David Todd
The pour from the red bucket is interesting as noticing the way it was shuttered just there previously I get the impression that the idea is to create something to give support to the shuttering for the pour of the raft. If that is the case then I hope pouring 600 tonnes of concrete won't push the existing wall into the sea! If you look, I have circled the end boards, for the pour, rectangle for the length of pour, the height of pour is determined by the end boards, so, they just seem to be covering the exposed rail support's. lmsforever
Work is progressing well and is certainly going to provide a long term solution , why is the area between the raft and wall being concreted is it just to provide a safe walking area?
David Todd
The assembly of the reinforcing goes on,nearing it's finish. I am hoping, that it will be completed, sometime Sunday afternoon. Now, how will they "pour" the concrete on this large expanse and depth, never seen this done before. jukebox
Here you go - you can just make out the "L" bars added to the top of this pile cap: (and well spotted alistairstubbs on the nipping off the tops of the pile steel!) That concrete on the seaward side has no reo, and isn't even being vibrated once placed using the red kibble (a brand new one, just for this job, by the look of that paintwork!) - so yes, I would assume is just a mass to pour the raft against in a few days. Prediction: they will bring in a concrete pump to deliver concrete for the raft, and have a fleet of trucks making it a continuous pour. They'll also be vibrating that concrete once it's placed, to remove any air voids that might impact its design strength.
David Todd
It looks like they are starting to trim the top of the Piles off in this picture Yes,well done Alistair. I normally post the Photographs with a basic summary. I may expand a little,if the subject is more of an unusual interest, but do not know the technicalities. I also throw in photos of the project, amongst other photos,to see if anyone actually notices and makes comment, Alistair actually spotted that one. David Todd
The pix in your # twentytwo eleven above look a bit off your patch. That last exciting one is where? dh Mornin dh, Keeping well ? Poking your head above parapet,on your (New)castle today. I did note the other week that Newcastle United, does not have, any local Geordie names in its team, come to that, it was hard to spot an English name. As to your Q, possibly USA, I did not visit the page to view it, sorry. If you google concrete boom truck accident s, you will find pages of unfortunate images, from around the world.
David Todd
Today,I hope to be up at the site, tween 10/11, if I get my act together, I was going to go around 1500/1600. But, not to get caught in any heavy downpours, forecast later today, when the cloud has bubbled up. Tomorrow, we are going to the Chatham model railway exhibition. Ray,will drop me off at the subway to Shakey cliff path, probably around 1700. Will have a quick scan,to see what has been delivered/prepared for Monday. I doubt that the pour will start on Sunday. Minimal photos on this visit. It will be interesting to see, what has happened to the small pour of yesterday. I am surprised there was no reinforcing set along this patch, against the Seawall . Maybe it will be formed once the concrete has set ? Looking at the project diagram, sectional concrete, concave L shaped pieces are to be placed all along the 4 rafts and are/will be part of the rafts, concave, because,it should throw back any seawater that may reach this height, also, with a concrete walkway, behind the wall.

David Todd
Ah, but remember they have that Sports Direct paunchy cuddly Mike Ashley as owner That's surely English enough for the Toon's current Championship league status. dh He did not farewell in front of a select committee , still on the bench man ! Hmm ! At least, Alan Shearer still lives in the predidjuse Ponti land, and gives a lot of his time to local communes. I also noted on a clip in a tv programme,a visit to the Toon, by the Urban Birder. Shewing Fulmars Kittiewakes nesting on the Baltic Exchange Flour building, Gatesheads answer to the Tate Modern. Newcastle was depicted as "The Retail and Cultural Center of the North". A far cry from when I delivered newspapers, before and after school , a few years ago,to houses by the shipyards, on the north bank of the Tyne, (Wallsend). Presumably, the Two Tribes, of Mackums and Tackums, are in decline or displaced or even don't exist. Am happy now,my father refuse to sign me up for apprenticeship "In the Yards". RMweb Premium Tim Dubya Posted June 11, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 11, 2016 Thanks for continuing to take the pictures David. Just wondering if the concrete along the seawall is to to shore it up temporarily and to hold up the shuttering for the rafts (hence lack of re-bar, so it can be removed easily when the time comes)?
