A little more done, I am now onto details that were not in the kit, along with the last few that were.

I fitted the chimney as it was the last heavy brass casting. I need to do a little filling as there is a nasty mold line on one side.

Next up were the smokebox door dogs. these were again from Laurie, there were non in the kit or I had used them on another M7 build. I know I had used the chimney and backhead on it. The smoke box door is just place on, so I could get the dogs in the right place.

After studying the photos there are two tubes that run along the hanging iron. One is an electrical conduit with two junction boxes. The other I presume is either steam heat, or vacuum. The later will go on later as it hangs below.

But I did fit the conduit.

And finally with the dome and roof almost in the resting in almost the right positions. I feel it is now taking on the feel of a M7. will soon be time to test it on the frames again, and find the centre of balance so weight can be added to the right places. At the moment it is slightly behind the drivers.

Worth pointing out, that not all M7's had the smoke-box door dogs. Choose your loco number wisely ;)

The one I'm doing 30031 has them.

Ah, I hope you mean 30128, masquerading as 30031 - this is another of those frame "swaps" I mentioned before.

The original 30031 was a M7/1 (Short Frames), 30128 was a M7/4 (Long Frames, push-pull gear).

Official records state 30031 was fitted with push-pull gear and 30128 was scrapped. What actually happen is they overhauled 30128 and renumbered it 30031 - then scrapped the original 30031 as 30128!!

We are at that position where you need to look for things to do.

he front and rear lamp irons were finished.

The steps had been made up earlier, they now have been fitted, I even managed to find enough room to add some stays, as the brass is quite soft they needed some form of support. This brought an end to hot soldering on the body, (well hopefully).

Then onto the white metal castings. Most cleaned up without to much work. The right hand tank top is becoming very cluttered. he pipe work is meant to be a bit messy non of the pictures I have can you see it neatly done.

The other night I thought it was time to do the backhead. Well after two nights work I finished it. I have made my thoughts on how the throttle link would be. Please correct me if I am wrong. It is set for driving from the trailer, but with a driver stood in front  you would never see it anyway.

I thought that was it but found the balance weights on the bench, so went to fit them last night. The instructions are right about where they go. But just trying the driving wheel ones they cover  spokes not 6. need a little fitting to the rim, and  also stand a little to close to the hub. I have yet to look at the leading wheel ones. Will report back on these later.

Very nice details Peter, and number 30031 a nice choice .....

Thanks George. At the moment it will be 30031 but that may change. I been leaning towards 30051 both lined but the later with the early crest.

The wheel balance weights can differ between members of the class - not that I paid any real attention to it when renumber Hornby's superb OO Gauge version(s)

Yes I know from none to various sizes. Both the numbers I am up for have the same style which is good.

I been in the paint shop with the M7. The frames need the buffer planks painting and then the assembly can begin..

The body is still in primer as it needed a little filling before top coat. It is now ready I just need to find the time.

Thanks guys.

I have had a bit of mojo problems of late. I think it stems from a few awkward builds. The V3, S15 and the rebuilding of the dukedog were all tiresome, but this M7 although an old kit was quite a nice straight build.

What next? Well I need to check what I have here that and what is needed to start the builds. We are over for Christmas this year so might not start another loco until next year. But the builds for the future are a GWR saint, LMS long firebox Jubilee, LNER F1 all new and a MR 1P 0-4-4T to stripe and rebuild.

Might be able to stock up on parts if I can make it to Reading too. I also need to get an E2 to make Thomas for Pedro. I will also be bringing over to exchange for railway vouchers and a Finney7 M7 for meeeee, the Dukedog, S15, M7 and two or three wagons.

The M7 looks great Peter. One question, you've just completed the M7 and detailed it to a high standard beyond the original kit, but you're selling it and planning to buy a Finney7 one...is this because you think the Finney7 will be even better or do you just fancy one of their kits??

Well Chris it's like this. I was going to have this one. But not pull push fitted, this kit only makes the PP loco. I also think the Finney7 kit is better I built the 4mm one. you also get more options. I also want an O2 which will be PP fitted. which will I hope look good with my gate stock when it's finished.

I can recommend Jim's O2 kit. I enjoyed nearly finishing mine...

Yes I was probably going to go for that one. I had built the Meteor one which is now with Ace. A good kit for the money but what has William done to it. Would a T1 too be to many 0-4-4's?

Nope, go for it!

T1 is a great choice......might want to wait a bit to see if someone else brings a T1 to the market...... ;)

Now is that a hint from a certain source? I was thinking of using the old meteor one as a base, and adding better casting etc. It's not going to happen for a while. After my 0395 is done it will be the turn of an A12 or 700 class.
