RMweb Gold Popular Post Market65 Posted January 11 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 11 Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Mick, for the signalling diagram of Keyingham, and the fascinating photo’ of the flooding at Willerby, H&BRly, c1910. Now, we are having four photo’s this evening, courtesy of John Law, on Flickr. The first one is a view of 777, Sir Lamiel, at Beverley station in c1982, on a special train to Scarborough. Note the trackwork in the foreground. Next we have a photo’ of Botanic Gardens station, Hull, from prior to the Great War. I am sure Mick will be able to give more information about the photo’. The third photo’ shows class 37, 6782, in green, next to Scarborough station signalbox, in c1971. No information about the working of the train is given. Finally, here’s a photo’ of Seamer, in c1972, with an unidentified class 47, running light engine, up, to possibly York. Boris
Nerd question about Keyingham, so once the advance starter was abolished would they have to use the shunt into forward section bellcode to access 12 points and the dock road?
RMweb Gold Popular Post Market65 Posted January 12 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 12 Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four more photo’s courtesy of knoxrj, Neville Wellings, and loose_grip_99, all on Flickr. The first photo’ shows a five car DMU at Scarborough station, departing for Hull, on the 20th March, 1976. The second photo’ is at Pocklington, West Green crossing, with the box prominent, and two two car class 105’s departing for Hull, on Whit weekend, 1962. Next we have a photo’ of class G5, 1691, at Hull Paragon station, in the 1930’s. There is no other information. Finally, here’s a photo’ at Seamer West Junction, of preserved V2, 4771, on The Scarborough Spa Express, on the 27th July, 1986. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted January 13 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 13 Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four more photo’s, courtesy of Simon Beeston, Philip Wheldale, John Turner and 54A Photography, all on Flickr. The first photo’ shows K3 2-6-0, 61884, as it runs tender first at Brough, in about December, 1961. Next we have a photo’ of Ivatt Class 4mt, 2-6-0, 43076, on the curve from Walton Street, on the 22nd September, 1964, with what may well be a football special. The third photo’ is a view of 37219, at England Springs, Beverley, on train, 6C52, the 12.45 Seamer to Doncaster Decoy, on the 20th February, 2015. Finally, here’s a photo’ of another special train. This one is train, 2Z02, the 08.57, York to York, on the 14th May, 2014, with 37425, passing Ideal Standard, on the Bridlington branch. RMweb Gold Popular Post Market65 Posted January 14 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 14 Good evening, everyone. This evening, thanks to John Law, knoxrj, Philip Wheldale, all on Flickr, we have four more photo’s to enjoy. The first one is a view of H&BR, 0-6-0, number 37, on Springhead shed. This is undated. The second photo’ is at South Cave station, on the H&BR, with an unidentified 0-6-0, which appears to be number 118, if I have read the number on the bufferbeam correctly. Again, no date is given. Third, we have a photo’ of D49/3, 335, Bedfordshire, with oscillating cam operated Lentz poppet valves, rather than the rotary cam valves of the /2 Hunts. It is seen at the Bessingby bridge, Bridlington, on Sunday the 11th September, 1932. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 47623, departing Hull, on train, 1A24, the 15.15 Hull to Kings Cross, on the 18th June, 1989. micknich2003
No37 is indeed a 2-4-0, Class H1 an original 1885 Beyer Peacock engine of 1885 as later rebuilt by Mr Stirling. No118 is post 1907 when the class was introduced, but not much later then c1910 when the pattern of signal arm proment in the photo was replaced. 16
micknich2003
Boris, a similar stuation when I was signalman at Beverley Cherry Tree, trains were blocked on to Beverley North and then cancelled when shunted back, either through the X Over or in to the yard. After I moved on, the Special Instructions were alltered and Shunt into Forward Section was authorised.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Market65 Posted January 15 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 15 Good evening, everyone. Firstly, I have no idea how I got the caption wrong about the first photo’ yesterday. I can only apologise. Well, this evening, we have four photo’s to enjoy thanks to John Law, and Andy Hughes, on Flickr. The first photo’ is at Springhead shed, and is of two 0-6-0’s, 2444 x 2457. The date is not known but possibly the 1930’s. The second one is a view of O4, 6617, again on Springhead shed, in the 1930’s. Next here’s a photo’ of 0-6-2T, 9116, and you are quite right, it’s on Springhead shed again, this time in 1948. Finally, this is a photo’ of 37667 `Meldon Quarry Centenary’, standing at Cottingham, with it's loaded spoil train prior to working train, 8T60, to Doncaster, on the 18th March, 2001. Boris, thanks to a friend, I can now confirm Shunting in to Forward Section was not in the LNERly Block book. The regulation did appear in the BRly's "Standard" book which came into force 1 October 1960. 1

The regulation did appear in the BRly's "Standard" book which came into force 1 October 1960. 'Shunting Into Forward Section' was only allowed to be used where authorised in the Signal Box Special Instruction. The regulation was included in the LMS 1930s reissue of the Block Regulations but on the GWR it was only published on the Signal BoX Footnotes at those places where it was authorised. It does not appear in the SR Regulations which I have and that date from the inter-war period. As far as I can trace the first occasion on which it was published in the Block Regulations in respect of all Regions was in the 'standard' 1960 reissue. It is possible that it might have been included - in the GWR manner - by the other two companies only in Signal Box Special Instructions?
