RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 26 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 26 Good evening, everyone. This evening we have another four photo’s to enjoy. They are courtesy of Paul Kearley, knoxrj, and Matt Fisher, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of class J72, 69010, and Class 11, 12121, at Hull Alexandra Dock, in c1955. Next we have a photo’ of class J6, 3568, on what is thought to the former H&BR line near Hull. The third photo’ is a view of class J23, 2477, awaiting scrap at Springhead shed, in May, 1937. Finally, here’s a photo’ with the freezing fog breaking enough to allow a bit of weak sunshine through, illuminating the frozen trees nicely, with 37422 'Victorious' as it heads for Gilberdyke with train 3J51. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 27 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27 Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four photo’s to enjoy thanks to knoxrj, Paul Kearley and Simon Beeston, all on Flickr. The first one shows class J11, 5214, on the turntable at Hornsea, sometime in the 1930’s. Next we have a photo’ of Tennant, 1467, leaving Scarborough. Apologies for the quality of the photo’ but it’s of some historical interest. The third photo’ is a view of class J73, 68363, at Hull Springhead, on the 18th May, 1952. Finally, here is a photo’ of 31233 on train, 3Q01, the 13.22 from Derby R.T.C. to Neville Hill T&R.S.M.D on the 24th February, 2016. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 28 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28 Good evening, everyone. This evening it is time for another four photo’s to enjoy. They are courtesy of knoxrj, John Turner, and the KDH archive, all on Flickr. The first photo’ is a view of class B13, 738, on a freight train, at Hull Dairycoates, in c1932. Next we have a photo’ of world famous pressrved Gresley A3 4-6-2, 4472, "Flying Scotsman", at Dairycoates (50B) depot, Hull, on the 21st September, 1968. The "Pacific" worked the LCGB "East Riding Limited" rail tour from Kings Cross to Hull and back, and was turned and serviced at Dairycoates prior to working the return portion of the special. The third photo’ shows 37136 which is thought to have been a Tinsley loco at the time, which is reversing empty stock back into Bridlington on 14th June, 1975, to probably form a Bridlington to Sheffield service. Finally, here’s a photo’ of EWS class 37’s, 37676 & 37695, with the Hull to Doncaster 'Enterprise' freight at a bitterly cold Melton, East Yorkshire, on the 1st March, 2004. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 29 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 29 Good evening, everyone. This evening we have four more photo’s to enjoy. They are thanks to knoxrj, Paul Kearley, John Turner, and Andy Hughes, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of class R, later class D20, 725, near Scarborough, in late NER days. Next we have a photo’ of class N10, 69096, at Hull Dairycoates, on the 18th May, 1952. The third photo’ is a quite rare shot of Ruston & Hornsby Class LPSH 0-4-0DH (RH 513139/1967) "Herbert Turner" at APCM Melton Quarry - c.1971. The loco was new to APCM Barnstone Cement Works, Nottinghamshire and was originally named "The Herbert Turner" moving to Melton some time in 1970. By the date of this photo, "The" had been dropped from its name and indeed the nameplate looks rather crude (you can just see a hint of the original longer plate). Extra information from the caption on Flickr. Finally, here’s a photo’ of 56006, as it makes it's way out of Hull Hedon Road sidings in charge of train, 6D54, Hull Docks to Doncaster Belmont Yard, on the 17th January, 2003. Railpassion
Much work has been done on the line recently. 2 miles of new CWR North of Bridlington and the relaying of the entire station and resignalling. The service, since it became hourly, is better than ever and is well used at times. Comfort and cleanliness have never been better. I think there's potential to tighten journey times by raising speeds a little north of Bridlington to Bempton and between Filey and Seamer where trains dawdle at 50. Currently class 170s have to brake shortly after Sewerby, halfway through the 1 in 92 climb to stay within the 50 restriction. Just 4 minutes saved represents around a 10% improvement. Timing Scarborough trains to depart two minutes later would smooth things in the dynamic loop at Filey. The other problem is the long block section between Driffield and Beverley. An IBS signal on the UP would help when trains run up close due to delays. A later train from Scarborough (not 2113 but, say 2205) with a York connection would be an improvement. On the Scarborough - York line an hourly Northern service (promised, but not delivered) would be excellent and could be extended to Filey or Bridlington once or twice a day. 5

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 11 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 11 Good evening, everyone. Firstly, Mick, I don’t know what to say about that photo’, but on looking at another photo’ which I bought from the RCTS, the buildings in the background seem to be the same ones that are in that photo’. That plan indicates it is not Withernsea, so I am in a quandary about it. I will try and do more research this week, and see what might turn up. Well, this evening, we have four more photo’s to enjoy, thanks to John Turner, knoxrj, and Syd Young, all on Flickr. The first one is a view of Derby built (1960) 350hb 0-6-0DE D3944 as it shunts Shirebrook (Eastern Region) Cowans Sheldon & Co Ltd 30T Steam Breakdown Crane DE331160 with matchtruck DM770006 and Gresley support coach at Dairycoates (50B) MPD, Hull, in c1969. Nest we have a photo’ of class C7, 2212, at Scarborough, in July, 1939. Best regards, Rob. Regards to the above C7, info from the LNER Forum. In December 1933, No. 732 had Lentz rotary cam-operated valve gear fitted. In 1934, the Uniflow No. 2212 was rebuilt without the Uniflow arrangement. Needing new cylinders, the opportunity was taken to also fit the Lentz valve gear. The rebuild appears to have taken some time, and No. 2212 re-entered service in January 1936. The Lentz locomotives were fitted with 17in diameter cylinders of the same type as used on the D49/2 'Hunt' locomotives. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the Lentz C7s ran well with a crisp exhaust beat, but the overall improvement was not sufficient for more C7s to be converted. Both kept their Lentz gear until withdrawal. These two LentzLentz valve gear locomotives were classified as C7/2, whilst the classification of C7/1 was used for theoriginal C7s. 2

Because i cant recall seeing it before ? Quite a few in this batch from Derby had the two vertical handrails, some just had the vertical one on the drivers side bonnet door with a horizontal one on the opposite side door but two vertical ones on the radiator, most 350s had the lower handrail on the bonnet door horizontal. The radiator handrail was added after the removal of the ladder on quite a few of the 350s but not all. On a lot of photos it often hard to spot the ones on bonnet doors if not picked out in white. Al Taylor Edited March 12 by 45125 1
