Taking me back to the 1980s and the old Rover Car train days. A rake of VGA on a Burton to Cardiff Tidal, anyone know what they are carrying in the vans?

Not sure, but I watched this last Friday morning stop at the back of the Peugeot Garage and then reverse across all the lines into the Sidings opposite Nemisis Rail.

When I worked at the Peugeot Garage in 2005 a similar working used to come in, normally with 5 French Canvas Wagons, and do the same move across the lines.

Just after this move, a pair of 68's brought a Coach in for Nemisis and then split and top and tailed about 10 Blue Grey coaches. I didn't have time to see their departure.

I'm back at Peugeot about 0800 again this coming Friday.

Sorry if I am hogging this thread, is everyone else board of 66?

Still no idea what is in these VGAs travelling backwards and forward between Burton and Cardiff, only clue I have is the train is lighter travelling southbound?

Looking over the Bridge near Derby Turn, (a roundabout) there appears to be a lot of Black Steel Coil in the old Container Yard, so maybe it's that from Cardiff.

And on Friday I saw a large Flat Bed Lorry come out from the Industrial Estate loaded with the same Steel Coil.

Unfortunately, it's not an area with a clear view of the Yard or the area.

Unfortunately, having lost its path along the Calder Valley and now following behind* a Northern service from Leeds to Southport, GBRf 66754 'Northampton Saints' restarts from a signal check on the approach to Brighouse on 13th May with 6M36, 09.54 Milford West Sidings to Liverpool Biomass Terminal, empty Drax biomass hoppers.

There's a video of 6M36 here.

Lazy work by DBC, not even bothering to apply light weathering, obviously straight out of the box

Eccles Road

17 May 2019

66051, Maritime Intermodal Four, on 6Z59, 19:25, Briggs Sdgs Steetley Coy - Eccles Rd Johnston's Sdg (08:56) - loaded stone (16 MMA), out shopped 16052019, believed to be first "blue" working

I was somewhat taken aback by this arrival at the Maritime hub of Eccles Road !

I noticed from a TOPS list that it was in your part of the world and wondered if you’d get a chance to phot it.  Looks like the paint was barely dry!

A few from the area of the double tracking works on the Felixstowe Branch in the Trimley area yesterday afternoon...........

Too far away to see the number.....

The trackworks are very well advanced now, with most of the piles of spoil/track components that were between the footpath and the line having been removed and giving a clearer view for photos.

Note the very substantial bridlepath/footpath bridge over the line in the Gun Lane area which is visible in a couple of the photos. When opened, that should provide a useful location for future photography!

EDIT:  Whist obviously not a 66 photo, I found this Cravens DMU photo I took back in 1982 in the same general area as the first 3 of the 66 photos. The line is still on an embankment, but everything else has changed rather a lot!

  • 2 weeks later...

66 076. Heading West at Crow Nest Junc' Hindley. 30-5-'19. 2.00pm. On the Wilton- Knowlsey. I try and get here at least once a week to see any changes or to cop a 66, i've not been that lucky this last few weeks as this same loco' was also being used on this working last week as well. Anyone know why the rail crossover is kept so clean and looks to be newly painted almost weekly?

Heat dissipation - it helps in hot weather to stop failures caused by rails expanding, and Crows Nest is a key junction.

A TOPS list that I've seen this morning shows it was booked for 4M55, 09.02 Southampton Maritime to Lawley Street, where it arrived +40 minutes at 13.12.

There are a few departures from there in the schedule this afternoon, but this one has been activated, so it might work back to Southampton on 4O17, 15.48 off Lawley Street.  No guarantee of course.  Timings here
