I have 4 pin vices on the go when modelling, one with each of the 4 collets in them, does my head in never having the right collet in for the job in hand and swapping them every 5 minutes.

Mike.

I may have pin vice envy...................

Those are absolutely brilliant.  Thanks for the link.

I have been using my pin vice tonight, more of that later.

It has been a week of no running, to busy and knackered. Also when I have been in the train set room I have been modelling the LMS coaches which are more difficult than I expected.

Update

Train one

BSK D1905, Airfix model as built.

CK  D1969, Airfix model as built

CK D2117, corridor door windows cut out, frames for windows still to do.

SK D2170, cut to size from CK and assembled, porthole windows and corridor doors are done.

SK D1899, cut to size and assembled.

BSK D1968, cut and reassembled with loo by end door.

Train two

BSO D1946, parts cut from CK and BSK awaiting assembly

FK D2121, parts cut from CK, awaiting assembly

SO D1807, the new sides are marked out ready to cut.

SO D1904, parts cut from CK awaiting assembly.

BSO+SO twin D1965 chassis has been started, I have made two 60ft CK chassis into an articulated set. That is why I used the pin vice. Bodies not started.

Buffet D1948 collecting parts from other conversions to make it. The seating bays on this coach are even closer than on a SK or SO.

There is only one colour that diesel locomotives should be painted and that is BR green.

Proper steam locos should only be seen in Crimson Lake.

And pannier tanks in dark red with Routemaster bus transfers.

Ooh, cat among the pigeons time. That's almost like telling someone the correct way to make tea.

And on D9838, I thought 2x20=40. My maths must be wrong.

The Cotswold Rail 58 is great to see, as is Clive's D9838.

The way the actual 12'' = 1ft railway is going, who knows what may appear next. We've had a large logo blue 66, plus one in BR green from GBRf already. I seem to remember some months ago a 58 was in line for major overhaul and return, by DCR??, and of course there's a whole load more still on the Continent. Then there's all the 56's that seem indestructible, and a raft of 37's in all shades.....

There is only two ways to make tea, the correct way and the way everyone else ruins it. :good:

Hi Clive,

What about motor bikes ?

My latest contraption has been finished in Great Eastern Railway BLUE. I even had the correctly shaded gold lettering made for the tank:

Gibbo - I was wondering how the "Britten" was coming along.  It still looks the same engineering marvel as the bike it's based on.

(Readers of this forum less familiar with the Britten V1000, should search for John Britten on 'tinternet; he was a quite exceptional engineer who died tragically young).

Hi Northmoor,

It's a little further on than in the pictures as they were taken a while ago. Most of the work has been sanding and filling the plugs for the seat and tank moulds. I shall be starting the front of the fairing in a week or so once I'm happy with the tank plug.

* Bikes are fun and as such are not off topic !

I have some unfinished trains , and I am adding more.

The LMS train one less the two coaches as Airfix intended them.

004a.jpg.56db5ab6e6c6468fb71e24c485303a18.jpg

Post war CK with additional doors on the corridor side, I still have the drors to score, hinges etc to make and the droplight frames.

003a.jpg.cc8f1d59070a6b0b6e2ca50821e7d483.jpg

Porthole SK, corridor side, I used the doors left over from a non gangway conversion. I don't have a 9mm drill, the round windows are 9mm, so i drilled with an 8mm and then opened them out.

006a.jpg.727c2f6017b04881cd74e551c432790a.jpg

The same coach but the compartment side, these portholes were done using a pair of dividers .....a bit more tidying up to do.

002a.jpg.54ba9d984ce130430af5a9972fe32b52.jpg

007a.jpg.b00b6fa26f9a42d54f51c6549efce5fc.jpg

Both sides of a pre war SK.

I believe Hornby and Bachmann have done the SKs I am modeling, I am sure opening a box for a £50 coach is as much fun as making something from an £8 secondhand carriage.

005a.jpg.c927a8acfd8a418da1165e84908cfa66.jpg

Both sides of the BSK where the toilet is by the end door not halfway down the coach. Sorry about the phone camera deciding it would focus on the DMU in the background on both photos.

Now LMS train two, less the articulated pair.

008a.jpg.8ee14793e8c5cb2ff737d43262c1b207.jpg

The corridor side of the post war FK. This time I took the door windows from where I cut up a BSK for the period II SO.

015a.jpg.01ca22149512f6aab916619da104ebf9.jpg

The compartment side.

I chose a post war FK as the compartment sizes are the same as a CK. The pre-war FKs had more leg room and were only 5 and 1/2 compartments.

011a.jpg.974acf92cbaf0746c64855c49f0a654f.jpg

The period II SO, both sides are the same.

013a.jpg.67960816ed7999e6720e8723eb315a69.jpg

A period III SO, there were several body styles of SO, I have chosen the one that looks different to the SK. Replica did a LMS SO with 7 1/2 seating bays, another body style, and if I see one I am buying it.

014a.jpg.f7bbf56fc078d56c9bbdf9d5db3230d8.jpg

BSO, again the LMS done a few different BSO bodies, some with 5 1/2 seating bays, some with 6 like this one.

Forgot to say I had train one running earlier on, hauled by an Airfix tender drive 4F now isn't that appropriate.

I used to pass his place in Arkley regularly in my younger days.

Now the state of play with the articulated twin

016a.jpg.7a7d5a954f20c39ff382fb6ffca4291d.jpg

The BSO end cut awaiting assembly.

018a.jpg.cc0378a809137684284cb68c5a69983b.jpg

The SO also needs gluing together.

020a.jpg.3581eb0e6ca68168d330968a95b0b355.jpg

The chassis.

What is the first thing you should do when using a scaled drawing.....check it is the scale it says it is.  I have an old photo copy from the original Ian Allan LMS and LNER coaches book of this pair with some lovely dimensions on it. I had carefully measured the bits of coach as I was cutting , only for it to be too long. The drawing was under sized, using the same drawing but at the right size the two coaches are the right length. :ok:
