Hroth
Hi all Michael Portillo's next series of Great British Railway Journeys starts next Monday 1/1/2018 on BBC2 at 18:30 This is series 9 and he will be starting in Cambridge Note the Radio Times has the wrong info, they list it as starting on Tuesday! Keith Hope he's got a new blazer/shirt/tie for the new series! The 9th series, eh? I'd have thought that he'd be running out of routes, surely a good proportion of lines in that grotty "Bradshaw" of his would have been Beechinged/otherwise rationalised by now. Or is he going to do a Julie Walters and travel along non-existent lines by car?
bmthtrains - David
Excellent news, I'm hoping there's also a US series straight after like last year. Very much enjoy these on iplayer as a nice way to unwind David

Steamport Southport
It's a pity that many parts of the world aren't safe at the moment. There are some pretty interesting lines in Africa and the Middle East. Jason
RMweb Premium Legend Posted December 30, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 30, 2017 They are always a nice diversion from the news. I enjoy them, although I would have thought he must be running out of material by now, if not different coloured jackets!
bmthtrains - David
Just found a BBC press release from the summer - they’d ordered 15 British, 20 USA, 4 Indian and 2 Continental episodes - the India and Europe ones being 1 hour long. eastwestdivide
Can someone fill me in on what tonight's was like please? I just watched it, but didn't take anything in as I was completely mesmerised by his pixellated scotch blanket of a jacket.

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted January 6, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) A most enjoyable week of episodes so far! I rather liked the way he used the IoWSR as a means of transport, rather than focusing on the (doubtless very worthy) heritage aspects of it. AMJ
I think the red jacket reminds me of some moquette that the likes of Holdsworth produced for some vehicle seats. Looking forward to USA, India and Europe. For scenery I'd suspect he goes into the Himalayas potentially following the old Darjeeling mail from Siliguri to Calcutta. His jacket would be at home in India as many locals wear bright sari's. Europe, probably former Yugoslav country?
