A better plan...

Following the thinking on the background, I've done a bit more playing with the plan. First up, an extension to the original one:   This adds in the branch line with sidings infront of the fiddle yard. The back siding would be hidden, allowing a branch passenger train to head off stage. The front pair of platforms has had a crossover added - to allow freight and parcels trains to be run round - the intention being that the nearside road is used for parcels traffic, the far for branch pass

Pilot Road Box File Layout

Onwards and Upwards

A very successful weekend for the layout, the operators were buzzing and knocking trains from out the back and onto the boards like it had gone out of fashion. Some excellent running and the trains really look the part now, particularly the Brit on the Wakes ECS train to Oldham mind you I did like the Super D trundling around on the Royton Jct freight as well.   Andy Ys pics in the gallery have caught a lot of the character of the layout and are some of the best ive seen so far - can you come

Bit of an intro

North British D6123 Paint

I am very glad I took the time to make more changes.   The body is in the home stretch now, detailing has begun again, a touch-up will be needed, but she's getting close to right... B)   The nose end door is a scribed outline with a centre scribed divider. Four hinges are really the only prominent feature of the door, bits of plasticard have been glued in place to represent the hinges. The door etch that had been previously applied looked nice, but it did not resemble the prototype doors...

The Illogic of Wiring...

Ring Road went up today so I can run in some of my new stock, and inexplicably, the wiring has 'swapped' again. Now this does seem completely impossible, but the only thing I can think of is that somewhere in the terminal block there is a short, which was fooling me into swapping the wires over, and now the short has been resolved, the wires are now in need of swapping back!   A short history:   4 power feeds from the 4 track controller head into a terminal block on board one. North British D6123 Figur'n out what's wrong with da Nose

I suppose I'm not very good at compromises.   The nose needed more work, obviously.   40 thou plasticard squares were added to the buffer faces to bring them closer to the front end face. Now the rounded lower corners of the face look right in regard to the two buffer beam faces. The hook and other gubbins in the middle recess will need to be brought forward, but that's a minor detail.   The buffers were actually spaced about 1.5mm too far apart, first time around. Too many DMUs, not enough layout...

Damn these N-Gauge manufacturers! I start getting interested in running long trains and a mainline layout, and suddenly the shops are filled with the best looking set of modern image DMUs I've ever seen!
