Great work Grahame.  Would love to see the results in due course.

Regards,

John.

When I get round to it I shall post the photo on your thread John.

You can use the settings along the top to set it into oldest or newest first order. You can also use the "condensed" view so just the notification shows and not the content.

My default view when I arrive in RMWeb now looks like this:Image14.jpg.18167309aef1cc9e61999896bea2209a.jpg

You can see the settings I've used in the options boxes along the top.

I've turned off all notifications as well, saves cluttering up my e-mail inbox.

I think this arrangement is now better than the old one, although I must confess that going into RMWeb from this direction stops me seeing the site as a whole and I now live in my own little echo chamber part of it. I have to consciously venture out to the main forum area to see what else is going on.

Martin, that's in the Activity Streams area, not Manage Followed Content. If we could sort the Manage Followed Content list with newest at the top that would be a good step as far as I'm concerned.

Tried the next picture which is 3.68mb and was informed by a message box that I had exceed the 10mb, so is this a daily total?

I will now log out and come back in again to see what happens!

Hello Kevin et al.

Here is the best way of getting the 'followed topics' quick button. Going via 'Manage followed content' is not a good way of doing it, that's the editing tool, a bit like trying to get into your car by opening the bonnet.

Note: you only have to do this once, after this it's 1 click to get to the list of topics you want.

Step 1 - go to 'Activity>My Activity Streams>Content I follow' as shown below. Click 'Content I Follow'

Step 2 - At the top of the next page are all the options. Select 'Condensed' (highlighted in screenshot) to show topic titles in the list instead of every individual post

Step 3 - Under the 'Content' option (highlighted) select 'Topics' as shown

Note: This excludes blogs etc. You don't have to do this step.

Step 4 - The option to 'Save as new stream' appears. Click on it

Step 5 - Name it 'Followed Topics' and click 'Create Stream'

Step 6 - Click the little tick next to the new stream name (highlighted as 'Set as your default stream')

Step 7 - It now appears under your name at the top right hand corner of the site and you can just click it at any time to go back to the list

I hope this is useful!

What have you used for the GWR wire fence Kevin? And can I pinch the idea for Oak Road? I need a bit to run down to the station fence in the car park!

I've been searching the early pages of this excellent thread but I can't see what/how you used to make the steps on the quayside. Any help with materials used.

Just ordinary thick grey card and painted with acrylics..

Leading edges filed to give a worn look.

About 3mm thick and would foamboard work as well.

‘The 10MB limit is per post I understand. Rather than resizing images, change the JPG compression setting in your Save As dialogue box of the photo editing software. This is a value between 1 (awful) and 12 (best). Setting around 6 or 7 should give no change to the image quality but will give around a 1MB file size.

3mm would be 9” which is what these are. I wouldn’t use foam board as it is not solid and couldn’t be filed to give a worn step. The foam would show thro’ especially when looking at the riser where you would see a layer of card then foam! Thick card is even better than plastic as you can work it better

I guess one could double up in 7mm scale,  6mm would be about 10 inches so quite believable for stone steps.

I did make some coping stones for the back wall of the  GWR (see link in my signature) which I made from DAS, using a brass mould.  I worked out how to get them out of the mould whilst still soft, so I could make a dozen or two, and leave them to dry on a piece of plastic.  Once dry, I painted them the sort of dark brown that sandstone goes when exposed to pollution, but granite or whatever for steps would be just fine.  The advantage of making a mould is that they can all be made to suit the job.

best

Simon
