Quite a cheerful afternoon yesterday with the Men in Red winning and the Men in White finally getting round to playing some rugby with the all important result of defeating team Napoleon. When the Men in Red face the same challenge I shall be getting out the Welsh cakes and Penderyn and cheering them on, even though the hoped-for result could lead to a tsunami from the Muddy Hollow.

Not a lot else of note happening at Hunt Towers.

Cheery-bye

You are so considerate. I was indeed imagining a line from the Isle of Dogs, with a branch to Catford via Houndsditch.

Was that the viaduct that there was all the fuss about demolishing a few years ago, probably to do with the reopening of the East London line.

A bit further down the line. the tunnel if it had been built would have been beneath the up platform ends of Bethnal Green mainline station. If it had been built as planned there would have been a triangular junction between Whitechapel, Shoreditch and the tunnel with the top junction actually in the tunnel beneath the viaduct. The viaduct that all the fuss was about was beneath the old Bishopsgate goods depot which was built on the site of the original ECR terminus. A lot of the viaduct still exists but cannot be seen as it was widened on one side in the 1860's and widened on the other side in the 1880's. Its still there but buried under the later viaducts.

A rather interesting and slightly worrying  development has occurred over the weekend.

Apparently I am now eligible for my vaccination due to an underlying medical condition.

Only problem is the underlying medical condition is so underlying that I don't know what it is ,  unless having a touch of rotundness counts.

But I haven't been weighed at the doctors for many years. In  fact it has been quite a while since I last saw one in this country.

It's a bit of a leap to assume that I haven't changed shape dramatically in the intervening years ( even if I haven't )

I don't overeat anyway. Just two or three cakes a day. That's normal isn't  it?

I suspect they have confused insulation with insulin.

Andy we've gone metric so your going to  need convert that 11 inches into centimetres I'm afraid. So you're going to have to take all of that imperial 11 inches of insulation and replace instead with certified metric insulation.

As I was unloading the dishwasher and restacking the clean crockery and replacing the cutlery in the draw, I did a subconscious count of various items.

24 Mugs and 8 kitchen knifes, which seems a terrific amount, especially when you consider we probably have another 24 mugs and cups in our 'best' dinner service.

I blame the dishwasher for the mug totals, not because they are breeding inside the dishwasher, but  because the dishwasher encourages you  to fill it up before using it.  This means you need more to fill it up before running it.  In the good old days, one would use a cup/mug and then wash it on an as required basis.  But now we need far more to satiate the dishwashers desire to clean things in bulk.

As far as the knifes are concerned there are differing family approaches, the first is  when the knife gets blunt, it get's thrown away because it won't cut any more.  The second is that the blunt knife is easily re-sharpened. There have been more than a few times that a kitchen knife has been cast aside as no good, only for it to reappear a few minutes later, back in the drawer and ready to ruin a carrot's whole day.

But returning to the mug saga, it is obvious that there are favourites.  Someone prefers the finer china type for teas, and the slightly heavier ones for coffee, whilst hot chocolate and exotic coffee go into a larger china mug.  I am a much less complex creature and prefer the heavy weight, plain and  chunky, un-patterned variety for all hot drinks.

I have been to some households where  mugs have particular owners, and woe betide the poor naïve fool who picks up the wrong mug.  A lecture on who's mug it is and it's use is restricted usually follows.

On RAF squadrons we each had our own mugs obtained from specialist manufacturers made with Squadron badges and our names on them. I've still got three of them, although the decoration has all but been washed away over the years, and they are definitely 'Mine'. Occasionally others may be allowed to drink from them but Jill would never think of using them without asking me first. Petty? Possibly but they still mean something to me and I'd hate for any of them to get broken. Funny how some things matter isn't it? It wouldn't bother me if one of our Wedgwood cups got broken but my mugs.....

As for Andy and his underlying medical condition, the answer is obvious - if he is about to have the vaccine, his details need to be updated for Bill Gates's database so a weigh-in is needed.

Have a good day people.

I don't have a dishwasher, I wait until the pile of dishes by the sink  gets to high or I run out of clean crocks. I did have four Hornsea mugs that I'd had since the early 80's but three of them have committed suicide (muggicide?) in the past year by leaping from the kitchen worktop to the floor. Replacements have been acquired and now no two mugs are the same.

Tess Coes oven ready chips in my case. The ones found alongside the cheesy baked spuds. They leave the skins on, delicious.

Mugs with names on is a very good idea, as it ensures the correct one gets rimmed.  For anyone not understanding, you're best off not knowing....

We had a certain "Chief Engineer" who did a stint out in the middle east with a team of engineers.  Unpopular with the guys doesn't even come remotely close (deservedly so); he used to boast that the guys would have a mug of tea waiting for him when he arrived in the morning.  He even had his own tea pot, and the guys would take turns to make it - a task they positively looked forward to....:wink_mini:

Ok,  297.4 mm then. I know this, I measured it on my accurate rule :jester:

Anyway my digital re mapping has been booked.  Just  a 10 mile drive each way.  Hopefully I'll come out with another 50bhp (beautifully hearty panettone). I could do with them  it appears.

He never asked where they got the water from to make his tea then?:diablo_mini:
