  1. Evening all from Estuary-Land. My brother was good at woodwork, I still have a couple of items made by him that I will pass on to my niece. My woodworking skills are none-existent however. My maternal grandfather was a cabinet maker as was his father and grandfather before him. My great grandfather had a business employing twelve men making bespoke furniture for the west end department stores. I'm not sure but a lot of such businesses were based in the arches under Broad Street Station and that could be where he carried out his business.
  2. How to use a gun when a gunman gets into the school?
  3. I follow a group on Facebook for American British car enthusiasts. A few years ago one of the group members obtained a Hillman Husky with a rotted out floorpan. He was well pleased when I told him that they shared the same floorpan with the Sunbeam Alpine/Tiger. He went out and found a Sunbeam Tiger that had been rolled but had a good floorpan, he also fitted the Ford V8 from the Tiger later replaced by a Chevrolet V8 and auto transmission.
  4. I recall many of the fire buckets that used to adorn railway stations used to be full of cigarette butts.
  5. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Once the rain had passed we had bright sunshine except for a heavy shower mid afternoon. Still haven't had the eyelid inspection yet so thats next and then I'll watch 'Death in Paradise'.
  6. Same as the original Mini, 10". There is one I often see around here wearing Minilites.
  7. For practicality I would choose the Standard Companion estate. I am aware that the small Standards had a reputation for rust but so did many cars of the era. Twenty years ago I was looking to buy a Morris Minor van but those that I looked at required a lot of work especially the van part*. Then I found an ad for a Reliant Kitten van and purchased that instead. *A separate part bolted onto the chassis. They suffered terribly from rust, especially around the gutters, it was not unusual for the roof to come flying off when driving.
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I usually take a couple of Nurofen before bed to keep Arthur Itis away. I didn't last night and the left hip kept me awake much of the night so only five hours sleep at best last night. A bit of eyelid inspection might take place this morning. When I went to switch my laptop off last night I got a message that my e-mail was not available (couldn't find site) and this morning was the same. I went into the history and clicked on when I opened it yesterday and it came up as it should.
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The dampness has arrived here as well, Arthur Itis gave notice of its arrival a few hours ago. I didn't go to Tess Coes this afternoon after all, I have sufficient supplies until Monday so I had an eyelid inspection instead.
  10. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I received my Tesco Clubcard vouchers the other day, £20.50 worth. I usually spend them on topping up the petrol but at the moment the car doesn't need topping up. They have made changes and they've ceased giving money off and extra points vouchers. I then noticed that the cash vouchers are valid for two years and can be spent* on a Railcard or on the Channel Tunnel Shuttle. *They also double in value when you spend them with Reward Partners so my £20.50 becomes £41.
  11. A difficult choice, the Moggie Minor 'borrowed' the A35 engine and gearbox but had the torsion bar front suspension and rack and pinion steering. The Standard Ten engine went on to power the Triumph Herald and Spitfire so wasn't a slouch either.
  12. The parcel's arrived so I can now get on with a few things.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Not a bad night last night, only a couple of callouts from bladder control. Need to do some shopping but I'm having to wait in for a parcel. Things to do so I'll be back later.
  14. I recall over forty years ago when Matchbox produced a model van in the Yesteryear series with the royal crest on it but without obtaining permission. When this was pointed out they had to withdraw them from sale and produce them without the crest. Those with the crest that 'escaped' are now sort after.
  15. Another car towed away but in this case they probably done the driver a favour as she seems to be intoxicated.
  16. Evening all from Estuary-Land. No rumbles from Arthur Itis this evening and hopefully he's taking the night off. I've been getting the dashcam ready to fit to the car and over the weekend I'll sort out where it can go, The main camera is OK but the rear view camera might be a bit tricky to find the best place. Also where to run the wires where they are unlikely to be snagged.
  17. Many years ago there was a street behind Barking Police Station with double yellow lines. The local CID had a tatty looking Transit van with peepholes fitted in the sides. I observed it one morning parked on the double yellows with a parking ticket on the windscreen so I went in and told the desk sergeant that the CID van had got a ticket. He said he'll tell them but I hope he wiped the grin off of his face before he did so.
