  1. Model Rail 246, P.27 - Full Page SLW Ad: Cat. No. 2408 - D5082 BR Green, with small yellow panel Cat. No. 2406 - 97 201 Experiment BR Rail Research Department. Cat. No. 2407 - D5040 BR two-tone green with small yellow panels. Expected late summer. Time to save up. Still available D5017 Early BR green, 24091 BR Blue.
  2. DMU (Class 101) trips are worth their while anytime; there is a particularly good run on the nearby Wensleydale Railway on their 101 (Leeming Bar, Bedale, Leyburn, Redmire). Wensleydale Railway needs all the support it can get, so visit it if you can; It doesn't have the kudos of these railways such as the NYMR or the GCR, but if you like a great rail ride with wonderful scenery (and good eating in Bedale and Leyburn) there is a good reason to support it.
  3. A check of the Heljan.dk site also shows 2 green versions D6516 (Early BR green) and D6551 (SYP) http://Heljan.dk/shop/class-33-0-1511p.html
  4. Hmm, design clever....when it means EMUs with motors in passenger areas, no route direction lighting (1950's model did), one design fits all Pacifics, etc. No I don't think so, when Hornby can turn out more than half decent freight locos and fine coaches. In truth, design clever is making the most of 'old' assets and a poorly scoped design for new runs. I thought I saw a model which was fitted with a new chassis and old body, so a compromise there. Railroad is fine as a starting point to clear the old stock, but to apply its principles to new models will inevitably be a mistake. As far as EMU, or DMU, power units are concerned, I would have thought the motorized chassis design as sold by Replica Railways would be the norm for design features. Now that's design clever. One design feature that should be taken up, where coaches are concerned, is to get rid of the clip on feature and replace it by screws. It would make life a lot easier when populating or fitting lights, for instance. I appreciate that some might say that this would involve extra costs, but coach prices have increased so some extra allowed for these changes would be worth it.
  5. Saw Doddy at Worksop, managed to get home on the following day! What an unforgettable show. RIP, he will be missed.
  6. Too right sport, yes I spent some time replacing faulty units and one did smoke some! I'm reliably informed that there is nothing wrong with the model per se! I even swapped one with a seller for a Class 33 (well, that was faulty as well.)
  7. Thanks, a further question (apologies for being a pain) do the new chassis of the rebuilt MNs accept the older bodies and any idea how far back? I have several well worn units that would be better of with replacement chassis.
  8. Thanks for the photos which showed the chassis, but I wonder if the trailing bogie was fixed or pivoted? I was unable to discern this.
  9. Interesting question, you thinking of replacing Clayton components with Class 15 components, to improve running? I only have one of three which runs well, the others are just passable.
  10. On the subject of walking, there is a great walk between Goathland and Grosmont, downhill for ease, or uphill in the opposite direction. This is the usual walk for me, my better half, and two black labs. There are other walks lineside, but these are somewhat different. On the subject of taking the trains, they can be very full more often than not and it is quite a good idea to take food/drinks on these trips as there is not always a buffet service/trolley, alternatively take advantage of the station cafes; there are quite often coach trips which have the journey between Pickering and Grosmont/Whitby as part of the tourist experience. If/when visiting Whitby, the 'old' part (across the bridge) is worth a walk round, and there can be found a good 'gin' palace' which has great food.
  11. I don't know if I missed this suggestion - how about a Bulleid Four Car Double Deck Suburban Unit (4DD), set nos 4001 and 4002. I use travel from Charing X to Abbey Wood frequently by these units. Loved them, but my parents didn't!
  12. Well done, impressive job it stands out (along with the TPOs) on the GCR. Maybe the full size one will evince some more interest in the model. Here's hoping.
  13. I bought one, a good model. It appeared some time after I had visited Olivia's and proposed an OO gauge model; I don't know how much of a coincidence this was, I left an incomplete model with them, maybe a rep picked up on it. I hope that there will be another run to add to my two units (one a kit built unit) with different markings, and, if we are lucky variations on the type.
  14. Well, shock horror here. Will nobody lend them unit, e.g. 'Daisy' sat in a siding on the NYMR?
  15. The reference to Hornby showing signs of the problems being addressed intrigues me; as I have said in previous posts Hornby have designed a 'one solution fits all - i.e. Brits/Clans, WC/BoB, A1/A3' I cannot see a re-engineering of the design forthcoming, even if it requires a small (maybe expensive) 'adjustment'. Still, as the say in the Hope Valley - live in Hope, and die in Buxton! The omission of the flanged wheels made me wonder about the intent that lies within the production design. If somebody has some concrete info on this subject it would be gratefully received.
  16. Ah, the issues which face editors....is the dream of retirement weighing somewhat? And good luck on that subject, too!
  17. That really is an interesting detail of history, thank you for posting it. I had no idea that Zepellins had such a bomb load. I presume that they were 25kg, or 50kg. max, but nevertheless injurious to the population...and as for bombing a Pie Shop, well!
  18. Every time I go over to the GCR I look at this loco and wonder if an OO model would appear, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that one is. What interests me is as to whether there will be any changes/improvements to the chassis/running gear and lighting from the D5640 that I have. I have been disposing of my Class 30's and wondering if D5640 would go the same way.
  19. Hmmm, I've ordered 1, but it isn't half tempting to order another and another! Impressive comes to mind.
  20. Interesting, it might be observed that the Bachmann 'Jubilee' (of which I have 4) have deep splashers, which have a tendency to make the model look like a LMS Castle...or is that just a matter of perception, or because Stanier had GWR roots?
  21. In somewhat similar manner, but in a different direction, I know what not to buy, courtesy RMWeb and MR. Sorry Hornby, now let me see,, no pairs of Duchesses - 2 too many, no pairs or more of WC/BoB, no pairs or more of Brits/Clans,, no pairs of A3's, it goes on. I have saved enough, and Hornby lost a little in sales. Still, each to his own.
  22. No thanks, the chassis wants re-tooling! Better another Company produce it.
  23. Not normally contributing to this elegantly discussed topic, I wish that Hornby would re-hash (sic!) their Pacific chassis, getting away from the one design suits all! For me the Bachmann pace is just fine. Now if Bachmann and Hornby could equal their bogie well wagons to that of the Oxford crew, which run splendidly as well as look good, that would be something. Oh, and somebody please produce a Trans-Pennine 6 car unit and a 4-COR EMU..
  24. Spoke to Neil of Dapol at Warley, they have been received from the suppliers but are in the process of being packaged by Dapol. It was also said that people who have received 122/121's from Dapol will have been using them with Imperium's already fitted, and, no complaints have been received so far.
