This one brought back a cascade of memories. Memories of back in the day, when the LC was still in place, when we used to cycle up to Hurn Road in the school holidays (occasionally Waterworks Lane), as a variation on Walton crossing or Spital Bridge; standing on the old GNR footbridge, looking down, as a Deltic accelerated away on the down fast, trying to position ourselves between the V of the exhausts; watching the crossing keeper attending to the gates, as the occasional road vehicle trundled down; the occasional pedestrian (rare) ambling along. Thanks to all who have been following this project for us, for the past couple of years. It's been fantastic to follow - especially for those of us Peterborians who are no longer in the area and only visit, periodically, to see friends and family - and, consequently, rarely have the time to seek out old haunts. It has been much appreciated. 5
Donington Road
Morgan Sindall; Spoil Shifters Extraordinaire This was the view from Cock Lane yesterday afternoon. The dozer on the right was pushing soil towards the main site. 24 hours later we now have a large mound of earth in the same place. The dozer has not done that all by itself surely? Nope, the yellow excavator is loading the two dump trucks up and they are taking it the great distance of......................50 yards away, unbelievable! Someone obviously knows what they are doing, but it sure is a puzzle. That's it for the day, maybe we will make another pile near the entrance gate tomorrow. Spare a thought for the gentleman manning the entrance. He still has his comfy office chair to sit on but someone has pinched his office....................... ..............but they were good enough to leave his heater and a couple of visitors chairs behind so he should survive the winter. 3
RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted October 29, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 29, 2021 If you have shares in companies making metal fencing sell them now as once this job is finished the market will halve! Seriously, I can't believe that all that fencing is necessary, even allowing for the idiots that we now seem to breed. And I have been wondering for some time why so much soil has to be moved short distances around the site so frequently. Jonathan

Donington Road
More green fencing going up at Hurn Road separating the retention pond (the green grassy area behind) from the field. Landscaping of the area to the left of the roller yesterday and today the area to the right has been hardcored and rolled. This is on the embankment between the Joint Line and the new lines and just before the northern entrance to the dive under tunnel. What's this chap up to in the field west of the Stamford Lines at Hurn Road? Testing a new jetpack? Nope, he's spraying the weeds. I think it's going to take a long time to do the whole field. 3

However a dive under in saturated ground, probably not. They would probably have built a flyover and yes that could have been done. The bridge would have needed to be similar to the one at Little Bytham that carried the M & GN. Jamie 3
