  1. As usual, late to the show.... Sorry.... Not my area, I'm afraid to say. However.... That is nice!
  2. Which is why magnetic railguns are in vogue. I think I've got that right.
  3. There is no truth in the rumour, that Easyjet are looking to take a franchise on HS2. Also, there is no truth in the rumour that they have not bought heavily insulated gloves, so the customers can stand on the roof..... No, none whatsoever.....
  4. I agree. The face-to-face meeting is all important. It sets you apart. You would be surprised how much business gets done over a cup of coffee.
  5. Sorry John, you're a little bit off-target there. If you are letting a contract ( Hornby to Honourable Chinese Toy Company) then it's down to Hornby to specify the quality of the finished product. It is also incumbent on Hornby to inspect the delivered product, to check if Honourable Chinese Toy Company (and any sub-contractors) meet with the specification set out by Hornby. The idea of Hornby being a manufacturing company is irrelevant here; it's all down to the management of the contract. I still think Hornby are savvy enough to act on any problems, should they arise. Ian.
  6. Hmm; rebrand? I don't think it would work in this case. Other companies are making (possibly) better models, so quality & fidelity becomes ever more important. Hornby were 'the only game in town' especially with the likes of the 51xx prairie, and Bachmann; the mogul. The Toad brake van? Oh dear... Seems like Hornby picked that cherry, and Rapido are picking another one. If your quality drops off, then you're inviting a competitor to equal your product, and steal your market. If a manufacturing company (such as Hornby) makes a lot of Mazak components, then it's down to Hornby to specify the ingredients, and inspect the incoming product for quality. Sending a thousand Flying Jockstraps back to China would get the message across.....
  7. Yes, and you're probably right. However, once your reputation is effectively spoiled, then what do you do?
  8. A final thought on Mazak. If we assume that Mr. Kohler reads these posts ( I think he does) then he will most likely move to correct any problems with the Mazak. However, he most probably won't mention it, for having spurious questions , which Hornby won't want or need. In any event, the great catch-all is:- "Hornby reserve the right to improve services & products, without notice, as required".
  9. Aha! Methinks we have a misunderstood post. The idea is to have the bridge spans in 2mm, but the bridge piers & height in 4mm. That's why a 2mm bridge, but in a 4mm context. In other words; building a 4mm bridge, but using the width & span of an existing set of 2mm bridge plates. Yes, I think I've got that right....
  10. Just an add-on idea for Dapol... Just an idea.... Supposing that Dapol put a set of pickups on this proposed model, just to increase the electrical connectivity on what is in reality, a short train. I'm sure others have made this in the past.. I've got a couple of ex-Airfix auto coaches here, but there's always room for more.
  11. Well, I can understand the niche element. After all, the Western built 80 of the 26xx, whereas the Kings numbered 30....
  12. Hello Ian, I thought I quoted the Aberdare Railway (Mountford) in my previous post; is that correct?
  13. Autocoach? Oooh, nice! There is an (Eric Mountford) book on the Aberdare Railway. with 3 autocoaches being propelled by a 64xx. A bit of a no-brainer there. It's nice to see all of this Great Western coming out of the woodwork; just what's needed. Didn't someone sell a Cordon gas wagon? Now, if one (or some) of the manufacturers would like some examples, I'd like.......
  14. In that case, both, I'm afraid. I used to go to Iceland, as I'm partial to Lorne sausage. sad to say the pack of 10, is now a pack of eight, with an increase in price as well.
  15. A bit of a repeat request, really. I wonder if it would be a good idea to actually not number some of these proposed models, especially with the large wagon fleets that existed at the time. Some wagons did indeed have just the one or two numbers, but when we get to the likes of Ocean, Cambrian, and Naval, 4-figure numbers were quite common. Perhaps a USP for Rapido?
  16. I thought Morse was ex-National Service in the beginning, so he would have had some firearms experience during basic training. Given the circumstances, I would expect Thursday to actually retain the pistol against future use, however caused. Although the Endeavour episodes are completed, I would certainly expect a 'way in' in the event of a spin off situation being commissioned.
  17. Supermarket junior manager... "With things getting easier, prices will come down". Supermarket senior manager... "Ah, you must be new here!..."
  18. Maxwell House had something like this in 1965-ish. Answer the question, and it was a cash prize, or a box of chocolates.
  19. Sorry old chap: I've been 'diverted from my jobs' However, tomorrows Saturday, so Yes, they should be here.
  20. You won't see technology like that in the 'envelope' which we know of, but things like embankments, etc, might work. You're more likely to see wind turbines than solar panels.
  21. I'm pretty sure that iron Minks were used for the conveyance of flour, in addition to explosives. Flour dust is highly combustible in the right (or wrong) situation.
  22. If it's a footbridge, try dropping the scale to 2mm, but in the 4mm context. A set of 2mm bridge girders should look just right, being of lighter construction in the real world.
  23. I guess you might have a point. In my defence, I was trying to inject a bit of humour. Humour is at best, a 50-50 shot. Some will laugh, and some will 'WTH!
  24. Meanwhile, in a mind far, far away.... He awoke, arose, dressed, and left the house. It was a day like any other, but today, somehow, felt different. Forsaking his trusty Jaguar, he caught the bus into the city centre. Everybody seemed the same; babies in prams, mothers shopping, chatting, going about their everyday business. But somehow, things felt different. He couldn't place it:- It just was, well, different. Hurrying along, his mind racing, focussing upon his own, inner thoughts. "What is it? Think, man!, Think! He stopped by the park, and sat down. "Dammit! Something's not right! What is it? Just then, a figure crossed the park, towards him. He seemed familiar, but the figure seemed different. The person drew closer, ever closer and stopped just in front of the park bench.... "You've been cloned, Morse, said the figure. "Everybody has been cloned! He looked into the reflection of the pond... It was true! He had indeed been cloned! As he looked around, all of the people looked the same, even the birds in the trees, all the same... "Oh my Lord! I'm stuck in a one-Morse town...
