  1. Hello Brian, thank you for your response. My main point is this;- You've got a poll that works very well- don't change the format. My suggestion is to merely expand the scales involved. For instance, we might want to vote for locomotive X, but which scale? as an 00-centric modeller, the existing poll works just fine for me. There's a list of consistent rules, and established practice. The scales don't need to be a barrier to creating what is already a very successful voting platform. Cheers, Ian.
  2. May I suggest a compromise here? Introduce an extra page into the poll, naming the 3 major gauges/scales. For instance:- 2mm- 4mm- 7mm The polling items are still the same; still RTR. I don't know how this sort of thinking with the polling team would work, after all, it is their time. The one great advantage is that RM Web does have a standardised formula, and it does work very well. At least, from where I'm looking..... Cheers, Ian.
  3. Ooh, tyre profiles. Back to Caerphilly. I'd guess they would send another loco, say, 5690? Or, 6601, 6675, and 6676?
  4. A bit off-topic, but I find the Dapol wagons far easier to convert to 3-link. Usually the headstock has a hole ready moulded to install the drawhook. There's nothing to beat seeing a rake of wagons taking up the slack, regardless of gauge. Cheers, Ian.
  5. Well, we're all little Englanders, mostly in 1:76 scale...... I voted, you know! Mostly, the Western Large Metro.... Tootle pip!
  6. I finally managed to visit the Cardiff show. Very high standard of exhibits, Mutton, Ynysybwl, etc. The modelling demonstrations were top-notch, particularly a 7mm model of a Rhymney Railway 0-6-2 tank, which was just exquisite. Cheers, Ian.
  7. As we know, expense can be extended, or reduced, depending on your circumstances. I've reasonably finished with my expenditure. My last major expense is the shed to house it all in. As my age continues, I understand that there are certain time limitations upon me. Do I splash out on the latest 'must have'? Or, do I enjoy what I've got? There are one or two 'must haves' that I will buy, purely because I've said that I will buy when those models finally turn up. Those sad people whom read my posts will know which ones.... I really like the idea of a Heljan 47xx, or a Big Lizzie, but they never ran in my area. By the same token, no P2, or Flying Scotsman, etc. So yes, it can be expensive, but if you're realistic, it doesn't necessarily need to be so. Some of these modellers spend £10, and make it look like a million dollars. Now, they impress me no end. Happy weekend, Ian.
  8. Working (shunting/sorting) the train against a gradient?
  9. Please correct me, but I thought they were:- A E I O U W Y Non-welsh speaking scholars will be heading for Google just about now... Prynhawn dda! Ian.
  10. This is a similar view to a lot of pollsters, I guess. There's a lot of Western models already 'done' towards an ever-diminishing back room of history. 3 new Western models in the last 12 months, with another 3 in the wings (I need to check it out, I could be wrong). Perhaps we have indeed reached the end. A diminishing example base, coupled to a diminishing demographic. Hmmmm. Happy pondering, Ian.
  11. Thanks Brian. I've only voted upon those Items for which I would like to see made. My personal list does reduce over time, as 'new' items take up the spots on 'my' list. I fully recognise that you need to retain a degree of realism: After all, there's an exceedingly slim chance of seeing a Port Talbot Railway 0-8-2 tank in the news. The same applies to a M&SWJR 2-4-0 in 00. I can vote, but I need to stay true to myself. Cheers, Ian.
  12. My one & only grimble about Bachmann panniers. "You're havin' a top feed, and that's that", sort of thing. In fairness to DJM/Hattons, at least you had a choice with the 48xx body.
  13. Ones which come from South Wales; "I'm off now in a minute". (I'm just about to leave). "Puddit down by yeere". (Put it down here). "Cheers, Butt". (Thanks very much, old chap). "Look you now!" (Pay attention!). "Up down there a bit". I remember this from a certain pub in Pontypridd, I'm sure it's not unique to South Wales, however. Ian.
  14. We reached a very clear understanding about my proposed railway shed. However, I need to complete a job or two. However the 'job or two' gets expanded. Today's job or two is now to include a toilet valve.... Grrrr......
  15. Hello Tom, I don't think you're missing anything. It's a fine body of work. As far as the geological composition, don't ask me, I haven't a clue! happy modelling, Ian.
  16. The continued poll should drive down the choices to the individual. It stands to reason that if you've bought the product, then there's no real need to vote for an occupied slot. A classic case whereby I'd vote for a bulldog, but not a dukedog. Continuing the poll allows newcomers, etc, subject to the cut-off date I 'think' I've got that about right, haven't I? Ian.
  17. Tom, what you do with Cwm Prysor is up to you. If you don't like the rules, change the rules! Obviously, something is working for you, otherwise you wouldn't be generating this level of debate. Crack on, I say. I think I'm in the majority here. Ian.
  18. It's very difficult voting sometimes. After all, what am I doing, voting for Scottish rarities? A bit too late to ask for a Taff Vale 04 in the ranks, but I'd be dead chuffed if an A class made it into the top 10. Niche with a capital 'N'..... Next year, perhaps. Pleased to see the Taff Vale Directors saloon back on the lists.. (It might be on 'your' list, it's on 'my' list). L&BSCR mogul? Yes please! Yes, I know it's far, far away from Pontypridd, but sometimes, you've just got to have some of these things! Well done poll team & associates; lots of work for 10 minutes of fun, and 2 years of froth. Me? Off to vote for the Barry Railway M class, and the Pwllyrhebog incline locomotives..... Happy modelling, Ian.
