The first three photos this evening show the Kander viaduct on the BLS just south of Frutigen. The original is single track, when the line was doubled a modern viaduct was built alongside. The other two photos are at Leissigen, on the BLS line from Spiez to Interlaken. Agree, they were surplus to BR requirements on completion as the order had not been reduced to reflect changes in the level of sleeper services. Thanks for sharing, Dave When I visited in 1998, trains on the east bank were mainly freights with a few local passenger trains. I took the train from Boppard to Bingen then crossed to the east bank of the Rhine by ferry to Rudesheim. Apart from the trains, the highlight of the holiday was the 'Rhine in Flames' firework display on the river with a huge flotilla of boats travelling from towns and cities on the Rhine. Buchs is on the line between St Margarethen and Sargans is is also the junction for the line to Feldkirch and over the Arlberg in Austria. At Buchs both SBB and OBB engines are to be seen.
