  1. I assume the April date of the magazine has some significance?
  2. And talking of FB, does anyone know if he intends to do modern flat-bottomed track too?
  3. Not only that. There is the multiplier effect to take into account. The money doesn't just disappear - it goes round and round and round again. The Government get much of it back in taxes (assuming they don't get Amazon, Google etc. to build it). This then gets spent again........ and so on.
  4. Difficult to reconcile the emotions attached to a slim feature that will quickly blend into the landscape, with the things that really blight the Chilterns - like Wycombe, for example.
  5. Going back a bit, but wasn't Toton more or less the hub of the Barton bus empire, before Trent took it over? Talking of the similarities/differences to Meadowhall, I wonder if property speculators are already looking for a site for a huge shopping mall next door to the proposed Toton station. It would not surprise me.
  6. Derby station is hardly in the middle of Derby anyway Toton seems a very sensible decision to me - close enough to Derby, Nottingham, Mansfield, Loughborough and East Midlands Airport for anyone to consider driving. The only downside is it is north of Trent Junction, so not so easy to make links with trains coming north from Leicester towards Nottingham and Derby. By the time the line is built, Nottingham and Derby will probably be one vast sprawling conurbation anyway.
  7. Assume the plan for Toton involves diverting EMT and NT trains between Alfreton and Nottingham via the interchange?
  8. GWR railcars certainly did travel far afield - though not necessarily the early streamlined ones. There is a photo somewhere of one at Buxton, for example, on an excursion.
  9. Are there any drawings of these boxes at all, please - or even dimensions?
  10. Why didn't you use the N Brass kit, which is 4mm scale? http://www.nbrasslocos.co.uk/ooloco.html
  11. PSJ is an ex-Caledonian station, whereas the WHR was North British. There are more appropriate station drawings and a good photo in "A Pictorial Record of LMS Architecture" by Anderson & Fox. Let me know by PM if you would find these useful but can't get any access to them.
  12. To complete the job. I would suggest a chimney for the stove and some lettering painted on the van. Here are a couple of examples http://www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk/Fish-chip-van-took-battering-yobbos/story-12759981-detail/story.html http://blackdownarchives.org.uk/2011/06/mrs-webbers-mobile-fish-and-chip-van-hemyock-square/

  14. Regarding any colour photograph as accurate is very wide of the mark. Photos simply cannot be relied upon at all. Different films produced markedly different results, not to mention the quality of the light at the time the photo was taken. They can at best be seen as a very general guide.
  15. In my experience, logic, discipline and common sense aren't all that enjoyable. Go with whatever takes your fancy at the time!
  16. Unpowered versions eventually appear through a process called "Natural Selection"
  17. The JER is a really interesting prototype - are you modelling the stock too?
  18. Just tell her the experience will improve your DIY skills
  19. My experience with the coiled stuff was if you use it for curved track then keep it curved. If you straighten it then curve it again you won't end up with a nice smooth curve.
  20. ...........and here was me thinking it was a class 09 with the leading 0 missing. Thanks for clearing that one up for me
  21. The National Express coach really is a superb model. Nice to see one on Banbury. Makes a refreshing change from all the Bedford OBs seen on other N gauge layouts This really is a superb layout. It shows more than ever that N gauge/2mm is the best scale for modern image.
  22. and Stags definitely in the Conference Premier play-offs too, if my maths is correct!
  23. Shame they didn't develop the concept for passengers instead of freight............ .......oh sorry - that was the Leyland National
  24. Or suggest they rename their company "Just Like the Dapol Thing...."
