MrWolf
Can you scale off this image given the known width of the wagon framing? The cross shaft and operating lever are missing on this Toad, but the brake standard detail is nice and clear. RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted June 2, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 2, 2022 Thanks Rob, I’ve definitely made them too narrow. That photo will prove useful I found these photos were useful for the levers 7 1
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted June 3, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3, 2022 Think I’ve sorted the basics…. ….needs quite a bit of refinement so I will have to make a few changes to the design but I’m getting there I think It's a bit rough because it’s only a prototype to test the fitting which is why I’ve not bothered to trim it properly It would be so much easier if I modelled O gauge 6
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted June 3, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3, 2022 Oh and I finally got around to fitting the rear sandbox pipes… …I’ve redone the front ones so they are in primer 6
MrWolf
If you modelled O gauge, you'd be modelling the nails in the boards and creating yourself a whole world of new problems! 1 4

Bloody brilliant mate, I can't express how impressed I am at what you're managing to achieve, just amazing. Al. 7

Thanks Al, the main issue is the buffer beams flaring out which is because the walls are bowed inward…, …so I think adding ribs on the inside will help to prevent this, although it could also be an orientation issue? I’ve tried to illustrate the issue with a straight edge on the wall, also I’ve ended up with a step in the roof which will need to be addressed I hoped to get it just right so I could offer them for sale to anyone who wants one without having to build one from scratch….if it was of interest to anyone else of course Edited June 4, 2022 by chuffinghell 6 5

I'd certainly be interested in one! (I already have several Toads, but so what?!)

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted June 4, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 4, 2022 It’s a shame the Oxford rail toad is nothing like the AA3 that it’s supposed to be. ie the bungalow style rear middle window and single pane style outer windows. Now I’m not good at doing research but even I wouldn’t have made those mistakes 1
MrWolf
But you're not in the business of mass producing scale models either. Which gives you a lot more leeway than the RTR boys. 1
RMweb Premium John Besley Posted June 5, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 5, 2022 Trouble with that is 90% will accept what's wrong as correct because they don't know and or can't see the real item any way now

We were lucky not to get a TV aerial in the detailing pack! TBF overall it's not too bad, just too many silly little mistakes and skimping shortcuts (like the footboards).
MrWolf
Why on earth has the original got a uPVC window stuck in it?

Or this one at Didcot…. …this one appears to have the bungalow style middle window and incorrect single pane windows….. Luckily they didn’t copy the net curtains too Edited June 5, 2022 by chuffinghell 4 1
