You don't give out that sort of information to random callers, who might well be the tabloid press, antagonistic politicians or others. Real enquiries are sent, in writing, to the press office to pass on to the appropriate department. It's unlikely to be secret, but will be in a report somewhere.

Or you could initiate a Freedom of Information request.

Today, on average 59% of people living in Northern Ireland who are sent the bowel cancer screening test complete it, but this drops to 57% in Scotland, 56% in England and 54% in Wales. Of those returning the test, one in 50 has a problem which needs further investigation, including hidden bleeding from a polyp, internal piles or another condition. Of those called for a colonoscopy as a result of the initial test, one in 10 will have a cancer.

I'v to e had return a second two sample recently as the first showed signs of something wrong. . As did the second.

Had bother with the colonoscopy so had to  be aborted.

Back a week later for C.T. scan which I also found to be uncomfortable, but four days later I got a 'phone call to say I was all clear.

'twas a little worrying but better to be checked out.

Gosh, stand by for a knock on the door. We're not supposed to know that ...

Just in case like me the bowel test isnt applicable there are details on how to contact them to stop sending the test. I did this and they do stop.

I am not being foolish, the test would come back positive and I am already and have been for years. A positive test indicate various conditions not all of which are cancerous. Whatever the cause early treatment is beneficial.

Had my first real downer since the diagnosis.

I've had a cold most of last week and it's

pulled me down, don't seem to have much energy.

That in turn seems to have dragged me down

mentally and emotionally; there's so much

I want to be doing, but don't feel like doing

anything which is dragging me down even more.

I guess it could be the events of the last

few weeks catching up with me;there's been

so much going on now I'm sat around waiting

for results and have more time to think.

Hoping for a better day tomorrow.

When a new day dawns it is always good no matter how much pain or discomfort we may be enduring.

Look forward to a new dawn.

How right you are, the new day has dawned,

the problems of yesterday are behind us.

Had a call from the hospital today.

The mark on the liver is nothing to worry about,

it's something like a birthmark.

They're not sure about the one in the lung.

I've got to have another scan in 3 months.

So it's back to removing half the colon,

should have a date for the op within the week.

So the future may not be Orange,

but it's a bit brighter than it was last week

Well at least that's some good news Brian, keep smiling and taking the tablets.

All the very best.

Well it looks like I've qualified to join this thread.

I've been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

It all came about from the two yearly screening,

which those of you over 60 will be familiar with.

Something showed up, so had to go through

the pleasure of a colonoscopy.

That showed up a tumour between the terminus at

the appendix and the junction at the small intestine.

S*it! Pun intended. Brian, I'm so sorry to read this and sorry that I'm reading it late, too.

You may know that I had appendiceal cancer (bowel in all but name) diagnosed in August 2015 via a colonoscopy (the poo test didn't work for me and apparently misses 50% - but the good news is that it catches 50%!) and was operated on in the first week of September 2015. They removed all of the affected area and part of the colon. I underwent 6 months or 8 doses of chemo following the op. Anything you want to ask please PM.

Thinking of you

And this from today's Guardian about a CAR-T test that the NHS is planning to take-up, where T-cells from your blood are personalised and reintroduced for them to attack cancers and cancer cells.

https://www.theguardian.com/science/2018/apr/26/nhs-car-t-game-changing-cancer-treatment-immune-therapy

Expensive just now but good news. The cost should decrease over time.

Well I've got a date for the op, 25th May

(subject to bed availability which apparently

isn't confirmed until just before you go to theatre).

Its not as soon as I was first led to believe

it would be, but at least its a date.

Hi Guys,

I passed on the recent comments relating to Jock to Joanne, Jock's wife - cannot believe that two years have passed - and she has responded saying that she is filled with thanks and pride that his many friends on the RM web have remembered how kind and helpful he was.

Joanne is about to start volunteering with MacMillan at their hospice in Clacton.  She says they have been very supportive to her over the last two years and feels that she is now in a position to give something back.

Cheers, Peter

Great to hear you have a date - I believe that they're very careful not to cancel cancer patients' operations on the day unless there's an extreme emergency.

As Jamie says, We'll be thinking of you.

Hi all, just had some pretty good news from my mid treatment ct scan showing " significant reduction, around 50% in size" of the splattering of tumours in my lungs .

3 or possibly 4 more doses of chemo will hopefully continue the same trend.

The tiredness and loss of concentration i can deal with but the mouth ulcers are a right pain in the ar err mouth.

It's a good job i like soup.

But if thats as bad as the side effects go lets get on with it.
