59205
What would be a suitable rake for the TOPS Br Blue 85? A rake of blue/grey mark 1's? Edited January 25, 2012 by 59205
andyman7
By TOPS BR Blue days, the Class 85s were more common on freight and parcels - they might do the Northampton 'cobblers' (mk1s) or sleepers but were rare on mainstream WCML workings. Freightliners or the North Wembley BOC tankers were very common workings from my childhood memories.
Thomas
A suitable rake of coaches for a tops numbered class 85. 85028 leaving Wigan North Western for Crewe, 26 April 1980.
Rivercider
What would be a suitable rake for the TOPS Br Blue 85? A rake of blue/grey mark 1's? Thanks Chris On one of my rare photo trips to the Midland Region I spent an hour and a half at Stafford on 20th June 1986. Here are 3 pictures I took, though I don't know if these are typical jobs. 85024 arrives at Stafford with the 10.15 Brighton - Manchester Picadilly, 20/6/86 85023 heads a southbound airbrake service through Stafford with a dead-in-tow 33007, 20/6/86. 85020 working an afternoon southbound service at Stafford, 20/6/86. cheers

ThaneofFife
Great photos of all 3 releases. If these dont spark a whole range of brand new electric locos then nothing will whether its from Bachmann or anybody else. The AL1 is probably just around the corner. 298
Great photos of all 3 releases. If these dont spark a whole range of brand new electric locos then nothing will whether its from Bachmann or anybody else. The AL1 is probably just around the corner. I have asked Bachmann that, and their response was they're waiting to see how the 85 sells. If there isn't a market then they won't be producing any more. Which probably means they'll be releasing the 81 in a couple of years time.
BernardTPM
Most of the Cl.81 chassis is there already. The bogies are going to be identical because the triangular bracket on the Cl.85 (square on the Cl.81) has, correctly, been done attached to the body and not moulded onto the bogie. Guest Max Stafford
Those wipers on the models look a bit clunky but when high quality aftermarket etches are available and taking the general excellence of the model into consideration, who the hell cares? Guest Phil
If by "mainstream WCML workings" you mean class one EUS-MAN or EUS-GLC then maybe yes, but they spent a lot of time at Piccadilly and Lime Street working "Cross country" trains to / from Brum as well as secondary stuff on the WCML. Sleepers, postals, parcels, newspapers, Mk1s Mk2s liners, tanks, general Speedlink stuff, vaccy china clay UCVs, presflos, HEAs and HAAs (I think) Nuneaton-Tring. A million uses for such a versatile AC loco - even the vaccy braked Manchester Pullman !!!
