  1. Formations for the Newton Abbott - Sutton Coldfield which came your way are in some of the WR Carriage Working Notices available on the BR Loco-Hauled Coaching Stock Yahoo Group. In 1967 the formation was BCK/5FK/RB/BSO/6 Carflats northbound and RB/5FK/BCK/6 Carflats/BSO southbound.
  2. The 0820 Carlisle - Euston was booked to pick up a BG from Heysham (attach at Lancaster) to Euston and a GUV from Heysham to Cardiff (attach Lancaster, detach Crewe). The vehicle at the rear could be a dirty BG of some ilk or a GUV substitute.
  3. Some of the Up expresses from Wolverhampton in the early morning had full breakfast service when i used them in 1970. In steerage we had at-seat coffee service (freshly brewed, served from proper pots in proper cups) which started after the breakfasts had been served.
  4. When my daughter left university in the late 1990s she worked at Huddersfield for a short while. I had meetings at Manchester which left enough time to get there and have an after work pint or two before travelling back to the midlands.
  5. We've got past the point where we worry about what we spend. Both of us get what we want for our hobbies, we had enough years when we had to do things on a shoestring. The current policy is do it now whilst you still have your marbles. For when I start losing mine there's a special bottle or two of cask strength Single Malt in reserve.
  6. She's probably found the loft stash and intends to pay for the conservatory with it.
  7. Maid of Orleans, August 1964. Left Boulogne in a flat calm, took 4 attempts and 45 minutes to get round the end of the jetty trying to berth at Folkestone.
  8. A monument to the Cheshire Lines, an old bridge pier which has been left in situ at the bottom of Georges Road.
  9. Frequently active in the Facebook group "A tribute to the L.M.S"
  10. It appears that nine railcars were based in South Wales at the time of Nationalisation. Looking at the Michael Clemens Railways site I found this timetable for 1949-50 which has diesel services shown from Swansea High St to Carmarthen, Pembury, Porthcawl, Port Talbot, Cardiff, Newport, Gloucester and Cheltenham. http://www.michaelclemensrailways.co.uk/?atk=594 The services are shown at the end of part B and beginning of part c of the pdf files.
  11. Not from a tank wagon but I have a similar plate from a 7-plank rescued when I had a summer job on a coal wharf around 1963. It was attached to one of several bits of old wagon holding up one of our coal stacks.
  12. Taking a short cut in New Mills recently I noticed the remains of an old gradient post at the start of the Sett Valley Trail, formerly the Hayfield Branch. The line closed 46 years ago
  13. The first 30 of the class worked from Stratford, March or Norwich when new. Some of the allocations were probably only for crew training as by October 1961 they had all been concentrated on Stratford for maintenance.
  14. Variations within classes were not unusual. When the 313s were branded for the Euston-Watford DC lines every set was slightly different, sometimes even vehicles within a set.
  15. Can anyone shed any light on the roof colour of W242W in this picture on 53A Models Flickr site? https://flic.kr/p/GCbRd9 It appears to be white, light grey or silver.
  16. Just looking for some info for improving my old Ivatt tank and I found this of Thompson D329 corridor third E1101E behind 41242 on an S&D local at Templecombe http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p1005521121/h2F14B393#h3a8e8d21
  17. All modelling in small scales is a compromise due to materials and manufacturing techniques available. I am not going to worry about the handrail knobs which i can't see the difference at operating distance when I am running on 4'1.5" gauge track with thick wheels.
  18. For many Sir William was capable of walking on water but as he would be now approaching his 140th birthday I think it more likely your name is Dave.
  19. Until we know what was asked for by the driver and what was said by the signaller this is just becomes another line of uninformed speculation.
  20. Just checked it out, the photos show some very high-end work. Hope it gets finished before I do.
  21. This is the REB and base for the one at the north end of Marple station taken from the Brabyns bridge.
