The situation is reminiscent of the frozen pond a few years ago when police were told not to attempt to rescue someone because it was dangerous. I worked at a place where I was told by the manager that if the fire alarm sounded staff should not attempt to evacuate clients on the 2nd floor as they were behind 30 minute fire doors. I advised him that I would not be following his advice if the alarm sounded.

Off on my penultimate trip to our Waitrose today to visit the almost empty shelves and maybe pick up a pack of something nobody else in Teignmouth wants. The meat and cheese counters were closed yesterday. I expect the fish counter to be closed today. In 6 months the store should be resurrected into Lidl.

It might improve the game Worldwide if 2 captains picked their teams before a match including some from the crowd, someone like the Chelsea keeper Keppa threw a tantrum and took his ball home at 29-0 and Neymar would get beaten up after the match for diving.

Wet & windy here in sunny Teignmouth today. At present it doesn't appear to be getting anything like they had in Belgium 2 days ago. They had huge hail storms and high winds my wife was showing me photos of many trees brought down and the buildings and vehicles damaged. It looked like the 87 storm. Work has started in Dawlish on the raising of the sea wall. It is being raised by 2.5 metres and being reconfigured to a curved shape. Meanwhile discussion continues about the stretch of railway from Parsons tunnel to Teignmouth. They want to somehow move the railway further from the cliff and provide a better walkway and/or cycle path. I am not sure if avalanche covers above the track have been debated. Incidentally Parsons rock (iirc) contains a bricked up smugglers tunnel.

Once again commentators and pundits were talking pre-match about silverware. Just talk about the silverware once your captain has it raised in both hands.

I remember my early days on RMweb, there was someone posting great shots of model locos but was heavily criticised because he added smoke & steam effects. I personally could see nothing wrong and the photos were very good. Nowadays many are doing similar.

I find that happens sometimes if I move on or go back before the post has posted. Especially when using RM web on my tablet.

Watched the laying of roses in a Normandy cemetery yesterday on the BBC DDay75 prog. A young lad maybe 10 years old in combat clothing was helping the other volunteers. Every time, he sidestepped to the next gravestone, stepped forwards and placed a rose against it, stepped back saluted and repeated the procedure. It looked like he had taken it on himself to salute.

They go abroad, sit in the sun drinking beers that are stronger than the gnats p1ss at home and drink all day.

My deceased Belgian family friend David was buried yesterday. His Mother was said to be cross with him. I hope she was only cross because he had left his young daughter. Nobody will probably ever know what his turmoils were, but sadly he thought they were too much to even discuss with his slightly older brother. Thanks to all for kind comments.

Sorry to hear of your loss Jamie. Been hit last Saturday by the death (suicide) of the ex boyfriend of my wifes youngest daughter. He had visited us in the UK with Pat's daughter & grandson back in 2008 and soon after they split up. He was a barman in one of the bars we used in Pat's hometown in Belgium and we had many a good laugh together. He even called Pat his MiL. He was just 39 and separated with a young daughter. It's the 3rd surprising death we have been told of this year and has been quite hard to take.
