A few 313s along the Coastway west last Monday - 25th July.

My turn to find 313201, this time at Chichester on an eastbound Brighton service.

A little further east 313214 arrives at Barnham with a Bognor service.

Ahem.  The last time I checked Barnham was east of Chichester 😉

The Night Shift...

The 05:08 empties from Bognor Regis to Barnham which, after a lot of scratching of heads, phone calls and a 4 am taxi ride later, was found to be actually parked in Littlehampton instead...

Had a bit of fun with the display too... 😆

Last train of the night

And it actually ran!  Not by any means a “given” as things are. Far too many cancellations - often of late evening services - due to the ongoing crew shortage.

A couple of shots of class 377s crossing the Arun river bridge just south of Pulborough earlier today.

An unidentified example heads a Bognor service away from its station stop.

377111 (identified by its unique livery modification) leads two class mates on a northbound service.

The shape of things to come in the dim and distant future? If so, it will be pretty much full circle for these units with Southern.

Middle to late next year apparently.  The SWR 701's at the top of the stock cascade tree are the sticking point still although I did see a photo of one actually moving under its own power yesterday...

The fare evaders will be happy to have the toilet back to hide in again...

They manage that most days.  Still only on test trips though.  701049 is the latest to appear at Waterloo meaning only 11 more of the 10-car units are outstanding (and 701050 is reported to have arrived at Eastleigh) with most of the 5-car ones yet to be built.

No official word on possible entry into service at SWR but "middle to late next year" is possible if they can be made to work reliably.

Southern should be able to spare most of the 377/3s if they thought about it.  Reduce the 10-car formations around suburbia to 7-car and almost every trip will still have two or three seats per passenger - often even more.  The 5-car units don't normally work with anything else but a subtle change from 10-car to 9-car trains (5+4) would free up a few more units and an internal cascade then releases the rest of the 377/3s to the coast.

Such things seem to be too hard.
