Coastguard Creek - 15 months of planning!

    By SouthernRegionSteam

Hold on to your socks - this is going to be a lengthy one! (In fact it's so long, I've now split it into 2 separate posts - the next will be up soon...)   I think it's fair to say that you are all long overdue an update on Coastguard Creek. Due to other commitments, no real progress has been made since the last post way back in March 2021; almost 15 months ago! If anything, things went backwards for quite a while, as I kept finding more and more inspiring locations that I really wanted

Hinton Parva - Post Farnham

Hinton Parva made an appearance at the Farnham and District MRS show last weekend with the new lighting rig making its debut.     A few teething issues mainly with the operators on Saturday morning were soon overcome and on the whole the weekend went well. We do however have a couple of small items to fix before its next outing at Wycrail on the 7th November.

Brave new world and old back's of envelopes

Well this is my first post on here an a bit of a test really. I was going to bring some stuff over from the old forum, but decided against it due to complete lack of activity. I am hope that this spurs me on to 'get things done' But being a serial scale hopper I am trying to tie myself down to 1 or maybe 2 at most so I can have some output.   Whilst digging around files sections I came across this plan which I drew some time ago. I still rather like it and think it would make a nice 2mmFS layo

Here we go...

Thanks for all the kind comments, glad people like the pics/layout!   Marc - I can't see myself ever exhibiting the layout to be honest, it wasn't planned as an exhibition layout and, as such, hasn't been built correctly. Although it amuses me to shunt a few wagons about randomly, it doesn't have enough scope to entertain at an exhibition. Coupled [no pun intended!] with the fact I changed my mind mid build to not have a fiddle yard, the siding lengths are really all wrong!   Audley Road - I

Making a Hill!

Hello everyone! With my new blog on RM web, it is inspiring me to go on and work at a quicker pace than before! That and the fact i had no college work to do this evening! So i got out the polystyrene that came with the new printer and a saw and got to work! Please excuse all the glue in the paicture, it's still all setting.     Any comments?   Danny

Karrik - OO gauge in the late 70's ( for now ! )

This is a test to see if I can actually use this blog thing. Must say I wasn't aware that the old forum was moving and I am a little unhappy the layouts I was looking at, I can no longer see. Anyway, rant over. Hopefully, the following photos are of the layout that were on the old forum and if all goes well some new shots will follow soon.   All the best, Richard

Talyllyn Photos

There's plenty of pictures of the Talyllyn locos around, so I thought I'd post some shots of the buildings and track which I took last summer in the narrow gauge section. I've included one photo as taster.   http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php/topic/460-talyllyn-railway-photos/

A continuation - My wooden wagon underframe kit

If anyone got etches off me at Scaleforum and I haven't messaged you, let me know what you think of these instructions:   9ft_Wooden_Instructions_partA.pdf 9ft_Wooden_Instructions_partB.pdf   (Thanks Andy for gettingpdf format added to uploads )   I've also uploaded a gallery of prototype shots which i've attached to this entry which may be of use.   Progress continues on further etch work when i'm not building track for the club.   Craig

Brian Daniels 7mm Diesels

Brian's 7mm Workbench JLTRT Class 26   by brian daniels   original page on Old RMweb __________________________________________   ??? posted on Wed Jan 14, 2009 5:08 pm   Thought I would see how I get on with a workbench thread rather than individual threads per topic. Anyway I have been ferreting away on a Modelexpress VAA kit, the same as Ian G has done. As Ian did I too have added the brake rigging down one side, an early style of variable loading valve. I also moved the distributor

Thomas & Friends N-gauge TrakMat layout

Thought I'd post another blog to see how it works and to include my Thomas and Friends exhibition layout.   Sometime ago, reading one of the forums I came across this:   "Just got back from the WHOLE day at the show, we were reasonably pleased with the layouts present although, many of them seemed a long way off what I remember exhibition standards used to be, but it is around 7-8 years since I last attended a Model show, I enjoyed the trade presence and found lots of little goodies but no m

Petworth Town

So we have a location; a small market town in the heart of West Sussex deemed important enough to have its own branch line connection to the ???main line??™ two miles to the south. In hindsight it should have been clear to the LBSCR that they were on to a hiding to nothing, Petworth station was just about breaking even, so how the town could ever hope to sustain a branch of its own was a mystery ??“ the Lords of Leaconfield were a very persuasive lot!   Ever since I had this idea, to me there

70 foot stock

This is a continuation of my topic about GWR coaches and increasing passenger choice - (very topical - lol)   I will try to put a link to the old topic when the sites back up and running - though at the moment I'm still trying to work my way round the new site - as a bear of very little brain I'm easily confused but as Basil Fawlty says "now we're in I'm determined to make it work".   Anyway with the articulated suburban stock taking a back burner for a while, I'm trying my hand at the South

Tigh Charrann - The History and Track Plan

Right then, firstly a huge thanks to Andy and the team for this superb new forum.   Secondly, a big thank you to those who proffered advice, and suggestions on my previous Layout post "Norton St. Georges".   Right then, down to brass tacks.   Tigh Charran.   The name Tigh Charrann comes from a house we stop at during Hogmanay in Lochcarron, and thought (and hope) this layout would be a fitting tribute to the hospitality we receive up there.   The History:   Tigh Charrann is a larg

7mm Scale Aspinall Saddle Tank, Buffers

Hi   I had a little play last night with the buffers. The stocks come as brass turnings, which are fine as far as they go. Except that they are round (they should be clipped top) and they have no details (there should be 5 bolts securing the buffers to the beam). The first part was easy, the flat could be filed on the stock. There second problem is a little trickier. Time to live up to my moniker   I needed a jig first of all if I was going to drill the holes, and I came up with the idea o

Millport Victoria, Work so far

Right, as part of the plan to enable Millport to be exhibited again, the group has decided to carry out some extra work besides the re-wire which was already planned. First item we tackled was the layout storage covers/boxing, these protect the layout during storage and transit to shows and clearly had seen better days. Fortunately we have quite a few members who are quite handy at carpentry unlike myself. Whilst these new covers were being made, new backscene boards were also fitted to help f

Wagons Roll!

Morning all, just a quick update before I disappear off into the Peak District for the day   Spent yesterday finishing off a couple of wagons, both Parkside Dundas kits, namely the LNER (ex NBR) 4 plank open and the LNER 12ton goods van. Both have been painted and finished, and just await weathering now.   In the case of the 12t goods van, I have finished each side in a different livery, one side carries pre 1937 NE lettering, and the other is finished in BR livery-two wagons for the pri

Q1 Charlie update

Hi all,   having made several unsuccessful attempts to transfer the thread over from RMW3, I have decided to give the file link for those who are interested or are coming in as 'new readers starting here'   //www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=51002   Yesterday's progress was to short out the wheels and fit/wire-up the motor - all done successfully and will carry on with the remaining bodywork bits today and then give it a good run at the Club tonight and tomorrow and then strip

Smallbrook Studio van

Last night I assembled another wagon kit for Claverton Engineering - a Smallbrook Studios Glyn Valley Tramway box van which I bought at Shepton Mallet in February.     Here's what you get with the kit. The sides, ends, base and false roof are cast in resin, with a small piece of styrene for the top layer of the roof. The chassis is a standard Dapol wagon chassis, sold separately by Smallbrook . All the resin parts appear very well cast, with almost no flash and lots of sharp, well defined f

Teviotbank W/B - well, you asked for traction...

About time: first half of the Bush Type 4 fleet arrives on workbench (worktop?) - numbers and headcodes have gone, cruel photography highlights the blooming of paintwork where this has received the attentions of a pencil eraser.   Thanks for the kind comments gang. Picking up on one of them on this blog entry, here is the planned locomotive fleet, the vast majority of which is to hand and awaiting workbench. I intend multiple edits on this, particularly with supporting text and background d
