  1. Many thanks All Teaky, it is extruded polystyrene, but it is very fine grained. Worth a punt if it works. I looked at melamine etc boarding, but thought it would be too heavy for the depth of shelf I want. Also thought of Kingspan etc, but didn't want a silver foil shelf.
  2. Afternoon All I am going to try making some lightweight shelves out of layers of extruded polystyrene board glued together. It might not be rigid or strong enough for my needs, but will be light. Before I start melting the board, what glue would people recommend ? Thinking of maybe 3 layers. PVA ? If so, are any makes of a different formulae to cause me problems ? Thanks Duncan
  3. Bill won't mind me posting this The Strathclyde O Gauge Group is pleased to announce the return of the O Gauge exhibition that has been traditionally held in the Pollokshaws Burgh Halls in the south side of Glasgow. A copy of our advertising flier is shown below: Full details are in the News and Events list on the front page of the Gauge 0 Guild website www.gaugeoguild.com and also in the May edition of Guild News. I think the "Bring & Buy" could be quite busy after the enforced absence ! One thing to be aware of - although parking in the grounds of the Burgh Halls is free it is NECESSARY to enter your vehicle's registration number using the keypad at the entrance to the halls. This is to avoid a penalty charge as unfortunately unauthorised parking has been taking place. It is also possible to park in some of the adjacent side streets in locations that have no restrictions. We hope to be able to welcome old friends and (perhaps?) some new visitors who will become friends.
  4. I made my O gauge platforms from cardboard on my first layout, and they were able to stand being lent on. I used old cereal packets & built them in interlocking sections. A piece about 20cm long & the width wanted was started with. Then strips about 2 cm wide & as long as possible (family packets) were were folded in W shapes & glued to the base. Additional bases were used with the Ws overlapping the joins. The height of the W was the height of the platform less 2 cardboard layers. The Ws were alternated side by side to form a rigid structure. When dry, the top was glued on, again staggering the joins. I think I used something like Uhu or Bostic glue. The top was covered in fine sand to resemble gravel.
  5. I suppose being the metre, the line must go through Paris. But is it the same distance down one side as round & up the other ?
  6. After the quiet period we recommence in a small way - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-61283163 & google map view the driver had before ! www.google.com/maps/@56.4673858,-2.8692652,3a,75y,231.87h,94.08t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s0ZfS2xKgX_HJwqcSkkNVxQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 Ok, for some reason I couldn't post the picture without the whole article. Highlight, right click & "go to" the web address.
  7. Interesting comment about the coal tar, the council where my Father lived has put an embargo on any repair work to some pavements, as they are bound together using coal tar. A specialist contractor is required as it is now considered a carcinogen. I still miss the tar smell which I breathed in every morning on the way to school as we passed the large tar works.
  8. The same applies to a "tiny" country like Ireland !!!!
  9. Didn't the Smart car originally fall over on cornering, or was it another small dumpy thing ?
  10. More use than a smart meter though ?
  11. Good to see you back Andy, you probably now need a lie down in a darkened room with a cool flannel over your face & a wee straw to the water of life.
  12. Surely a feminist doesn't know what an iron is ? please don't hurt me
  13. Wonder what he would say about single track roads with NSL, the passing places are generally too short for even cars to pass at a combined 120 mph, let alone overtaking caravans. ps for the avoidance of any doubt, I am being sarcastic !
  14. Interesting that the tanks only had 3 fore & aft tie downs each side. I would have thought that there would have been at least one diagonal one on each side to prevent sideways movement.
  15. I thought you wrote switch the driver off !!!!!
  16. It's the b****** who indicate then go a different way, either at junctions or roundabouts. If I had believed the indicator to be an indication of tuning left into a junction, rather than straight on, I would have been T boned more than once - experience & defensive IOAM driving. Strangely, the drivers have all been female in BMWs or Audis. Of course there can't be a statistical correlation
  17. Wonder if he was done ? Car driver probably would be for that.

    On Cats

    where's the cardboard box ??
  19. A monkey's fist has never been the same since the practice of weighing with lead was frowned on.
  20. Can anyone give me some advice please, I am clearing my late Father's house & he has a fair amount of 1970s to 1990s 00 gauge stock. I know nothing about 00, but appreciate that it is probably worth pennies. Would there be any traders at the show who it would be worth me speaking to regarding clearance ? Much appreciated Duncan
  21. Does that mean they (like cyclists) have right of way over huge 4 x 4s under the new highway code ?
  22. The police deliberately do nothing on the A75, HGVs doing 60 to 70 mph on a single carriageway, ignoring solid white lines, overtaking going round bends, until there is a crash. The HGVs are in radio communication & too many think it is safe to drive like that going to & from the ferry. A few years ago I commuted along that road & it was then seriously scary, it is now worse, deadly. Do NOT come out of a junction at night if there are HGVs about, as you could end up in the middle of gap in a radio convoy on the wrong side of the road. Just wait till autominous HGVs are running as a bunch controlled by the 1st do this.
  23. very nice - not much height clearance in places though, you might need to trim the plants
