  1. Looking into the options to rebuild the Inglenook as there is one point that I need to replace as it's never been any good. One idea is Until I have measured up the board not sure what the length of the middle track will be. But it will be interesting to shunt from the buffer stop at the top siding to the same place on bottom one via the middle. Thoughts!

    leedsengine.info

The website has been taken offline for some maintenance work to be carried out. Last week it had used up the capacity of our ISP and am i the process of looking to increase this, however this will cost so donations via the merchandise store are most welcome to the running costs. We do have one or two none Leeds built items in there as well. https://teespring.com/en-GB/stores/leedsengineinfo
  3. Depending upon the settings with the DCC chip you might find that it runs smoother with it in (assuming DC is enabled) on DC than with a blanking plug. When I was chipping the layout I kept the shed and goods yard on DC and the main on DCC so that I could run items as and when I got around to chipping them. Most DCC enabled stock would run with the acceleration rate as set in the chip. Proviso as mentioned above by others. Blanking plugs available from most local model shops or have a chat with a DCC friend as they'll have some assuming the loco is not supplied with blanking plug. If taking it out you might be able to sell the chip.
  4. Looking at JW Lowe this builder made about 14 locos of which 4 were later rebuilt by Hunslet into Saddle Tanks. Those dome covers are very reminiscent of EB Wilson locos.

    The Forth Bridge

Very nice. I saw a T scale over the weekend of a station and I ended up looking at the internet for the lengths of various iconic bridges.
  6. The oil used initially by the FR was recycled old engine oil cleaned and mixed with diesel. Unlike internal combustion engines if oil firing was to return the waste oil from the food industry (after cleaning) could be used as could bio diesel. Many cars say that you shouldn't use bio diesel. New smell a loco with a hint of chip shop! Coal has gone up recently by 10%.
  7. You don't need the name of the person employed by the TOC as if you can say what time train they will have a log of driver and other staff details. A scan/photo of passport or a school age bus pass (assuming she uses bus to get to school) would suffice. Asking a minor for various personal details could be classed by some as grooming by some folks. Just a simple question of name please and what school do you go to would be better as the TOC or guard could ring the school to confirm - no address or contact details of minor.
  8. Wickham on a "World Tour" visited Roanoke Roundhouse with some Norfolk & Western locos and the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 oh and a 305mm:1' scale Peckett!
  9. The annual models amongst the real trains show at Middleton Railway in Leeds takes place on 13th and 14th of July 2019. Details as per link below or link in my footer to the railway web site. I'll be there as will be Sir Douglas https://www.facebook.com/events/2209506075933821/?event_time_id=2209506082600487&acontext={"ref"%3A"3"%2C"ref_newsfeed_story_type"%3A"regular"%2C"feed_story_type"%3A"308"%2C"action_history"%3A"null"}
  10. The MSC 0-6-0T locos were a bit smaller than the J50. I joked on about repainting the Hudswell Clarke MSC tank loco as a J50 clone but the cab is a different shape etc. This is one of the Hunslet tanks for MSC (note outside cylinders). This is 70 one of the MSC HC tanks (inside cylinders)
  11. Have you tried contacting the spares dept at Bachmann? They are a helpful bunch of folks.
  12. A friend who is a driver for Northern had a week in Liverpool doing driver training on these the other week. I bet that he is going to be the trainer for staff at Huddersfield. Anything is better than a p***r!
  13. Noticed that one of the auction sites had a few Andrew Barclay works plates sold a while ago from some of the 143's that they built. Might be more economical way to buy a bit of prototype if ever you wanted a bit from one. They look to be AB 669-718 Similarly seen AB plates from some of the rebuild 141's between 736-61 Looks to be a plate per car ie 2 per set. Where they were displayed is anybody's guess. Suspect that the 153's have AB numbers (but that's not for this topic).
  14. I have the older Prodigy Advanced not the ² version. Have bought the USB connector and can now use the higher Fn's as using JMRI and WiThrottle on tablet and mobile phone. You might not necessarily need to change controller but add to it?
  15. I filled it in upon receiving the email from Fran - Thanks for the opportunity to influence what might be made. My steam suggestion would be interesting as the MW L has so many variations, wheels, bunker and cab that it's a rabbit hole to fall down..... (We have 2 different ones in Leeds if you want to look at them.) Coach suggestion was slightly left field as Sentinel railcar.
  16. A consortium of Brookfield Infrastructure, GIC and Brookfield’s institutional partners has agreed to acquire short line group Genesee & Wyoming Inc in a US$8·4bn transaction. Reminder:- this is the company that has 95% of Freightliner. https://www.railwaygazette.com/news/business/single-view/view/genesee-wyoming-to-be-acquired-in-84bn-deal.html
  17. With the talk about boiling the kettle using electricity just got me thinking... How about a modern gas or electric powered steam generator at the depot and then this could be used to "fill" a fire less locomotive. Bet that for most railways the loco would last long enough for the journey and could be refreshed upon returning to the depot.
  18. Just had a quick look online at the SLS as they have many/most of the works lists in the library. However this seems to be an omission unless these are listed under the previous businesses that occupied the relevant site.
  19. Whenever I have flown back into LHR and am going home from K+ on the train I allow at least 3 hours from the scheduled landing time. 1 hour to get bag and get through passport control. As above 1 hour on tube from LHR to K+ similar if going to Euston The extra hour is often not needed but I often include more so that I can get a drink and meal before catching the train. If money is no objective buy an open ticket so that you can get whatever train you want. If plane is late you are unable to travel on a later train. Once coming back from Europe on Eurostar I missed a booked train from the cross but got onto the next without any quibbles as I had proof of travelling by another train.
  20. Northern definitely get commission on sales of tickets. On a day as spare a friend often stands near a ticket barrier selling the passenger who needs one to get out of the station a ticket. Easy money during the rush hour!
  21. The collection companies will be giving the staff a commission for all fares/penalties gained. The same is true for guards/TTI. Anyone buying a ticket to ride needs to adhere with the regulations no matter if it's a physical, self printed or one on an app. A guard friend says that there are many who fail to activate the e tickets and complain when he asks them to pay again.
  22. Today I was passing by Great Heck taking a few photos of the Fowler 4220038/1966 and this consist came past a minute or so later 66702 "Blue Lightning" hauling this trio of ex Colas About 15:30 at Great Heck heading south. Not sure what the trio of 60's are but suspect someone in Donny might have seen them.
  23. Harz should be interesting as the top of Brocken has the radio mast and the various chemical plants near to Silberhutte. Not to mention the nearby WWII rocket facility. Website link https://yesterday.uktv.co.uk/shows/secrets-of-the-railways/episodes/
  24. Long time ago I saw a video using tape like this as the bus, however it was fixed to the underside of the board so that it's easy to add extra feeds from it through small holes.
