  1. I really like the 'rear view of the station' look, and am going to have a look at redesigning my plan that way round. I was working on using a low relief station building at the back of the layout because i'd bought it - and designing the layout round what I had rather than what I want. You've definitely captured the "less is more" look well and sometimes looking at other people's plans can make you realise what was wrong with your own...
  2. Just had the weekly Kernow email to say that OO signals are in stock. http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/category/997/Semaphores
  3. Such great work, now why can't I fit something half as decent in your layouts in almost twice as much space? Gah!
  4. Looks good - don't often see railways in cuttings like that and you seem to have got it "just right" there.
  5. If anyone is interested in engineering trains or minor derailments apparently you can see both in the same place causing a bit of chaos at East Croydon this morning. My boss said it was a 'rail grinder' but I don't have confirmation of that.

One of ours I'm afraid, can't say any more at this time .....

  6. Wheels appear to be inside the frame - but it's the fact he doesn't seem to know what scale it is gets me - looks like it's probably O-16.5 narrow gauge if anything.
  7. Your guess is as good as mine. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRAIN-O-GAUGE-/160806616893?_trksid=p3286.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8719671677210341601
  8. At £10 it's worth the chip alone, surely?
  9. I think the reason is that most O gauge modellers - due to the cost and requirement to build a lot more stuff than in other gauge - would be classed as more "advanced" or "serious" modellers, whereas there is not really the O gauge equivalent of "train set" modellers that would buy the equivalent of a Setrack oval track pack?
  10. I have asked, and apparently as the minimum recommended radius in O gauge is 6ft, that's what they produce, and there "is no market" for tighter pointwork or, for that matter, other points, in O gauge. Clearly there are quite a few of us here who think otherwise... because sure, if you're running a 37 or 4-6-2 then it's going to have problems with tight curves but for something like the 08 or the many small wheelbase industrial shunters with short wheelbase wagons out there for these type of micro-layouts they're going to be fine particularly given the usually tighter almost settrack radii found within industrial settings exactly like you portray well on this layout. There is of course the Marcway option - or building your own, which many of us do not feel confident enough doing (and let's face it, if we did, there wouldn't be much of a market for Peco in the first place).
  11. ... visit the Dapol stand and ask when the catalogue is coming out?
  12. Very nice work, I only wish Peco made smaller points then a lot of my planning stage problems (that I'm still stuck in) would have been solved a long time ago.
  13. So much in a small space. Makes me wish I had the time, patience and skills to build points as it'd be so much easier than sticking with Peco being so big.
  14. They are supposed to be O gauge figures though - or at least 1:50 which is probably as close as you're going to get. I'm not sure the "but every Great Western branch line had one, dear" could stretch this far though...
  15. The name translates as "Thursday Market"...
  16. I remember seeing a narrow gauge model of a layout set in Morocco running through the town centre - something like that in O gauge would be quite interesting and as usual has triggered the 'bizarre layout alert' in the back of my head that has already started me thinking of a way to use it despite having no narrow gauge stock or in fact any knowledge of middle eastern railways, towns or anything else having never been there (visiting or seeing something often triggers an idea but in this case there is no such background) Found it - Souk El Khemiz http://www.freewebs.com/soukrail/soukelkhemis.htm

Never seen that before.
  18. has managed to fix a regularly crashing computer by taking the lid off - it was not Windows playing up but an overheating problem under load triggering a system restart to protect the CPU. Saved £400 ...

    1. Debs.

      Debs.

Mine does that too: I blow the entire MOBO and case clear of dust/dog-hairs, using compressed air and then lube the motor-shafts on CPU and GPU fans with a bit of "maintenance oil"

  19. As I understand it (and one of my friends has been selected to carry the torch at one point) they all had a chance to buy a replica torch for themselves as a keepsake.
  20. Poking a cocktail stick through the windows to operate minature levers? Surely we should be able to use nanotechnology to make a working DCC controlled 2mm scale signalman that can be connected to a PC. f1 to make tea, f2 to make coffee, f3 to add milk, f4 to add sugar... the options are endless.
  21. Most Lima stuff, in any scale, looks "wrong" by today's standards! I remember the N gauge stuff that was a different ratio in each X, Y and Z axis... and none of them were right!
  22. Not "in the plastic" but anyway they're a bit early for me - I'd like some nice standard 12 ton vans in brown with BR arrows please About six would sort my layout plan completely...
  23. You'd have thought that, for the best part of £40, someone would have been able to make suitable rtr wagons instead of us having to mess about with kits. Let's hope Dapol surprise us with some nice box wagons soon, preferably BR TOPS period...
  24. Thanks Andrew P... makes me feel a bit better knowing I'm not the only one who is having trouble with a Slaters kit
