  1. Given we have these in Yorkshire I assume the reporter has used one and thought that they had similar level comfort as a wagon.
  2. The first two coaches listed were Eastern region vs stock, unlikely to be used on LMR services, whereas vd LMR stock were often used on through transpennine services. If the OP has said '15 guinea special' then I would have got it but some of us have other interests, its like quoting 1950's/60's shed codes to somebody intested in post 73 BR

I don't do OO but R4775 look OK for 4288/4493 and R4776 looks OK for 4937/4943. 39-051J is 4059, this was an earlyish AC204 TSO, 7/57. It would only have obtained Commonwealth bogies when transferred to the southern when it was converted to air/electric. If the model is accurate then it is 'wrong' for M4943. In terms of liveries check the ends of the coaches some were black and other were body colour depending on the works who last painted it. Even I would be happy with any model of a mK1 TSO as long as had the right bogies.
  4. Sorry what planet are you on? Nobody with any sense buys limited edition models as an investment. It was a limited edition since less that the normal production run was produced (200 vs a normal 504ish). There was not even a numbered certificate (well not in mine).
  5. The BFK had same passenger window width as the FK/FO; this left a smaller van area than the BSO. The gap between the guards window and the double doors is smaller with the middle van window closer to the guards windows.   6. TOPS codes varied depending on vehicle type. For example Coaches were 4 characters and NPCCS were 3. For coaches and example could be AB1D - A for LHCS, AB for LHCS Corridor Brake, 1 for first class, D for Mk2D - which gives a Mk2D BFK. For NPCC and example is NEX. N for NCPPS, NE for 100mph DH Brake Gangway, X for dual brakes. For Wagons e.g. BDA, B is for bolster, D for the type of wagon and A for air brakes. In addition you may see long reference which include diagram numbers, so for the MK2d BFK the code would be AB106. There may more than longer diagrams numbers for each type. So for Mk1 SK the short TOPS code would be AA21. This incudes sub types, AA201, 202, 203, 204, 205 and 206
  7. The fundamental body is the same between Mk2d and f so if doing a cut and shut BFK then fixing the odd vent and fan is not a problem. The alternative is just to add a new interior and paint the 1 and Yellow stripe on - fixing the fan and M/A would be on my list but even I would find it difficult to tell the difference of a plain body shell without the livery and number to help.
  8. I read an article a long time ago that covered what the early withdrawals - including D3/3 Crossley, D3/4 MB and D3/5 MB with BTH - could have been under TOPS. The jist was that 09s would have been 08/1 or 08/2 (with 15mph, 20 mph and 27mph variants). The Crossley versions would have been 09 if they had lasted longer with MB/BTH as 10/1; if the Crossley locos had not survived and the MB/BTH had then they would have been Class 09. How accurate that article was is uncertain; however given how BR worked at the time its could have been anything.

  13. D2510 was a Hudswell Clarke loco and looked different. The loco behind D2407 is a Hunslet (either and 05 or the unclassified 0-4-0 equivalent), the position of the bake reservoir and no front step would imply the 0-4-0 version D2950-D2952. WD 12/67, 12/67 and 12/66 cut 1/83, 6/68 (CF Booth) and 8/67 Slag Reduction Ikkles. I just happened to be reading the relevant section of Butlins disposal book yesterday - it has photos of D2510 and D2950. In terms of location it could be the wastes of Tinsley yard, it has a set of power lines running down the west side.
  14. Farish have put the odd wrong number on their coaches, but this is slightly different from the choice of which vehicle to model. I don't see why they should not spend the same care with coaches as they do with locos; in this case this would be equivalent of doing a class 47 as D1671 or D1734, or 46202 as Princess Anne.
  15. Got my I/C Ex FO/TSO and I/C S w RFB plus B/G BSO. Yet again Farish have chose the least useful BSO - their first Mk2a BSO 9430 lasted only 3 years - they have done the Mk2f BSO as E9514 which was a late transfer from LMR and then converted to a DBSO (the late lamented 9706 Polmont victim). Still, they are very nice models.
  16. The 128 (5) and 114 (5x2) parcels stock lasted until November 1990 (the 127s went May 89). The 128/114 sets were based in Cambridge in 1989/90, the last LMR sets were the the 127s (Longsight based). While they did got out and about I never saw them with anything else other than on their own or 128/114 pairings. They were formed to provide services where running round NPCCS was an issues; therefore it is unlikely to have a tail load.
  17. P5 2020 identifies 718-732 and 747-749 as low emission (All T2 engines are low emission, the earlier versions can be either.)
  18. The B5 has a bigger flat faced traction rod (the horizontal rod slight off centre) and a thicker bolster. I have seen a B5 conversion in N and it was clearly different from a foot away. The B5(SR) is a different bogie and although similar in design is notably difference from both the normal B4 and B5. The only Mk2s with B5s in normal use were the Mk2 Pullman Kitchen (PFK) and the Royal train conversions.
  19. No public use BR standard coaches had through pipes (some NPCCS did). It was not possible for the Mk2f to be unfitted and the Mk1s to have a working vac brakes. They did have TTA tanks - I was at Fort William when the 16:05 off Mallaig turned up with the sleeper day coaches and TTA behind a Class 20 (nose first). It was definitely air braked.
  20. The mixed traffic service with the tank would have been air braked. Some tanks were vac with air pipe but I read that the whole train had to be fitted when in public use.

  22. They do close couple, but not with a body mounted coupling - they are limited to Second Radii track. The gap between two at rest is Mk1s is 3mm, the gap between two Mk2fs is less than 3.5mm. The gap between two Poole Mk2d/e is over 4mm. So while a body mounted solution would be nice the gap is nowhere as noticeable.
  23. If you have a steady hand then the FO would be good for for the 64xx SO or 68xx TSO with some minor paint/decal changes.
  24. The coupling is on the bogie but couples as close as a MK1. Its also approximately the same height as their Mk1 unlike the MK2a. The B/G FO and TSO are ER examples, great for me running with Deltics and 47/4s but not with the upcoming BSO which only went to the LMR.
