Big day tomorrow as I move into my own workshop, in a shared artist/business building in Truro.

Whilst it's not the largest of spaces, I'll have room for three work areas (modelling, painting, computing), lots of shelving for materials and a space for at least one 9ft layout.

Would love to see anyone who is passing by and wants to pop in.

Excellent news Stu, I may be able to pop in last week of August when I’m down at Porthcothan.

Keep us posted on your space and what you’re doing with it.

Cheers

Ade

The workshop is now more or less sorted.  I do need a few more battens for the main lower shelf, and some smaller shelves for the end of the main rack.

I have three distinct work areas and plenty of storage space, plus room on the top of the frames for at least 2 layouts.

The main shelving

Newham baseboards. There is at least 2ft beyond this layout, and space behind to store a similar sized layout.

Looking good, Stu.

If I may make a suggestion.  In my experience, those bookshelves bow after a while if they are carrying anything other than paperback books.  If you were to add three vertical braces now whilst the shelves are flat they would stay that way.  A simple length of "furniture panel" cut into three tightly fitting lengths would do the trick.  It could even be a slightly shallower depth and white if you can't find a matching grey, as the braces would blend in amongst the books, especially since you are looking down onto the unit.

Thanks Rob. Point duly noted and welcomed.

The bookshelves were left by the previous tenant and TBH are not the most robust anyway. I have some small corner blocks to enable me to remove the shelves and re-position both higher, so I can actually get some books to stand up on the lowest shelf.  Above I only intend to put small models (from my pre-built stuff at home, and new stuff I make here) on the other shelves, there shouldn't be that much weight.

Should my library ever extend beyond the one shelf then, yes, additional bracing will be required.

That's really special Stu. Very nice colours and a neat build, but it's the different shapes and levels that really caught my attention. Will there be water?

Thanks Mikkel.

There may be water, I'm musing over whether to model the scene derelict, or in use but dry.

The whole layout will be various levels, including a raised track bed with both cuttings and bridges, and roads and footpaths going up and down between the buildings.

I'm no expert in watermills, but what would have been the purpose of having stairs down to the race?

In case someone fell in... :)

I dunno, just looked fun to do.
