Thank you for your words of wisdom.
  9. Hi Alan - sounds great. I've just drilled out the centre where you'd fix red jewel supplied with them. I'll hopefully get over me cold and post some photos next weekend! cheers Will

Excellent stuff!! It's looking like a proper 50 I think you'll enjoy the weathering it though!! My favourite stage although for me it does mean that I glazing to follow which nearly finished me off when i did my 50s. Just a thought are you planning on making any changes to the lighting circuits? cheers Will
  11. Some great wagon choices there! My vote would be (anything china clay orientated/speedlink) & PHA/JHA Orenstein & Koppel Yeoman bogie hopper PBA Lime/Aggregate bogie hopper Of course I've got some PTAs & PFAs on my long term build desk so you're bound to go for those Seriously though the kit i have for the PFAs is quite basic so will be a good choice. Most of the old Applyby kits seemed to cover interesting prototypes so there maybe some options there. cheers Will
  12. It's a hacksaw job.... i did feel a little bad cutting up the Lima body Glad you've got yourself sorted! cheers Will
  13. Agree with this. The "historical" articles are of great interest to me.... and I always buy Traction which gives a different view on most topics and I think they could expand their modelling section. Will
  14. Just doing a batch of 11 Mk1s... Will keep me quiet for a while!!

  15. Just doing a batch of 11 Mk1s - Will keep me quiet for a while!!

  16. Inspirational photos Always happy to see more of this great layout, cheers Will
  17. The lima ones fit fine and what I used on my 50s (they're on my Flickr page if you're interested). I think they actually look better than Hornby's versions. I've also built one set of ph designs grooves... I gave up simply because I'd 7 sets to build and couldn't face it. I have some spare ones if you want to try... please pm me. Cheers Will

Looking great and please don't rush it!! 6 months is no time at all Cheers Will
  19. Interestingly I've just bought 10 issues of MRM from a preservation society. They've been a good read! Some good comments here and regarding content I'll admit to not purchasing many mainstream magazines recently (other than MRJ and Traction). My interests are probably a bit too wide so enjoy reading about steam as well as diesels etc. I don't think there is enough support for a stand alone mag... but I do feel more diesel content is available. Just look at some of the good stuff on this forum! Cheers Will
  20. I've been debating what the interior colours should be for my Mk1s and Mk2s.... if anyone can help that'll be greatly appreciated! As far as i can see some of the MK2a's in NSE livery/period had a very light (almost white) interior so my choice of grey is probably a bit dark. But then again I think some might have had a wooden interior... Mk1s I'm even more lost on! And I think they were a light (almost white) colour for the Regional Railways versions. It's a difficult one to find info on!!
  21. Hi Martin Some excellent coaching stock.... I found this thread searching for shawplan frames and glazing. I'm not sure I'm brave enough taking them on at present but they do look fantastic on yours ! cheers Will
