    Coastguard Creek - 15 months of planning!

    Hold on to your socks - this is going to be a lengthy one! (In fact it's so long, I've now split it into 2 separate posts - the next will be up soon...)   I think it's fair to say that you are all long overdue an update on Coastguard Creek. On this rainy October morning...

...I am still waiting for my package from the ?–BB Advertising Centre with the limited series class 1116 engine in the "Fire Brigades" special livery in it. But of course I cannot know how exactly they handle their shipments. My Subterranean Railway Room

Good news. Today was a deliberately slow day at work (I work from home) because I had my boy home due to a lack of cars to get him to school. Did he want to help me build my new railway empire under the house? No, of course not, he just did the Top Gear marathon and ate the kitchen clean. I have been working on a 14xx chassis which can be seen in the chassispro2 jig, which incidentally makes construction very straightforward the more interesting point is the hornblocks which I am working on hopefully you can see the ballraces, these really do make a difference and I will try and standardise on them in future. Track by the metre..

Just to put up a more recent post than the archive stuff i've been importing here is a sample of the plain lengths of track i've been working on for the re-laying:   There consist of 4 60ft panels each of 24 sleepers and are built from Exactoscale components. I only lay the one rail at home and the other will be laid at the club once its been curved to match the template and any gauge widening has been added in.   I'd previously done a length of 26ft panels that will go on the gauge widene

I've worked up a quick concept sketch for the proposed new layout (see entry below) to get a feel of the similarities/differences to Ring Road. Very heavily influenced by Coventry, my aim with this layout would be to keep the overall style and architectural/urban elements of Ring Road, but arrange them in a different way, with the layout in a slight cutting, roads going over the top, and the station adding operational interest. Prototype Revealed

Have done some more playing with the track plan. First I tried with medium radius points, but that needed almost 8 feet to get the platforms, station throat and fiddle yard in. I don't want to lose any of this - though I guess I could cope with a single track access to the fiddle yard, but it reduces the operational scope (the fiddle yard needs moving after every move, whereas I'd prefer to be able to do an out and in (at least) before fiddling. I Feel Fine (Scale)

After an unpleasant experience with a point motor (don't ask, I don't want to talk about it * :icon_mutter:) I thought I'd try some of this boundary pushing lark.   Following Graeme's revalation that current production N stock will run on 2mm Association Easitrac I felt that it had to be worth a play - so with a supply of concrete sleeper Easitrac sprues, some code 40 flat bottom rail, a supply of copperclad sleepers and a couple of 2mmFS track gauges it was time to play.
