  1. I know I may be a little late with this advice but if you could find someone with an FDM 3d printer, windows are a doddle to make on them. I would offer but mine is out of action at the moment. Simon
  2. For some reason I can't seem to get rid of the above blank quote 🙄. Regarding SWAG I got there just after opening and didn't leave until closing time but would have gladly stayed another 5 hours. It was so good I would have come back for a second day if it was a two day show. Great selection of layouts (missing a certain Sheep Bloke's layout though). It was lovely to see all the people who I have 'gotten to know ' online and to see the layouts in the flesh. I had a long chat to some lovely people over refreshments and in the show. I think I managed not to run over anybody's toes in my wheelchair (it was only the 4th time out in it so I should have had L plates on really) and everybody was extremely helpful. I am eagerly looking forward to next year's SWAG and if I can extract a digit may even get a micro layout constructed for possible inclusion. Simon
  3. Glad to see that cake you've bought Stu has at least two red warnings😀.
  4. I usually found I had to do the floor plan at least three times before it would all fit in. Then I would get worried when it all fitted in with space to spare😲. See you Next Sunday.
  5. I remember an article a long time ago in a model magazine about someone who made cars out of solid blocks of clear material. He effectively carved the interiors as a reverse shape/hollow, ie there was no floor pan to the cars just the seats etc which he then painted. Would that save sufficient material/time to make HO/OO viable? Cars looking great, I assume that to get it more transparent you have to up the resolution?
  6. This might do what you want:- https://www.laserpecker.net/products/laserpecker-2-pro-engraving-machine-super-fast-handheld-laser-engraver-cutter-versatile-electric-rollerP
  7. Hi all, just saw this on Facebook, a possible source of new dye sublimation printing https://www.facebook.com/100063732632993/posts/pfbid0Tnkjus7Fwi5AF2Rr99fDnXmLToxHvYKNVtn3oFvkyykxttFCpB6gEGnMSXYktepol/?app=fbl
  8. I had a rental property inspection last year. Thankfully before I had Covid and ruptured my back. I borrowed a Van from work and loaded it with as much as I could. Oddly when I came to put back in the house I had to check the van several times as there seemed to be only two thirds as much stuff as before!?! I had left the van on the drive the whole time.
  9. And just as importantly it takes away the distractions from such a superb layout.
  10. Does anyone have details of the hotel with the fabulous breakfast? I may need at least one overnight stop to recover from all the excitement of the day, I will have my GTN spray with me for when the siren goes off so hopefully won't need CPR! And although I'm from Cornwall unfortunately I am gluten free so can't build my strength up with a pasty.
  11. I'm pretty sure the solebars are FDM printed, so no where near as detailed as a Resin print. But as you say they will be quite tough length wise, may split into layers if handled too roughly though (as I found out on some of my prints🙄).
  12. That is one for the looks like the real thing thread, amazing work.
  13. If you have a circular saw that you can adjust the depth of cut on, you can make your own "Bendy" plywood by cutting shallow (no more than half way through) cut where you want the side prices to bend. I would get all the straight boards done and up before starting on the curved ones so you can adjust as necessary.
  14. By Pastor Martin Niemöller "First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me"
  15. Great picture of Newquay, those wagons are quite something! The two lines, away from the camera, went over a wooden bridge and then onto a stone built stand alone section of quay. I have always fancied modelling that.
  16. I found the only way to completely eliminate twisting on a similar baseboard was to use diagonal pieces the same as your cross braces.
  17. The brickwork on the lower half of the right hand section near the ladder is appalling, looks like it could collapse at any moment.
  18. Having been brought up to play Rugby, when we played the girls at Hockey we actually won. Still had a nasty set of bruises though.
  19. I can't surf either (was a bit embarrassing when I worked as the designer on a surfing magazine). We called them "Roof rack Surfers" because the board never left the roof rack! Apparently according to them the surf was never quite right - too small, onshore wind etc.
  20. The resolution at which old photos are scanned is usually far too low. It is done to save time and file size of course. I never scan to JPEG, always to TIFF and usually at 600 LPI for large prints, and the maximum the scanner will handle for slides, (DPI refers to output of Dots per inch, visible in old newspapers which were often lower than 100 DPI).
  21. If you look at Marklin of Sweden on YouTube he shows how to make Hessian sacks with air drying clay and a nylon mesh. Starts at 15.22 https://youtu.be/8BICJS6-8TE
  22. Shwt will be at the RMweb SWAG show in Taunton soon, along with other inspirational layouts.
  23. I actually had two very helpful young lads from BT Openreach install my Fibre. They were polite and professional. They tested the signal and decided that the previous installation didn't come up to scratch so ripped it all out and started again. They even stayed and made sure all my devices were connected including my phone and printer. Apparently they are completely separate from all other departments of BT Openreach or BT retail.
