  1. Received today 1 set, without load. Ran ok behind a SLW Class 24. Not a bad dabble, will attempt a rake of a dozen. Anybody know the typical train length?
  2. I'm the proud owner of some quad-arts, so quin-arts would be most suitable.
  3. Great shop MSL, I get all my Viessmann catenary from there.
  4. Having a competent editor would help, as I learnt way back when in the past as a one-time committee member and before that when editing a student union magazine. There has to be something of a professionalism and display of subject knowledge involved therein. I haven't bought a Hornby Catalogue for years, but get Bachmann's effort, which seems to be both accurate and detailed.
  5. Yeah, well, expectations........particularly taking into consideration my conversations with SK over the trailing pony truck of the Brits. Hmmm...bear in mind his appearance on Model World program discussing absolute accuracy, 'nuff said. I really oughtn't regurgitate ol' stuff like that, should I?
  6. You couldn't make it up if you tried.......should I be surprised? When you keep hearing locomotives referred to as 'trains'.
  7. Re the LMS 8F: But (or even, yeah but, yeah but), if you look at the depictions, the LMS version has the clunky old tender draw bar (yecchh) and the BR version has the slimline (cable?) drawbar. Not that these pictures are anything to go by, as SK has sometime to revise matters....
  8. Appearing on the front of Model Rail: a beautiful (if ugly) BR SR Q1.....long time missing from the Hornby catalogue. 40 in the class,
  9. Testing Hornby couplings , I found the buckeye version works very well with the Accurascale HOP wagons, which were brought together buffer to buffer, but as these are Accurascale products the sprung buffers work well, even on 24" radius curves, and being reversed through medium radius point work. Taking a point made earlier, it would be great if magnetic couplings could be produced to conduct from the loco to the train, providing power for coach lighting. I've yet to purchase the chain link couplings for wagons....
  10. Thanks. A more diligent search by self showed examples turning up in 2023 at Kernow. Patience required, methinks.
  11. Whatever happened to the BR 2MT 2-6-0, 78XXX class?
  12. Did I see it was new tooling, in which way, I wonder?
  13. surprised at the appearance of the Deltic Prototype, although the Bachmann edition doesn't seem to have been around for a while. Most appreciative of the humble 08 with sound, can't have enough of them.
  14. Hmmm...The detectorists malign UC! It's OC for me, at least for the time being.
  15. I'd be up for a Crosti boilered model, if it was to the same spec as the current releases.
  16. My first model railway was TT, Class 31, 08 shunter, 0-6-0 tank loco and so on. Gave my remnants to the TT Society. Far too late to divert from OO Layout now.
  17. Hmmm, taking note of this I thought I'd try my new Deltic, hardly run, with this in mind. I reversed her up to a Bachmann Mk.1 and drove her through the track system, which comprises express and medium points on track with radii of 24-30". Apart from one instance, initially, of a loco slipping her couplings, which was not repeated on a second pass-by. Reversing was not a problem, with the couplings on the coach sliding easily on the deltic's coupling. There was one small problem, I have a curved point which runs into double slip from a 30" radius track, which caused the loco to derail, without any effect on the coach. I presume my track geometry is not quite correct here! In respect of the other points and junctions, I assume then the coaches' swivelling bogies enabled the couplings to work properly. I then repeated the 'experiment' with Bachmann box vans, with standard couplings. No issues were to be had. My track is far from perfect, but might best be described a w-i-p. The loco traversed a 24" radius curve on a very slightly rising incline as part of a triangle. No issues, much to my surprise.
  18. 'Sfunny, I have just bought a new 92220, R3988, which when placed on a rolling road, for running in purposes, worked ok for 30 minutes in the forward direction, but when put in reverse locked up after a very short time. Same problem on a test track. Loco now on its way back to Hornby. I have Bachmann examples both of which run ok, although one is a bit 'lumpy'. I don't like to criticise models unnecessarily, but this is something of a surprise. I did find the returns procedure rather heavy handed, strange that Hornby's Finance Dept. have a say in refunding postage costs for returns.
  19. Given that we are having electrics appearing, how about the trains that made it possible, coaches and wagons used in implementing and testing the overhead lines. The only example of this is a brake van which has 'Electrification' printed on it body side.
  20. Going back some time, I believe I mentioned the 31 should appear in a wish list posting. Well, ye-ha, it is. However, just a passing thought, it would be great if D5835 was produced, this had a 2,000bhp uprating to its engine, prior to being given an EE 1,470 bhp engine.
  21. New Upgraded Hymeks....very welcome, long time since I took a ride in the cab of one in Old Oak Common shed (RIP), thanks to a very generous driver. Even went onto a turntable. Great times for a young lad. However, EFE doing Hymeks as well, confused of North Derbyshire, or what?!
  22. Brilliant, my kind of colour, having painted warships for much of my life. Only one grey appears to be missing (off-hand): squirrel grey, as applied to KaiserlicheMarineSchiffe (WWI Germany Navy Warships). Thanks for posting this.
