The poor old Hymek in particular needs putting out of its misery quick and just what the hell is that silver half coach thing with the cardboard cab end?

Someone better get in touch with the RSPCM! *

I think the half coach/half biscuit package is a freeform attempt at a Budd Railcar. It too needs putting out of its misery.

Ever wished you could un-see something?

And here's another "optimistically priced" P.O.S.

Like a lot of copy and paste eBay addresses, most of it is surplus, and may well be linked to the posters computer....

;)

I made a subject access request to eBay a couple of years ago... They had a huge list logging every URL including search & item I have ever been clicked since signing up. Think eBay certainly are into the data mining/machine learning for product recommendations.

Plus side was that they hadn't come up with a digital way of replying to SARs back then so I got a free USB stick with the data on it.

I have one of those that has been repainted not particularly well, but is complete and comes with the original coach that also needs paint stripping.  If I got half that amount for the pair on eBay, I'd be happy.

Based on the Indian Pacific branding applied to the Hymek, I suspect it's an effort at something Australian, rather than the classic US Budd.

How I envy the soldering skills of the owner who did this (unless he had a specialist DCC installer do it)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203453416466?hash=item2f5ec4c412:g:7rEAAOSw0Fhgn-2v

An illustration of how slapping a DCC chip on a Hornby trainset 0-4-0 won't necessarily improve its running qualities.  R3678 isn't that "old", it was the Hornby Club freebie for 2018 so it should have slightly improved running qualities, such as a scale maximum speed of less than 100MPH!  Its probably had a miserable life as a hack loco for when the grandchildren came to play before gaining a prolapsed DCC chip!

£22 isn't too bad a price if you want an 0-4-0 for a project and that you get a working 6 pin socketed DCC chip that you could transfer to a more worthy loco.  At least the chip isn't hard-wired to the loco.  If I were DCCing a GWR Holden, I'd use a chip suitable for an N gauge loco and hard wire it, it might be able to be hidden inside...

Putting things in context, I recently bought a similar loco from Hattons for £10 for a project*, no DCC but it runs well.

* Mentioned here about 21/04. I still haven't found the glue to get started...

Is it a kit built or what? At that price it might be worth a punt.

Presumably K's. At the price, when I looked, it would be good fodder for anyone who enjoys rebuilding whitemetal kits, or who wants to learn to build one before trying anything expensive.

"Unsure of condition or whether it works."

So, what do we think? Working? Or not working? That is the question! :biggrin_mini2:

Horrendous photos, especially the second one!

It looks like a Ks kit, the body doesn't look too badly assembled.  2 weeks in neat dettol should get the paint off and, if glued, probably disassemble it too!  The chassis is more of a worry, I'd have liked to have seen a photo of the other side of the loco, perhaps a missing connecting rod?

I had a quick look at the vendors other items, there are a number of lucky dip Job Lots, relativly inexpensive starter prices but (unsurprisingly) no one has bitten at the moment...  A representative sample: Job Lot

Now THIS is a little cutie...

Andrew Barclay Fireless Loco It's nicely made and presented.

Definitely not an example of ebay madness at present but there are six days to go...

Checked the listing description ... "Bachmann models in their correct Replica Railways boxes"...

Colour me confused!

Surely Bachmann models would correctly be in Bachmann boxes, and Replica Railways models correctly in boxes marked the same?

I believe that Replica Railways contracted Kader Industries to produce models for them from Kader owned tooling originally made for Mainline (Palitoy).

Kader made the tools, and supplied models to Mainline, retaining ownership of the majority of the tools.

Kader is the parent company of Bachmann.

I have a few wagons in Replica Railways boxes, bought new from a reputable model shop. The underframes have "Bachmann" stamped into the plastic, because as Ruffnut Thorston says they were manufactured by Kader for Replica Railways. Why Kader didn't put Replica Railways who knows, but it is correct to say Bachmann models in their correct Replica boxes.

It's bit like EFE Rail now. Models originally commissioned by Kernow MRC but now being sold by EFE Rail (i.e. Bachmann) still have KERNOW stamped in the underframe.

He also has another scratch built loco for sale of an AEC diesel shunter which looks very tasty. Current prices £46 for the fireless and £35 for the unique AEC industrial diesel.

Well worth a punt - before Gostude buys them and relists them at 10x his purchase price, to languish in the Sargasso Sea of Overpriced eBay Items for all eternity!

What gets me is they must realise the photos are hideous but they post them anyway?

I think that it's possibly an "it'll do" or "take it or leave it" attitude based upon the low asking price, the sellers lack of interest in the item or the seller's low perceived value the item.
