  1. I assume that you have checked that the speaker wires are still connected to the decoder?
  2. It was great to see that there were more people running DCC rather than DC. Nice to chat with Norman and then a friend from school days just before getting into the car.
  3. One of the trains on the Far North line in the 1980's loco hauled days used to run from Far North and rather than going into one of the relevant bay in Inverness used to travel past the depot and then reverse into a south facing bay. Think that the stock then formed a service to the south, can't remember exactly as it's 30 years ago!
  4. Kilarney as viewed from Google. (below) I have done it by steam on the international railtour the other year. GNR(I) 85 from Tralee to Whitehead. Limerick Junction is interesting.
  5. The Tramshed at Saltaire is now a micro brewery. Ossett have started brewing SALT beers there. Planning on visiting as there are usually some good exhibits and traders here. Anyone who likes real railways there is a gala all weekend at the Middleton
  6. Wensleydale sold this site to add a few pounds into the bank, fortunately Mr Smith has the ultimate aim of getting this site back online.
  7. These days there will loads of terms within contracts about safe disposal of various items that could pollute or be a hazard. Elf & safety seem to have taken over. Try scrapping a MkI these days and many will want to know if the Asbestos has been removed.
  8. You will find that smaller railways who just operate shunters will use a drum and hand pump (if they have access to one) or fill various containers and then pour into the loco filler.
  9. There are quite a lot of German and Austrian modellers, searching for sites in German will come up with the relevant sounds. How about fitting a sound chip into a building and run it in a consist with the loco(s)?
  10. For GUI based testing and prototyping see the TinkerCAD site above. You can try out any circuit and develop your program online without the necessity to do any complex GUI based front end. Plus as it's a FREE web based the software is already installed on your machine.
  11. There are a few photos available of the LNER bringing at least one of the P2 2-8-2's to the Cross. Think that there were comments about it being so powerful that the train length would have not been able to have been used to capacity or an issue that the "Prince of Wales" designers have had to overcome the rigid wheel base!
  12. If you have a look at TinkerCAD there you can prototype your circuit and also create and test the program. See the TinkerCAD/Arduino topic I created the other day. It would be feasible to have certain outputs dedicated to certain lights and there are code samples also for if you want to change inputs and what will happen. https://www.tinkercad.com/ It is also an ideal way to share your circuits and any program that is associated with it. Have a look at the simple samples for inspiration of things that could be done by "bolting together" different ideas.
  13. The main item in the main steam news media was about the issue in attracting and keeping staff. I'm aware that there are issues with certain railways being far from the population which then adds in quite a lot of time and cost for the staff to travel. One issue that needs to be added into the equation which I know some of our staff have considered are the hours that you have worked on your paid job and then at the railway. Working Time Directive is an issue and I have asked others "how much rest time have you had?" If you drive a truck, coach or work on the mainline railway and don't get the appropriate rest you will be tired and a danger to yourself and others. Many of those who are employed will probably need a day off from work before and after going to the railway so they are properly rested. WTD says you need a minimum of 11 hours rest between finishing one job and then the next. Safety critical jobs on the railway are subject to medicals, if the doctor indicates you are unable to drive, fire, guard or be second man etc then you have to do something else, At the beginning of this year I was given a temporary medical ban but the doctor thinks that might be lifted in the autumn. Many well known lines have financial issues that keep appearing in the railway press and they need to eliminate all debts as they shouldn't be paying x% to banks. Long lines are an issue for passenger fares. Many shorter lines are about £10 adult fares these days, however at the Middleton we often have family tickets or kids for quid days to attract them. Anyone thinking about helping a preserved railway, join them and do so. There are benefits that working members can often have free travel at other railways.

  15. For those looking to develop projects using the Arduino you can do an online free prototype using the Tinkercad software. Select circuit and then components there are a few "Standard" Arduino projects. These include prototyping of the program to be put onto the Arduino You can also share projects so if you were having an issue others can look at the circuit and also the coding to advise.
  16. I'd try to get sounds recorded from a Ford Model T car as they were based on these for the railcars. Try a local car club or museum as they will know someone who could help you record the engine sounds. Or bank holiday weekend there might be a few at the transport rally nearby.
  17. At one time on the Ingelnook rather than having the chip under the layout I had a steam sound one on top but hidden into a Bachmann pit head gear building. Not noticeable on a small layout that the sounds are just in one location. Consisting with another is feasible.
  18. MRC do sound only decoders that can be used with whatever your favourite motor control decoder is. They do ones for steam and diesel. Each can be changed for different sounds by selecting either CV's or Fn buttons.
  19. The previous plan had the track and all of the board with the rails in set's. Ash ballast above sleepers is one idea to disguise it.
  20. This is the original track before being lifted. Head shunt 2 wagons and a loco. Long siding 4 wagons. The new scheme. Head shunt on the left is still 2 wagons and a loco in length, one on the right is a challenge. With an 0-6-0ST can only get 1 wagon out at a time bet I can use Sentinel 4wVBGT and get 2 out at a time. Each tack has been wired to be live so that can use DCC on such a small layout. Was a bit noisy when under test with the HJ 05 (Legoman sounds) and Oxford Janus (factory fitted) chugging away too and fro. Board prior to getting the new track. Now to consider the scenery! Might be tempted to have track done so that I can change buildings and stock so I can use the OO or On30/O 16.5 items.

Forgot to mention the other day that the site is back online
  22. For Mk 3 stock might be an idea for those interested to chat with Oxford
  23. Just had a look at the C Marsden book on shunters and there seem to be no shots with the door open nor does Google images come up with owt. As it was one of the last in service this could be a replacement for the original life expired ones. They look rather domestic. Perhaps an email to Heritage Shunter Trust will confirm this as they have a few more 03's.
  24. Just had a measure up 30" * 12" OO standard
