  1. Thanks Andrew P... makes me feel a bit better knowing I'm not the only one who is having trouble with a Slaters kit
  2. I have a Slaters one which has taken me about 2 years so far... got as far as looking at the etches of brake rigging and ground to a halt through fear and incompetence.
  3. Enjoying watching this come together, I saw some box vans in one of your photos above in the siding by the goods shed, where are they from please?
  4. Oh no, another cheesy and entirely inappropriate Peco commemorative wagon http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/product/37935/RW3_Peco_Diamond_Jubilee_Commemorative_CDA_Clay_Hopper_Wagon

You could form a lovely rake with the Royal Wedding wagons they've done over the years...

I have a copy of the July 1981 Railway Modeller, which has the remark that in 25 years, the Royal wedding wagon was their first non prototypical wagon. Guess that they'll need to expand that list a bit more now....!

  5. A flash of inspiration... design the baseboards to suit the track plan - not mess with the track plan to suit the baseboards. Genius... although seemingly known by most of RMWeb... why didn't I pick it up before?

  6. It can only be stupidity and greed - A few years ago I put on some unboxed second hand Peco box wagons starting at £1.50 each, which you could walk into almost any model shop at the time and buy brand new boxed for £4.95 each. They sold for an average £8 each. I couldn't figure it out.
  7. I must have missed Graham Farish's brief foray into O gauge. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Graham-Farish-0-gauge-model-373-078A-Bulk-Powder-Wagon-Lever-Bros-/251036067905?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3a72ea6841
  8. Apa box goes back in cupboard, can't do what I wanted in the space, so it's now a 4ft x 21" board with two 3ft x 1ft fiddle yards that will go on each end in due course. Just need to dig some space out now to put the board up on its trestles.

  9. As soon as the full 7 or 8 car rake is available, I have an APA box sitting here that would probably do the job nicely.
  10. Run it on 12v and you'd probably get smoke as well - albeit briefly...
  11. Wow... I could definitely be tempted if a full 7 or 8 coach rake was to be available. Wish there was something in the picture to show the scale of the thing though, even though I know T is bonkers small it's always useful to have a reference.
  12. Enjoying reading the Dapol 2012 catalogue, I can see it's going to be an expensive year. I'd never have thought there would be so many new things coming out at once!

      Well done Waggy :)

  13. Dave, do you envisage eventually releasing these in 7mm to go with your 7mm stock programme...?
  14. Awoken from my work slumbers by top and tail DRS 37's on a yellow test train going past the office window leaving London Bridge. Dreadful!

proper type 3's ah mate :)

  15. That's a very... eclectic collection. Hard to tell if it's worth £9000 without a proper inventory though. My guess is that it probably isn't - a lot of people think to seem that just because it's in a box despite being second hand and 'played with' it's still worth as much as if it was bought brand new in a shop at full rrp today.
  16. Hmmm do I build a layout in one APA box, two APA boxes, or just revert to standard baseboards? At the moment the storage yards are both longer than the scenic section!

  17. Oh dilemma... Is "O gauge 08 shunting plank" the new GWR BLT? Will exhibitions be full of them in a year's time meaning I'm better off concentrating on the N gauge project first...?

      Or try a GW BLT?

No, Highland themed lines are the new GWR BLT!

Well, there are two more locos to come from Dapol .....

  18. That Frankenstein's Monster has been up before. Can't possibly think why it didn't sell.
  19. Looks more 'barbecued' than 'weathered' to me...
  20. Appropriate user name selling it too.
  21. Accurate signalling isn't necessarily cheap; ready assembled colour light signals of 2 or 3 aspects are showing up between £10 and £15 each; add direction feathers, call on etc and your'e at the same or past the cost. Admittedly you can buy kits and do it cheaper but these are "ready to plonk" of course. You probably will find discounts off of the price Dave quoted, but even at full price it's pretty impressive as a ready assembled product, when you look at the alternative home made option that usually involves a slow action point motor.
  22. I don't know what the answer is, only that I haven't "made it" yet.
  23. Irritated by haulage enthusiasts.

  24. There's more to the west country than GWR... some of us model the Southern you know.
  25. I hadn't come across the name 'spade bit' but now you mention it I know exactly what you mean. Thanks for the tip. Now, about those signals, how about some nice Southern region ones for us west country modellers?
