30096's cab in the pic here looks remarkably like a post-BR modification. Anyone able to say for sure?

Looking at the pics from Dapol I might add a brown one I don't need to the LSWR club one I don't need which is already on order (with a class P from Hattons I don't need......)

Les

The cab has sloped /angled ends in industrial use

In industry, before conversion...

And after.. (still in industrial service)

I am interested in 30089, a one time Guildford shed pilot. Looking at the livery sample of 30089,

It would seem that the model has an Adams smokebox door ,in error.

Photographs clearly show this loco with a Drummond door by the early crest days.

This is an observation rather than a criticism.

An incorrect chimney is wrong white plastic crossheads are black paint and easy to fix.

Arguably the chimney is a quick fix........but these were clearly livery samples and not production models.

Let's wait and see.....There will be no more need for a replacement chimney than for black paint on the cross head.

Any way, I am thinking these will go very well with my Hornby Peckett......

A nice pre-grouping shunting plank.

Wow! Sold out already?

This confirms that they must be ready or at least under construction, otherwise with their control of the factory, Dapol would have increased the build quantity to meet demand.

They will be in the shops for January unless there is a Quality problem.

I always thought that the once a production slot was fixed it couldn't be altered and instead a new slit had to be found for any change in production numbers

Update from Dapol, all of the standard models have sold out at Dapol. There is a limited amount of the club model available. https://www.Dapol.co.uk/OO-Gauge-L-and-SWR-B4-Class-0-4-0T-decorated-samples-Update

The Club model is very nice and looks lovely in its Adams pea-green livery and I have ordered one to go with my Hornby LSWR-liveried Terrier - both were based at Exeter.  However, I think the number as No. 91 is incorrect with this livery as according to my information (Bradley) on Nos. 85 - 87 received this livery, the rest the olive green goods livery.  Can anyone confirm this and even produce a photo of locos in this livery?  A beautiful little model though.

It has something related to the book you mentioned

Interesting that Bradley seems to have changed his mind.  No. 90 certainly seems to be pea-green rather than olive green, so it would seem Dapol are correct as No. 91 would be from the same Batch.  There is a book "The B4 Dock Tanks" - perhaps if anyone has a copy of this it might some more light on this Topic.   Anyway, thanks to Dapol for producing such superb little models.

Given the bent towards small locos in Dapol's O Gauge range I imagine we may see this one in 7mm scale before long.

I hope so. I would have to have one, but it would have to be in LSWR condition. Irresistible.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a very pleasant conversation with a member of the Dapol team at Warley today,

concerning the wrong smokebox door on B4 30089. I was assured that the production

model will have the correct Drummond type door, and also the chimney will be corrected.

This appears to be a separately applied fitting ie not moulded on.

It has been suggested that these are not too far away......

Quite looking forward to these.

Is this a B4 down Weymouth?

No that's the quay at Poole in the days it was still on the Northern side and went down to the gasworks. That's the customs house to the left and the coal cranes for the gasworks in the background.
