Noticable that it's chocked though, not usual practice with 91s, normally just the parking brake would be used

Not noticeable to my dim pies. Yes, that probably spells doom.

York Shuttle includes a Zoomer from tomorrow so that releases a few 91 workings.

In the linked pic you can see the yellow chocks under the two wheels of the no.1 bogie. Yeah, not a good sign

Probably the same one that does the first Anglo-Scots satsuma tomorrow.

I've heard, after doing 1E01 05.40 EDB - KGX, it does a York shuttle, before returning north to EDB with, I think, the 17.30

Oooooo er, I get to use The Flying Scotsman set so thanks for that info. I had an email invite from LNER today suggesting that they would award me, as a regular and loyal customer, an upgrade to First for just £39. Well as my tickets cost just £9.80 return and they will have finished serving fodder around Donny if not Retford and they won't get started serving fodder on the way back until we are well out of York, along with the Gluten Free option usually being crisps and fruit, I don't think I'll take them up on it, even if I might get a couple of cans of Cider, some crisps and a banana! Coach H cattle class is OK for me thanks and if my arse protests about the oh so comfy seats, I shall just walk up and down making a note of which seats don't have a window view.

Hmm, Lord Mayor of Newcastle???

Don't know how they had the nerve to turn up after the *#@#** they made of the traffic system for getting into / out of the station

I worked for BR when the 91s turned up without Mk4s, so needed an HST power car on the back to provide power to the Mk3 coaches. Originally, the HST power cars were not included in taking power, they could provide enough power to the train on tick over. Unfortunately, this led to a build up of unspent fuel in the exhaust manifolds which resulted in spectacular explosions when they were called into normal service.

The result was that were called upon to provide traction as well as supplying the MK3s. I happened to catch one such service at Leeds to go to Wakefield which used to take 15 minutes on an HST because of the gradient. The 91 + HST power car combo did it in 10 minutes.

I called into Kings Cross this morning,  no 91s or Azumas to be seen,  only HST sets at work,  staff told me of OHL problems near Doncaster. Oh dear!

Not a lot Cancelled on WTT though other than the early Leeds stuff but most services seem to have been late working both up and down until later in the day.

How did that loco combo work control wise?

There have been some very inspiring names on locomotives over the years. That isn’t one of them.

Speaking of names, here is a selection of named Class 91 locos at Newcastle, showing how the styles have changed over the years...

I believe the HSTs were adapted to take controls from the 91 (TDM?). Hence only a few power cars were ever used.

The modified power cars had an additional cubicle fitted in the van area. This cubicle translated the outputs from the power controller in to signals that were sent via the Time Division Multiplexing unit to the 91 and when the 91 was leading the same system was used the TDM converting the signals to usable for the power car. Beneath the controller on the power car was a potentiometer whose output was sensed by the TDM system and could tell how fast the controller was opened and ramped the power up on the 91 at the appropriate rate.

When the power car went to Cross Country the system was still active, and every now and again would do odd things like hold the traction motor contactors whilst braking which would see the traction ammeter show a slight current 100 a or so.....

Remember when some one sent a one of the power cars to Bath road for a F exam, it had them baffled for a while due to all the differences, even down to the brake test switch.

Anyone any word on the other two, 91120/32 that were reported as 'listed' to go off lease last month?

I believe they are still next to go off lease ASAP.
