  1. Wonder if these can be adapted to OO as it looks a good system,if the longer shank ones come out it might be worthwhile trying them I will have a look when I go to MRScotland .
  2. Good to see the pics in Hornby mag looks good ,the detail shows up well especialy in the shed.
  3. Amazing that shot from the multi story across the London end of station ,how much countryside there was then now its all built up with flats etc.Used to watch the coal train shunting at High St should have heard the track creaking and groaning as the train traversed the yard.My wifes grandfather used to brings reeds to the basket works on a donkey cart. The variety of dmu,s at the end of the eighties was wonderous and combinations of 115,104 were the rule plus other odd units that Marylebon could find. The units that went to Bletchley for maintainence were an interesting sight as they went norht of Aylesbury,as were the freight to what was left of the Westcot branch. Its awakening memories this site and thanks for starting it.
  4. I live less than half a mile from this line in Aylesbury,I am not rich, dont live in a mansion ,the construction work is going to add a couple of miles on the journey to Oxford as they want to shut the road whilst the line is built. This diversion will also stay after its open and will take traffic through a tiny hamlet and across green feilds which doubtless will have houses built there. The promised export of work to the north will not happen as businesses want to be in or near London and I doubt that government will want to spend money on grants ,and I dont think that employers will countance expendeture on tickets the price equivalant of bussiness class airline seats. We have a right to speak our minds on this project and maybe the powers that be will listen ,and yes our thoughts do matter ,in the 1960,s we stopped an airport being built at Wing and that was announced as a done deal by the government of the day so watch this space.
  5. That postal coach looks very good good pic of the network train, looking forward to seeing it all in the flesh end of March when I am going to Penzance for a few days by train.
  6. Lets wait and see if the money actualy comes forward, wait for the cost cutting to start its still a long way to go before anything happens, they have not done the enviromental search yet and that could throw up many problems .As for going north of Brum this will be many years off despite what is said now,the Scots will probably build their own line to the border first espialy if they gain independance.
  7. It really does open the vista good move.
  8. The Victoria bridge over the river Severn was used in yet another version of the 39 Steps not a good version not like the origonal.
  9. This afternoon a Poirot Murder On The Blue Train,BR standard five on front of foreign coaches probably filmed at Peterborough ,shot at Paris looked like Marylebone before all the mods took place nice shot of overall roof night shot very atmospheric.
  10. This layout is an eye opener the attention to detail is fantastic, were did the scotties come from as they look very realistic?
  11. Using the lift in the new bridge is star wars experience as it seems to jam on a regular basis, think the name in honour of our twin town in France a link that noone is interested in.
  12. Interesting to see the photos of the footbridge,we now have a wizz bang concrete version with a lift ,the origonal bridge went to Lincolnshire to replace an old one but the local council and residents complained it was crap and refused to accept it ,personaly I dont blame them.
  13. On the way north beyond the Oxford Rd bridge there was a siding to the International Alloys but I dont think it was used very often, unlike the van and coal sidings. We had a railfest with the Duchess present and a selection of modern locos, someone had chalked on the class 20,Inter Pit 125!No attempt was made to clean any locos and you had to be careful not to get covered in muck .
  14. I had one like that a long time ago on a merry go round type layout ,nice runners.
  15. The vans were used by Hazels printers to distribute Readers Digest and other books. Chris
  16. No bacon butties glad the beer okay at least the buildings in use again.
  17. Tin bath no way to describe the finest loco ever designed with the help of the GWR made it more reliable, all the plans are in the NRM so should not be difficult to build Donny works still there as well but dont paint them silver.
  18. Bring back the A4,s far more reliable than all new fangled elecmatricity hauling a Gresley set .HEAVEN.Pendolinos good idea but do up the seats they are like planks of wood in peaseant class.
  19. The IRA were in Oh Mr Porter dont know about the Wrwecker havent seen either film for many years .
  20. The coal depot was by Rabans Lane my ex worked there for a while busy place ,but now a scrap yard .The firm that made farm machinery was New Holland a part of Clayson who are still manufacturing bailers.I used to go to the station every morning in the sixties when I worked for Smiths and had to clear up the bookstall on the station.Quite often I met the paper train and sorted the paper rounds out and then went for a coffee and cheese roll in the cafe one morning a van split the points at the north end of the platform all hushed up of course.
  21. There was a lovely GWR wooden goods shed before the Oxford Rd bridge ,also the farm equipment on flat cars ,and a regular newspaper train with a Hymeck on the front ,plus the regular parcels to Northampton usualy pulled by a 25 .We had a real mixture of units at the end of BR operation due to the regular units falling apart daily ,Marylebone grabbed anything that would move and some that tried but didnt! The old loco shed was still about but derelict ,became a wharehouse now flats,I agree about the oil depot never saw a single wagon there .By the way the Risboro MRC looked into renting the wooden goods shed as a club room but BR didnt want to know they had other ideas and were in cahoots with the council.Dont forget the station entrance was on the front of the building not were it is now ,the regular ticket collector was a great guy and only passed away a few years ago.The buildings in great Western St were very interesting in design all swept away now of course one was a pub and another became a wholesale newsagents depot.Have a look in the Old Aylesbury books there are many photos of the station in them, the Bucks Herald newspaper have the details.
  22. Coming along nicely looking forward to seeing your group layout at Model Rail Scotland will be a long day out but worth it I think.Like the attention to detail with the grass think I will have to have a look at those fence posts to use on my layout.
  23. Very old film filmed on the light railway near Alton in Hants consisting of a train crash supposedly caused by the IRA dont know who was in it or anything else about it.
