  1. Even locos in the past had a range of horns fitted. I'm sure that some such as 47's had a differing tone. There are way to many Snowflakes out there who complain about anything. Had it where there was a person who complained about the steam trains producing smoke (all her photos just showed steam) and yet her neighbours sent messages after the pandemic closedown to say that they had missed the sight and hearing the trains.
  2. When I was at the KWVR the other week some of the locos (Bahamas and 4F) have vinyl numbers and LMS over the BR logos. All this just for the new Railway Children film. Has anyone ever seen a green LMS livery? Hope that in the film they blended them in as they were a different colour compared to the body and it was noticeable. Lets hope that the stock was not MkI's.
  3. If you want a photo of Slough 3 she is in the museum at the Middleton Railway as the boiler ticket has now expired.

    Wagons on Fire

If the vehicle was used by the PW team then I suspect that there were a few items inside like the fishplate grease that when heated up will combust along with either petrol powered tools or a generator. The van will be cheaper to replace than the contents.
  11. Another option was to get the train out of the way so that another could use the station. If early evening there might be others scheduled needing the path. Or a equivalent to the modern "ghost" trains that are once a day/week to keep them in the time table etc.
  12. Seems to be like a game of chess. There are folks planning certain moves but failing to consider a what if scenario for if stock is not released due to some other factors or having to release existing stock due to financial agreements.
  13. Needs politicians/NR to be looking again at Dawlish diversionary route to metaphorically get this off the ground.
  14. Another 0-6-0 done at the same time as the Pom Pom was the 3F
  15. The GCR Pom Pom as fitted some time ago
  16. This weekend the 4F has been fitted with a chip plus sugar cube style speaker
  17. I think that the best thing to try will be to disconnect all wiring from the motor and then just try a simple DC supply to the motor. This will check that the motor is ok. If that works ok I'd be tempted to rewire them. If fitting a DCC decoder you will need to ensure that the chip has enough power for the motor. I wonder if ScaleTrains.com can assist as they now own the brand.
  18. Talking about cost comparisons I had a long weekend in Barcelona a few years ago and flight back cost about £12 and train from Manchester airport - Leeds was more. Sometime I might even time it and have a meal before catching train. Still no comparison to cost of sleeper even in the UK. Most of the travelling public will want to get there as soon as possible. When I have holidays away the travel is the main part of the journey. To quote RL Stevenson "It's better to travel than arrive".
  19. Many of the northern European countries have withdrawn sleepers as passengers seem to prefer a high speed trip and where necessary a stay in a hotel. I personally prefer to do that these days, get a nice meal, a beer, sleep in a static bed, shower and perhaps an early train. Peoples ideas about how/if they travel will change upon the easing of C19 measures. Idea is good but I'm failing to see any way that it could make any money.
  20. Many Mk I coaches were insulated with Asbestos so it might be interesting if anyone was looking at Glamping conversions if they needed to disturb panels that may have the insulation behind. Though I suspect that most of this type of insulation will have already been dealt with
  21. The main benefit is the increase in track capacity which many of those against the scheme fail to point out. Semifasts on HS2 similar to the Javelin on HS1 plus freight paths on existing lines. It has often been said to get from Leeds to Brum is longer time wise than journeys nearly twice the distance.
  22. This is a chicken an egg scenario. With a station it will attract more passengers to use the airport. Without it there will not be the choice of destinations compared to other airports. As RAF Finningley was one of the larger bases (visited for one air show many moons ago) they will be able to accept the larger jets. Perhaps a direct rail service to Manchester airport as a way to complement and add to the capacity and destinations. Or a direct substitute if there was an issue at Manchester? AT one time I was looking at a Polish trip using Wizz from Donny, still on back burner....
  23. probably not such an issue for TPE as there are so few of the sets in operation at present and there will be enough locos that have been checked for cracks
  24. When I was at Ravensthorpe station over May BH there were NR notices on the fence indicating that the station is going to be relocated west of the road bridge and junction which could enable Wakefield trains to add it. This is part of the increasing track capacity between Leeds-Huddersfield.
  25. The possible over the top prices on decent Mk I stock by others will reflect the time and cost involved if they were purchasing a rough one. I bet some of these have eased workload on C&W depts. Seems to be quiet or no comments about Austin 1 and the other locos that were potentially for sale.
