  1. Some lovely old 50's footage of summer in Blackpool; never heard of the band but the music fits the old film pretty well.
  2. Can you carefully scrape the lining off with your fingernail? That should work; then to remove the pressfix glue I'd try normal white spirit or meths on a cotton bud.
  3. That MARC rake would probably weigh in at over 5kg; they are hefty beasts.
  4. "Everytime I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race." H G Wells Wells in todays world in an Audi Q7 " Get out of my way you c%$£!"
  5. Could it be that they had their heads down and didn't see the horse until the last minute and then made evasive action. A cyclist with his head down glanced off me on Monday on a narrow cycle lane with a wall at each side and I'm pretty sure he never meant to wall me. There's a lot of us and we all make mistakes and should try to be better aware. If they undertook that horse on purpose though, they are just idiots and deserve what's coming to them.
  6. The old Lima coaches brush up quite well and can be quite a joy to work with. Also there are no Bachmann Mark 2 B/C coaches so unless you build the Southern Pride coaches or chop up the Bachmann Mark 2 they are the only option. If you have modelling friends they may well just give you them or you can pick them up for a few quid at toy fairs. I'm working on a rake of 9 Mark 2 C and sold off the B4 bogies for as much as a tenner a pair on ebay and replaced them with Replica at £1.99 a pair. These coaches work out at less than £3 a coach but I already had wheels.
  7. It's just got the big Hornby coupling, the chassis is a Heljan.
  8. Another option for the DC kits 74 is to put the body over a Heljan Class 26/27/33 chassis. The bogies' wheelbases are about right (15mm disc wheels may be a bit underscale) but the bogie mountings need re-drilling in-board on the metal chassis and the drive shafts need reducing and sleeving. Bogie sides can be attached to push fit with plastic tubeing. Chassis' can be picked up cheap or buy a new loco for £60 and sell all the bits you don't need on ebay
  9. Yes, we all make mistakes. I can remember driving a large rigid lorry down the wrong slip road somewhere in North Yorkshire/Teeside only noticing my error halfway down. It took about a thirty point turn to get it the right way. Unbelievably nothing came up the slip road. Another time I put an artic on that access bridge over Bescot yard and had to blind side reverse it back onto the dual carriageway but luckily that was in the middle of the night.
  10. The thing is for some reason most people only want stuff that's not available. There's a big chance that if a range returned few people would buy or want to pay good money for them.
  11. Orders for APT's will still be being taken after June. Would it be wise to lock all those potential customers off the thread?
  12. It's always been dinner for me at mid day in Wakefield. I thought it was the posher folk that said lunch and working classes said dinner but it seems it's almost everyone that says lunch; mindst you, now we're all middle class.
  13. I can claim to have finished a can but the splattery low pressure at the end just ruins your model. These cans serve as a good reason to move towards airbrushing; controlled paint and airflow save money and don't fill your house/garage/neighbourhood with overspray and a small compressor is no noisier than the can. I've heard folks say that they will only be spraying a couple of models so can't justify the cost of a compressor but if you are a modeller you will definitely end up spraying lots of things and it's far cheaper and better all round to spend some cash on the kit rather than the cans.
  14. You rate the Tri-ang mk1 don't you Martin? I'd be tempted with getting a load of them from toyfairs for a few quid each if I wanted rakes of mk1's and chopping the sides to make SO/SK. Funnily enough I've just been looking at some in my loft that I'd detailed and fitted the SE glazing to ages ago and they look really good; my Hornby mk2's did not turn out good with this glazing but I've just ordered 9 packs for my Lima mk2C rake. I don't use the Shawplan etches because of expense and difficulty fitting glazing to the etch. Have you tried the Southern pride stick-on window frames. I've never seen these in real life or on line. A real expense nowadays seems to be the wheels. Replica still have the excellent B4 bogies at an unbelievable £1.95 a pair.
  15. This makes me wonder when Scalextric stopped producing these liveries. I had the JPS F1 car in a set when I was about 6. I can also remember in the early to mid 90's going to a rally at Dalby forest where glamorous girls trudged through the trees handing out free packs of Rothmans to the spectators. Good for you mate with the Viper. I had a vanishing point Challenger and loved the old adverts for these cars; they were pretty sexist and macho but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy them as pieces of history.
  16. I don't think it should be locked, especially considering the latest announcement about a new moulding machine. Why do people want to lock threads?
  17. I received an order for transfers yesterday that I had placed over two weeks ago. They sent me an e-mail to confirm the order had been posted.
  18. Maybe so but it has been fascinating to read "The Turf Burners" ongoing story and discover exactly how much help consumer protection offers the consumer; what do they do? ; how do they justify their wages?
  19. A big drawn out "Amaaazing!" is used to describe things that range from mediocre to crushingly banal.
  20. Has it an aluminium shell with white metal cast ends? Make sure the mating surfaces are well keyed/roughed up for a better bond and check everything dry fits square before sticking together as the lips will probably need a lot of filing to fit well. On my MTK DMU I used superglue to join the ends to the shells; clamped up overnight and then 24 hour araldite on the inside to strengthen the joints. 2 part car body filler will be good for hiding the joins. Enjoy the build.
  21. Are we sure this sweatyness is not some festering residue on the surface and has not in fact leached out of the plastic? I had a couple of sweaty Lima mk2's that got moist again after I rubbed them but stayed dry after a proper clean (brush and washing up liquid). I can't explain why the bogies went grey and salty though.
  22. Could well be. I have a pile of the Cambrian kits, 10 BBA and 3 BAA to build sometime. Has anyone tried making those card kits for the 'eye to sky' coils that you can get on ebay? You can make quite a lot for about four quid it seems and I wonder how they'll look on these kits.
