Andrew P
Looking excellent Steve, it's a very neat job, well done so far mate.
sb67
Thanks Rob, if I'm honest I think the texture is a bit coarse in 4mm, might look better with when I get some buildings and a bit of weathering done. luke the train spotter
You've got the colour spot on with that! Looks excellent.
sb67
Got my first building on there, it's a small hut I built some time ago and actually quite like it there. The concrete looks way too clean though! Steve.
sb67
I'm getting on with the concrete, slowly and I've come up with an idea of some industrial gates at the end of the layout. I'm finding the concrete hard work to get the hang of as I'm imagining how it would look, I really have to find a suitable prototype photo to work from. Steve. sb67
Done the basic scenic work and attatched a backscene. I'm going to have to re paint the wooden mooring things as I dont like the way they blend in, I think they are a bit too grey. I'm still messing around with concrete but hopefully now I can get on with thinking about buildings. Steve.

sb67
Looks great Steve. Really looks the part. Rob Thanks Rob, still a lot of tweeking to do such as the inlaid point levers and finding some suitable dock bits and pieces. With hiindsight I should have thought about a building to put at the front right of the layout but never mind. Steve.
sb67
It's amazing how a change of position and adding the backscene can make things look so different! Having put the layout on the shelf where it will live I think it all looks too blue! I'm going to have to re paint the backscene I think. Steve.
73c
Is/was it picking up any reflective light from somewhere to give a blue tint?
sb67
Is/was it picking up any reflective light from somewhere to give a blue tint? I dont think so, the only light was the flourescent one I use in the room and it still looks the same in daylight. I've got a test pot of something called Pearl Grey so I'll giv that a go. Steve. sb67
In the photo it doesn't look much different but I've painted the backscene with the Pearl Grey, it looks better in the flesh though. sb67
I been having a play with some buildings, I was going to go for a big warehouse view block like this. But after messing around with some bits I nthink it's way too big and something along the lines of these ideas would be better. I quite like the idea of a proper end to the layout and maybe the gates suggesting another yard elsewhere, rather than half a warehouse. I'd then need to fill the gap between the end of the siding and the wall. I'd like to know other peoples thoughts, thanks. Steve.
73c
Like the smaller building in the last photo. How about some wooden crossing gates to infer there's a road behind the wall and the tracks go off into another yard.
lmsforever
Why not apply a slightly dark wash a section of the backscene just to see how it looks?
sb67
Thanks guys, I was thinking of going with the 2nd photo with the gates suggesting something more elswhere and maybe a couple of office/storage buildings in the space to act as a view block and an excuse for a bit of clutter etc. I'll leave the backscene as I'm happy with the lighter colour although I would love to be able to paint something myself at some point. sb67
Thanks guys, got some stuff from Cornwall Model Boats to paint now but the boat I ordered was a bit too small! Have to keep looking for that. Steve.
sb67
Been adding a few details and finished the wall along one side of the layout, still a bit of cleaning up and weathering to do and I would like to put a buiding of some sort on the 'tarmac' to act as a bit of a view block along with some assorted dockside junk. RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted November 8, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 8, 2018 Hi Steve, nice bit of detail you have added, Ilike the the addition of the rope and fender/tyre. All the best Adrian.
sb67
Thanks Adrian. I've been having thoughts about the other end of the layout, not really sure how I can hide the 3 track exit and at the moment this is the best idea I can come up with. I'll try to make the walkway wider as suggested and maybe add some supports, It might help if I paint the fiddleyard as well. sb67
How about a couple of cranes Steve? Disgusting of Market Harborough Thanks Dave, that's got me thinking. I've got a small crane I was going to put by the quayside. Steve.
Bungus the Fogeyman
How about an Airfix/Dapol dockside crane or 2. Possibly with a big crate or something hanging off the jib. Just a thought mate! Will we see this one at Shenfield too? Disgusting of Market Harborough
