A C Models Eastleigh

LSWR

Recommended Posts

Some other topics have mentioned a new model shop in Eastleigh. I dropped in there yesterday for a quick look round. It doesn't take long to look around since the customer area is about fifteen feet square with half devoted to model railways.

It's A C Models located at 5 Bishopstoke Road, just the other (eastern or down) side of the railway bridge by Eastleigh station at the far end of a short block of shops on the left hand side going away from the station. There is a small car park behind the shop otherwise there are a few parking spots on the side road opposite that are not restricted to "Permit holders only". Major brands are stocked. They have a website www.acmodelseastleigh.co.uk which is undergoing site maintenance tonight. I saw some second hand models as well as new items.

For comparison a green Bachmann 4-CEP was on their shelf priced at about £115, whereas in January, Ron Lines in the Solent Business Park in Southampton had the same item for £129.

I have no connection with either establishment, neither are "local" to me.

They use ebay for secondhand sales. I have bought several locos and have yet to be disappointed in the product description or timescale for arrival here in France.

I popped in before Easter to check it out, found the prices very reasonable, including the Hornby Southern Suburban 1938 train pack at £139.99. Wasn't sure if I could afford it but found that was cheaper than Hattons, and decided if I didn't go for it I'd regret it so went back a couple of weeks later and picked it up. The outer box was slightly scuffed which may explain the price but the set was unopened. I can justify it as T9 No 312 although having a 6 wheel tender was allocated to the SR Western Division and the S&D for part of my chosen era. Very friendly and helpful guy in the shop.

Despite the potential doom and gloom at MZ it's good to see a local model shop on the up. AC models have just moved next door into a larger shop with lots more room and expanding stock. They still have the other shop and have plans to expand back into it. No connection, just a satisfied customer; and they're about as far from me as MZ.

Living in France and a returnee to the hobby after a 30 year absence, I had forgot just how much one misses a really well stocked railway model shop until I went into AC Models in Eastleigh just the other week. To my delight, their stock included discontinued Bachmann and Hornby stock that I simply could not get on the web, well at least not at sensible prices. I collected a couple of GWR cattle wagons and a Hornby horsebox at just over half the price of any eBay shops and of course, no postage and with excellent service. It's good to see a local retailer doing the right thing and supporting, rather than profiteering from railway modellers.

Their knowledge and helpfulness is excellent and I'll be making another visit on my next UK trip. For information, the shop is now rather large and they carry out service and repairs from their other shop next door, which mainlines in war gamming.

I have no connection to this shop, other than having lived nearby until recently and now being a happy and satisfied customer. Thank goodness they do mail order!

Regards,

Bill :good:

I ordered  an  item  from   AC Models  yesterday , Thursday,  at  around  Noon,  it  was  delivered  this  Morning  Friday,  at  9-00  AM  and   there  was  no  delivery  charge.

Always  worth  giving  them  a  ring  if  you  are  after  something.

Yes a very friendly shop and very good too. Good range of models, general modelling supplies and just around 300 hundred yards from Eastleigh station and the Old Wagonworks (Spoons)

As I can hop on the rounder I get off the train pop in and get back on the return working if I'm just after a certain item :)

I'm surprised that this shop doesn't have more posts in this thread!

They're the friendliest people in the world and always go out of their way to help, and if they don't have something, they'll do their best to try and get it. I've bought quite a bit of stuff from them with a hassle free service and to be honest, it's the kind of shop that you could easily spend a small fortune in without even realising......now that's the sign of a good retailer!

And good ethics too, they held a stash of regular price Pecketts for visitors to the shop when they were going for daft money on eBay ;)

I quite often walk out with more than I intended to buy :)

I ordered a Red  Parcels office from them through E-Bay, it turned out to be N Gauge, MY FAULT, I should have checked the number. A quick phone call to the shop, and they said return it and we will refund your Money, which they did very quickly.

Really good service.
