Thanks Roundhouse - I agree that it looks different from the one at Bognor. Unless it's a trick of the light, the Bognor one seems to have the dark green going right down to the solebar, plus a GWR-style turquoise waist stripe.

Nice photos!

The one in the background of the Bognor picture is definitely a 4-CIG in the Southern/South Central green colour.  The thin light stripe below the windows I think is a reflection or shadow either from the shiny new 377 or the platform canopy.

Here is a CIG in the green:

And for completeness the solitary VEP in the same colours:

Would be very interested in how you plan to do the Bullied EPB's. These units were one of the ones that me and Mr Farmer both had high up on our wish list.

I haven't given it a great deal of thought but would probably consider WWW etches as a starting point.

Headcode 53 suggests a Gillingham via Lewisham and Sidcup service, waiting to depart London's Cannon Street terminus with 2-EPB (Class 416/2) no.5738 leading - sometime in the summer of 1977.

A pretty drab and deserted looking Manchester Victoria in November 1983 with a two-car Manchester-Bury unit awaiting departure. (Need to click on this one to get the whole effect.)

A few more of my photos, some being a bit grainy as they are older scans of the originals.

Water shortages late 1980s. Several sets of stock were loco hauled over the Marshes to St. Leonards to be put through the washer. To be honest, without 'hand bashing' first it was a bit of a waste of time.

'I wandered lonely as a 2EPB'. On Saturdays in the late 1980s Several EPBs worked down to Hastings on Mail Workings. On this occasion one ended up at St. Leonards.

I take it that there's a good story behind the 'roo with the HV vest on the sign,in the last picture.

Edit for predictive text again.

Even after all these years naming names is probably best left out. However, his exploits were legion as they say. Having some Aussie origins, and a predilection for sorting the trains into colour and number order, that is until the Shunt Drivers found out the reason why they seemed to be a busier when he was on. His boundless energy was somewhat dampened afterwards! The C & W Examiners would wait until he had finished marshalling the shed for the night, and seeing him looking out the window would pretend to stick Repair labels on the stepboards of the units. Always guaranteed to send him leaping (kangeroo bounding) down the shed to see what was happening.

I thought there might be an amusing story, there usually is. There were certainly plenty in the 'yard.

When things didn't go to plan. An 8car 377 had become stranded in the cold weather and had to be rescued by a 73 with a GLV De-Icing Vehicle

Doesn't this photo say so much ..................................

and look at the depth of that snow ................... seen EPB's keep running in snow feet deep with traction motors packed solid with ice
