Well, that was disappointing. Missed breakfast and detour enroute to work to photgraph the ECS working with Tornado crossing Ouse Valley Viaduct North of Haywards Heath. It was on time, the sun was shining and it was warm... but on the rear, not 60163, but a red and gold 66. Herumph! Where's Tornado gone?

I know how you feel, living in Haywards Heath I was looking forward to seeing Tornado in my home town (and Steam in general as we had 44932 back in March, then the Royal Wessex on Saturday started in Brighton but didn't have steam added until Southall then taken off there again with one more trip due this way this year). But Tornado does seems to really dislike Sussex. First her visit to the Bluebell in 2010 for the 50th Anniversary Gala was cancelled after she failed and now this.

Oh 'eck. My visit to scaleforum has left me wondering about switching to P4... if I'm going to add detail, why not go the whole hog? Time to browse the advice section me thinks

Re-wheeling....whats on your list? For the average modeller with some hand skills its easy. Ran a re-wheeling workshop at scaleforum this year ..1st time ever.
In simple terms relating to diesels... couldn't be easier than taking the shell off, taking the keeper plates off the bogies, removing the wheels, bending the pickups out a bit. Refit the new set, lube and replace the keeper plates. You don't need a set of wheels to try.....just remove a set from your deltic and then refit...

Has been acquiring P4 wheel sets :-)

End of an era... sat at my desk and noticed a 757 lining up at the end of Gatwick's 23L... in BRITISH livery. This was the BA machine that they painted in retro colours prior to retirement... and this was then stored at Gatwick with some of the ex-fleet. The aircraft looks as though she's just left these shores... carrying a N-reg and already powered by Fed-Ex's engines... the sight of the original BRITISH 1980s livery looking as splendid as ever on these always modern looking ma...

V1000..! Now there's one that doesn't get a mention often! Yes the view through the trees isn't bad... just glad that I caught a glimpse of red... and then watched the grand old lady go off to her new life in the US. She was waiting at the hold behind the all-orange easyjet 319 - their 200th one... quite a contrast. She then pulled forward after a BA 734 crossed the threshold... somehow the 752 in the old livery looked more modern than the 734 in the current one!

Am I the only person that thinks the new David Bowie track is possibly a spoof..? Surely he's not taking this seriously.

Is beginning to regret the current project. Scratch building the detail on a 4mm class 47 bogie. There really are lots of fiddly bits ... including the bits around the primary springs that are just too damm fiddly to see how I could make. Maybe I'm tired. Maybe a break is needed. Even the three springs I've made are not consistent. Over a month of not getting anywhere.

Cheers all. 7mm is out for a number of reasons, so I'll not even start that route... but thanks anyway. The time element is a good point Tim... it's something I have too little "spare" to do all of this. But I need to think what I'm trying to achieve. The trouble is, when I see something that I think needs to be improved, I will try to improve it; seeing a need for improvement and being unable to is frustrating

... and there it is! I didn't order one, but my "reputation" has achieved Western Enterprise!

Trying rmweb on the android tablet for the first time. Very nice..!

It's actually an old HP that my mother in law obtaiend from her son (my brother in-law) and was only using it as a clock! My Wife obtaiend it and uploaded some android software and now it works quite nicely. Mainly for use by my lad in playing games etc - but quite useful to browse the tinterweb... although I do prefer using a proper keyboard on a PC or laptop rather that the touchscreen thingy... but I'm old fashioned that way ;-)

Has been watching Vulcan Howl type videos on Youtube... it's up there with the Merlin growl and Deltic drone... oh happy memories and now a big smile!

Bach 47 in paint (yellow on waiting days to dry before masking for Blue). So, what's next? Hmmm Bachmann 37 (lots to fix on that); Hornby 50 (not tooooo much to do, but not top of my list); Hornby 31... maybe, I want to work out what needs to be sorted with body shape so maybe not the easiest of projects (I've 2 to do); Heljan 26 - a possibility as the body only needs grills and glazing but the bogie detail needs work, or; perhaps another deltic. Decisions decisions?

They are aren't they. I bought 2; one for my youngest to play with on their railway and one for me "to do". I've got the body bits (grills and glazing, and discs) from Brian but those bogies need beefing up (brake cylinders) and some new snpw ploughs are needed... add to that M-L-Illustrated this month (I picked up a copy today) is on the class 26 and 27. As if I needed more incentive ?
-
Aargh! how many more 47 roof fan mesh pieces can I break?
-
:-( If anybody wants an Ultrascale wheelset for a Heljan 26 in OO please PM me - I ordered in P4 ... looks like their system hiccuped somewhere. Chasing them at present (no answer)... but might be putting on classifieds ... 7 month wait down the drain :-(

tomorrow I hit peak age! That'll last for 3 years and I hope they're good years 'cause the next one's likely to be a bit duff!

Lesson learnt with varnish on inkjet printed scalescenes - diorama made of such is now scrap due to varnish lifting all ink. Not sure if recovery is an option.

Paper? possibly. Not sure... but then bending this would not be as easy. Varnish... hmm, used railmatch ... to waterproof it all. That's my problem. Last night, after friends had left (after wine consumed) I thought about the problem. Wondered about how to stick new top sheet accurately. Settled for use of pritt stick which allows some repositioing ... and it's almost all redone. I will need to varnish it again, but this time I will use the humbrol hobby spray (which worked before) an...

Will do Pete. Followed DonB's advice and added a thread and used fabric waterproofer - not from Lidl as suggested (they didn't have any) but the kiwi stuff we already had. It works on test piece. Board covered in printed sheet back onto the existing messed-up card - with Pritt to allow repositioning... which went on ok late last night (even after a couple of bottles of wine), finished this morning.... and stuff applied, now drying. Will look to ballast this week once the fueling point...

Have you seen the pictures of the card model of Braunton in the gallery..? WOW!!!! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/50596-braunton-6/

Uugh. A meat-feast apple. At least it looked dead!

Phew! Last etch fitted to Bach 47 body - cab side screens and door windows. Thin, but nice. Hoping for some warmer weather now so that I can get some primer on.

... fitted manufacturing plates too. Don't tell anyone, but I brought the wrong ones; convinced that oval was Crewe... so that's what I got - on these oval is Brush (oops)... but as they're flush and will be bathed in blue paint, I think I'll get away with it. oval plates on a diesel cab side are a pig to fit straight - second one fitted and left on 5th attempt... but happy now.

Traction control blown... thank goodness for snow socks. One wonders if the council had ever heard of the concept of gritting the roads!

Brighton modelworld... interesting day learning how to operate fiddle yards with train and loco casettes at the busy end of P4 Brighton Road, driving the trains on the upper lines and generally having a fun time. Home for a needed cup of tea now though. Thanks to Barry for letting me help.

The show is definately a general model show.., it didn't take me long to walk around and see what I wanted to see - which there wasn' ttoo much of... some nice chats though (including the NMRA) and got a good deal on a DCC fitted Craven DMU, which will go nicely with my deltics (the first trains I rode). The Daleks were there in force - might still take the boys on Sunday if possible

Likes the temptation appearing across the top of this page. Thanks Andy.
