Nearly ready for Amiens 1918's final outing for 2018 tomorrow at the West Camel Model railway Society's Annual Model Railway Exhibition!

It certainly has been a busy year with the layout (think this is it's 15th show!). Really can't believe how well the layout has been excepted.

See you tomorrow from 10am - 3pm! :)

A video of the final running session on our Blackadder Themed - Great Model Railway Challenge Layout - "Go Forth".

Featuring a wide variety of Period WW1 Rolling Stock, as featured on the show, plus a number of new additions, including my recently completed WW1 Armored Train, we give "Go Forth" a fitting send-off before it's sold onto a new home.

Hope you enjoy!

Nice video Callum, the armoured train is certainly impressive.

Thanks ever so much Steve! Just got to build a suitable layout for it now :P

Well, one year on from its first show at Weston-Super-Mare and 18 shows shows later, Amiens 1918 celebrates it's 1st Anniversary back at Weston, by winning best in show! :D

What a years it's been! Been amazing to see how well the layout has been received over the past 12 months. I honestly never thought it, when I started building it back in 2017.

Many thanks indeed! :)

The first installment of a little series of videos, in which we take a closer look at a number of WW1 - Railway Operating Division (ROD) Re-Numbering projects. In this video we take a look at the wonderful Hornby J15 (Y14) 0-6-0 & Bachmann E4 0-6-2T, which have been backdated into ROD Black. Y14 ROD 911 was operated by the Australians around Etaples and Noyelles. While E4 ROD 562 saw service moving troops and supplies from the coast. Both models will hopefully received DCC Sound at a later date, before being put to us hauling a mixture of WW1 rolling stock.

Hope you enjoy!

With the recent snow out, I finally got around to starting my Mosskito Models Simplex Kit (a year after its arrival).
After an afternoons work, the body was ready for priming. Very pleased with how it's turned out so far, consider considering it's my first 009 Scale/ White Metal Kit! More progress to follow soon.

Looks great Callum, looking forward to seeing it painted, hope it will feature in a video.

Steve.

Thanks Steve! Glad you like the progress. Sadly not been filming this one, as its nice every once in a while to put the camera down and just enjoy the build. However, I'll be certain to put together a little slideshow showing the build and of course a running session when complete :)

During a brief sunny spell, I managed to get around to priming the bodywork. Theres a few imperfections that need sorting, but not much.
Task of today was to fit the motor/chassis block. For this I used the TomyTec HM-01, all the from Japan! I fitted the body by cutting the little kids body-shell provided with the chassis in half. It fits rather snuggly inside the Simplex Body.
Next step is to test run the model (I hear these chassis can be pocket-rockets), but will have to see.

A look at eagerly anticipated 00 Gauge BL 13.5 inch Howitzer Railgun "Gladiator" from Oxford Rail.
Oxford Rail have done a superb job in capturing the overall look of these Behemoths. The model throughout features a high level of detail, including extensively detailed undercarriage, barrel, and breech, heavy die-cast construction, as well as wealth of separately fitted parts, such as pipe work and chains.
Despite it size, "Gladiator" has no trouble in negotiating 2nd radius curves and pointwork.
Paired up with my Railway Operating Division (ROD) Oxford Rail 'Dean Goods', we see "Gladiator" being hauled into position, ready for action, before being returned to the yard.
Oxford Rail really have outdone themselves, and should be highly commended for taking on such an unique and interesting prototype. This model is not only a very welcome addition for many WW1 and WW2 railway models, but military modellers too! And at under £45, it really is excellent valve for money!
Highly recommend!
Hope you enjoy!

Mine runs smoothly too.

Here's how I fixed mine, I found the chassis allowed the body to "wobble" at first.

Many thanks! Really was surprised by the quality of the motor. Just getting around to painting the body now

More progress on the 009 Simplex.
Had a hour spare, so finally got around to painting the livery. Like with my other WW1 vehicles it was a hard choice on what paint to go for. In the end, after looking at a number of pictures, I send for Taymia Olive Drab, which suits it rather well. Next step is to added the plates, before giving a good weathering

Indeed, read that in a few books and at the Tank Museum in Bovington, as it was the same with the tanks and other vehicles. Lots of historians have found it really hard to find what is the closest colour, this is most noticeable in the ww1 display at Bovington, with each vehicle being a slightly different colour

For those interested I've started a topic on my 00 Gauge Railway Operating Division (ROD) Fleet, which I'm currently building up.

These go hand in hand with Amiens, and have all ready giving me a few ideas for a possible future WW1 layout, which will feature both gauges :)

I helped to restore this loco. p1010878s.jpg

It was stripped right down to the frames. The paint that is on it now was matched to samples on parts that had probably never been taken apart since it was built and on parts that were very difficult to get to and you would never repaint during a subsequent repaint.

Many thanks indeed! Glad to see the colour I went for is not far off what was carried. Just finished weathering it, so will share some pictures of the progress soon :)
